Dead Or Alive Slot Review
I've always found “wanted dead or alive” quite funny. I mean it's basically saying, bring the criminal in and you'll be rewarded, but please feel free to save taxpayers some money and kill them. It's a little nudge in case any bounty hunter has a moral center: Like a devil on your shoulder “It's OK– just do it!” I wonder if anyone ever drew up a false wanted poster? I mean pick an enemy and let someone be duped into doing your dirty work. Such fun times it was out in the Wild West! Daily murder, mayhem and lawlessness and we have romanticised it non stop ever since!
Still, I think some of the rules of the time could be applied at my workplace: I'd walk up to that officious Craig in accounting and say “ This office ain't big enough for the both of us.” We'd have a showdown in the cafeteria man to man. My lightning fast slot machine reflexes would secure me victory! No guns – I'm thinking maybe hand slapping…
Anyway "Dead or Alive" is why I'm rambling on about cowboy antics. It's a video slot designed by NetEnt to shoot its way onto your P.C, tablet or mobile device. I thought I wasn't that immersed in the atmosphere of this slot until somebody walked past my desk and asked why my face was snarling so much. So, I must have been embracing my inner cowboy without even knowing it.(that came across a bit too “Brokeback Mountain” - maybe channelling is a better word than embracing?)
Dead or Alive is a 5 reel and 9 payline slot. This means it's got a pretty high level of volatility and if you're patient, you might score some big wins. The standard symbols: sheriff's badge, gun holster boots, cowboy hat, whiskey glass and 10-A card symbols. There's a wild which is a wanted poster with a profile outline, while there are also sticky wilds, which are more detailed wanted posters. All these wilds can replace any symbol except the scatter, which is a two gun symbol. The controls are nicely embedded in a wooden frame along the bottom: Info, Coin Value, Level, Autoplay, Spin, Max Bet, Bet/Coins and Feature Preview (What the heck is a “Feature Preview”?? Well its just a cute short video of the game displaying how the reels spin.) Below all that are Game Settings (including Quick Spin), Auto Play Advanced Options and currency displays (Cash/Bet/Win). It's a pretty straight-shooting setup.
3 scatter symbols anywhere on screen triggers 12 Free Spins which pay out 2X. These Free Spins are also where the sticky wilds come into play - if you get any sticky wilds, they stay in position until the end of the Free Spins session. Free Spins are re-triggerable once, and your sticky wilds even carry on staying in place during your re-triggered Free Spins!
The graphics and animation are very detail orientated – complete with lightning in the background. The music is decent, but the real star of the show are the sound effects. Hilariously there's a cracking whip sound at each option chosen and a gun loading can be heard before spins. I played this slot for hours on end with zero performance issues.
If I was a cowboy I doubt I would last long – trouble always finds me. People tend to take things I say the wrong. In this modern day and age retribution might be trolling - those days it woulda been a bullet. But now I can relax, put on a pair of boots (and maybe some clothes?) and pretend to be a real-life gunslinger with Dead or Alive. Best of all I get to have some brilliant Free Spins with multipliers and sticky wilds – now that's something you couldn't get in the Wild West!
