Buffalo’s Sun 3 Slot Review

I went to a Mongolian 🇲🇳 restaurant not so long ago and it was one of the worst culinary experiences I’ve had in a while.

Other than the meat, which was boiled and had no spices whatsoever, we also tried drinking horse’s milk. 🐴🥛 It was really watery and had lumps at the bottom, which made me wonder if they’d milked a male horse by mistake.

Buffalo milk is said to be creamier…

OK, I can’t go on. I feel like I’m going to gag. 🤢

Let’s just say I managed to create a link to buffalos because the next game is Buffalo’s Sun 3 slot from Zillion. Can we please get on with it now?

Gameplay

Sheesh, what happened to the cougar or mountain lion or whatever the hell it is? The rest of the high-paying animals – Eagle, Bear, and Wolf – are rendered OK but that one poor critter looks a little worse for wear.

When you see the Random Wild – which I’ll explain later – it comes as a pop-up and the letter “i” has been replaced by a stick of dynamite. That seems so out of place; this isn’t a mining-themed game. So the design choices and renderings are a bit strange for me.

At least the game's backdrop – the Arizona desert – feels authentic (says the person who’s never set foot in that desert).

Above the 5-reel grid are some Jackpots: the Mini pays 50x your bet, the Minor pays 100x, the Major pays 500x, and the Grand Jackpot pays 1,000x your bet. More on these later.

The issue, though, is this: despite having a high volatility rate, the most you can win in the game is $160,000. Not cool, Zillion. Also, the 1,000x max multiplier is not very impressive. The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 95.20%
, there are 25 paylines, and you can play with any currency.

The Wild replaces all symbols other than Scatters, and it takes at least 3 Scatters to trigger the Free Spins round, as you’d expect. The Bonus symbol is a ball of fire, and it takes a minimum of 5 of those to enter the Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too). round.

Then there’s the Wheel of Fortune symbol. Nailing 3+ of those gets you a spin of the Wheel.

Features

RANDOM WILD:

This feature happens randomly – as the name suggests – and when it does, 2 or more Wilds can appear on any reel.

FREE SPINS:

This feature awards 10 spins, which takes 3 or more Scatters to initiate.

During the round, you can experience Random Walking Wilds that move around the grid and possibly create line wins.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE:

When you trigger this feature, by nailing 3 Wheel symbols, you’ll get to spin for a Jackpot.

The Wheel is made up of 2 concentric circles; if you hit an ARROW on the outer one, you get to play on the smaller circle where the Grand Jackpot lives

ACCUMULATION FEATURE:

Bonus symbols are collected whenever they land, at any stage of the game. You’ll see them shoot off toward the game’s logo to the top left of the screen.

The studio's website says, “When activated, this feature will randomly replace symbols, leading to surprising and potentially lucrative outcomes.”

Er, no. That’s not how it works. The Accumulator does nothing, but the Hold and Ring feature starts when you land 5 Bonus symbols simultaneously.

HOLD AND RING (WIN):

Triggering this feature seemed nigh on impossible when I was testing the game, but eventually I got it right. The triggering symbols stick to the grid positions and you get 3 re-spins – as per a standard Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too). feature.

The Bonus symbols carry values, which are tallied up and paid out at the end of the round.

Performance

This is where Buffalo’s Sun 3 slot shines, as I had no issues during testing.

Maximum Win

As I mentioned, you can only win $160,000 in this game, and the max multiplier is an equally anemic 1,000x. It means that you’ll need to bet a hectic $160 a pop (the minimum bet is $0.11) to be in the running for the top prize.

What I found a bit bizarre is that you have to use the Arrow Up/Down buttons to increase or decrease your bet because there’s no way to click on an icon, see all of the options listed, and pick one.

Conclusion

There are a couple of things that stick in my craw about Buffalo’s Sun 3 slot. The first is the volatility rate vs. potential payout mismatch. Second is the ridiculous $160 max bet required to win the less-then-stellar $160,000.

There are also no Buy Bonus or Ante BetAn Ante Bet is an option that costs a percentage of your bet but increases your chances of landing triggering symbols that initiate a feature. options, so you have to sit through many, many spins sometimes before anything kicks off.

And if your experience mirrors mine, we’re talking thousands of spins before you get into the Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too).. At least the Jackpot Wheel triggered more frequently and that has potential.

It’s all a bit surprising, given that this game is the latest in a series, which means the studio was doing something that players found agreeable. However, this version doesn’t seem to hold up its end.

There are a plethora of Buffalo-themed games available so personally, I’d play one of the others.

Take Great Buffalo Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too). slot from GameArt, as an example. It has a medium volatility rate but it can pay out $312,500 and you only need to bet a max of $62.50. Now that’s what I’m talking about.

It offers a Buy Bonus, Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too). Re-spins, Jackpots, and Free Spins. Now that’s more like it

Volatility RateSlot games can have low, medium, high, or extremely high volatility rates (or a combination thereof).

The less volatile the game, the more often it should pay out, but the lower the amount, the less the payout, as this is in keeping with the risk you’re taking. Volatility rate should be considered in conjunction with a game’s RTP.
