Piranha Pays Slot Review
I kept fishđas a hobby for a while. But similar to the old man in Play'n Goâs Piranha Pays slot, I bought the wrong fish home and introduced it to my tank.
The breed I got isnât as notorious as a piranha. Which might be part of the reason I got them unknowingly. I picked oscars, which is also a South American carnivorous fishđŚ. Theyâre aggressive and territorial, and I got 2 of the bastardsđ.
They decimated the other fish in my tank! It wasnât pretty, as I watched over a matter of days as they took over and killed every other living thing. And then they started on each other.
Gruesome. Which is not what I could call this game.
Gameplay
I love a slot with a story to it. In Piranha Pays slot, the set-up for the game is told through a series of Polaroid photos.
Spoiler warning ahead: a sweet old man who loves fish buys a little cutey patooty fish thatâs on sale, takes it home, and puts him in his fish tank. The little fish, though, is the titular piranha.
The Piranha is actually a Scatter symbol, and there are 5 versions of it, getting more and more menacing as you progress along the trail above the reels.
There is a second Scatter that looks like a can that will also help you progress along the trials.
That trail is linked to the Free Spins round, and I get into it in more detail under the Features section.
The fishtank is also where the 5 reels and 30 paylines are. If youâre a fan of Play Nâ Go, you might spot the Easter egg of one of the aliens from Gargantoonz slot I reviewed last year.
The green alien is in all the Reactoonz series of games and is one of the studio's most popular.
The high-paying symbols in Piranha Pays slot are all food items to help your little piranha grow big and vicious. In descending order, they are: a roast leg, a meat pie, an egg on toast, a slice of cake, and a biscuit.
This is a fiat-only game, with the exception of the Japanese yen. You can bet from $0.20 up to $50, or whatever the equivalent is in your preferred currency.
The numbers for this slot are looking pretty good; the best possible multiplier is 5,000x your bet, and if youâre betting the top bet, you win the top prize of $250,000!
Last but not least, this slot has a 96.2% RTPRTP stands for âReturn to Player.â The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a gameâs volatility rate. and high volatility.
Features
RANDOM MULTIPLIERS
On any random spin, the little jar above the reels will display a 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, or 10x to boost your winnings from that spin.
INSTANT WINS
Whenever Free Spins is nearly triggered, the Scatter symbol can randomly award 5x, 10x, 15x, or 20x your bet. The prize is revealed by the Scatter on the 3rd reel.
FREE SPINS
To trigger Free Spins, you need to land 3 Scatter symbols to be awarded 10 Free Spins.
During Free Spins, Scatter symbols are collected and progress you further along the Free Spins trail, leveling up your Free Spins round by increasing the size of the fish tank and the Piranha.
- Level 1 Free Spins: 1x1 Piranha and 5-reel, 5-row grid with 35 paylines.
- Level 2 Free Spins: 2x2 Piranha and 5-reel, 6-row grid with 40 paylines.
- Level 3 Free Spins: 3x3 Piranha and 5-reel, 5-row grid with 45 paylines.
- Level 4 Free Spins: 4x4 Piranha and 5-reel, 5-row grid with 50 paylines.
The Piranha symbol also acts as a Wild symbol that moves around the grid on every Free Spin. If you manage to reach the end of the trail, youâll be awarded 5,000x your total bet!
Performance
I tested Piranha Pays slot on my Windows laptop and Android phone, and it worked perfectly.
Maximum Win
To win the $250,000 main prize, youâll need to line up the 5,000x top multiplier while betting $50. The lowest you can bet per spin is $0.20.
Conclusion
Iâm in love with the design of Piranha Pays slot. It reminds me of the good old days of Pixar films. But this has a slightly dark humor edge with the monstrous piranha living in the sweet old manâs fish tank.
It is a stark contrast to the unattractive big bass games we frequently encounter on fish-themed slot machines.
I like that you can upgrade your Free Spins by collecting Scatter symbols, which is a mechanic I donât see often enough, in my opinion. It adds a level of excitement that so many games lack.
The reels growing in height as the Piranha symbol grows is cool and all, but it does take away some of the impact a jumbo Wild symbol can have as it takes over the reels, racking up more and more wins.
And it would fit the story Piranha Pays slot sets up in the opening, that this once cute, seemingly harmless fish grows into a monster that eats everything and takes over the entire tank.
The piranha would have been great if it were treated a little more like the bloodthirsty Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors.
Ultimately, this slot and its trial feature and 4 levels of Free Spins can result in a massive win if youâre lucky, but it can also take its toll on your nerves and bank balance trying to chase down a big win.
