Plinko Blast Review

I loves me a first-person shooter game 🎮. Wolfenstein 3D was one of the first ones that really caught my attention - maybe it was a novelty back then, but what struck me was that you could choose your preferred difficulty level.

Easy mode had the hero in a baby bonnet with a pacifier 🍼 in his mouth, under the banner "Can I play, Daddy?". The hardest setting showed him snarling under "I am Death incarnate!".

Plinko Blast from Evoplay asks the same question in a plain list down the side of the board, and what you pick there is the difference between an outside basket 💰 paying 9.1x and one paying 500x.

Gameplay

This game is stripped back to almost nothing. A dark teal screen holds a pyramid of small white pegs above a row of color-coded baskets, with the cartoon logo up in the corner doing the decorating.

A ball drops from the top of the pyramid, bounces off the pegs on its way down, and lands in one of the baskets along the bottom. Whatever multiplier that basket carries is what your bet gets boosted by.

The playing field runs from 8 rows of pegs up to 16 rows, and the RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
sits at 96.01% to 96.08%
depending on the difficulty you choose. Bets run from $1 to $200.

The Difficulty control sets the volatility, which makes the swing level your own choice. The max multiplier is 500x and the max win is $100,000.

Coming back to the size of the pyramid (8 rows up to 16), adding rows puts more pegs in the ball's path and more baskets along the bottom.

The more rows you've got, the more impressive the multipliers, but that also means there are more of them spread out along the bottom, so it's harder to get to the big numbers.

Difficulty runs Low, Medium and High, and it also rewrites the row of multipliers under the pegs. High pushes the outside baskets up hardest, and the dead-center basket stays where it is whatever you pick.

On the smallest field at Low difficulty, the baskets read 9.1x at either edge and step down through 3.2x and 1.5x to 0.2x dead center. Switching that field to High lifts the edges to 23.9x.

The 15- and 16-row fields on High are where the 500x max multiplier sits.

You can drop each ball yourself with the PLAY button, or leave AUTOPLAY running a whole string of them if you'd rather not bother doing the manual labor.

Every round’s results are recorded in a history panel, along with the bet, the payout and the difficulty on it.

Features

There aren't any bonus features to trigger. Everything happens in the drop itself, and the settings down the side of the board are the only controls that change anything.

PROVABLY FAIR:

Strictly speaking, this isn't a feature in the sense of the game offering you a specific way to make more money, but it is a feature in the way that this game offers you something that a lot of other games don't.

Any round can be checked for honesty, and nothing needs to trigger for that to happen. The round information sits in the History block, and each entry carries the validation string behind that drop.

Copy that string into any SHA-256 hash generator and the code it returns matches the hash on your round. I know this sounds technical, but it's not that difficult once you get the hang of it.

Performance

My balls were bouncing all over the place for quite a length of time, and I can't say the sensation was unpleasant. I'm talking about testing the game over many rounds, you filthy pervert!

Maximum Win

The max win is $100,000, and it comes off the max multiplier of 500x landing at the top bet of $200. The smallest bet you can place is $1.

Conclusion

The game's money sits in the outside baskets and nowhere else. Getting the ball into one means it breaks in the same direction on nearly every peg it touches, which is a long shot.

That 500x only exists at 15 or 16 rows on High difficulty. Every other combination of settings tops out well below it, so the headline number lives in a narrow corner of the menu rather than the game you'll be playing.

supports longer sessions, so you can sit on a bet and let a long string of balls run without the balance falling away underneath you.

The Difficulty menu is where the real trade-off lives. With Difficulty pushed to High on a full-size field, the swings widen right out, and the max multiplier waiting at the end of them is sized like a low-variance game's.

Players who want to dial their own variance and don't mind a plain, repetitive loop are the target, and the Low setting on a small field is a soft landing for $1 bets. Anyone hunting a big multiplier should look elsewhere.
