Commune with an Anime Deity in the Sun Princess Slot
nime is the only art form where a 14-year-old with gravity-defying hair can save the world, die, come back as a ghost, turn into a robot, and still be late for school. It’s a place where food always looks better than anything you’ve ever eaten, people scream attack names before punching, and somehow every villain has a tragic backstory involving either a lost sibling or a really dramatic sunset. We love it, hate it, and appreciate it.
In an effort to feed the anime craze, Hacksaw has released its brand new Sun Princess slot.
Anime Gold or One Punch Man Season forgettable?
Betting on the Sun Princess slot starts at just $0.10 a spin and tops out at $35 a spin. With its 10,000x max multiplier, you’ll have a shot at up to $350,000 when you’re betting at the $35-a-spin maximum. The slot features medium volatility, providing a balance between small, consistent wins and rare big wins. The Sun Princess slot offers an RTP of 96%.
Winning combinations are formed in clusters of five or more of the same symbols. To constitute a cluster, symbols must either be touching each other on the horizontal or vertical edge. Diagonal connections do not count.
Before every spin, Sun Ray frames could appear around pay or wilds symbols, triggering after all wins have been awarded. Once triggered, the frames will expand in a straight line, transforming all symbols in their path into the same symbol as the one that initially framed them. Vertical rays spread up and down, horizontal rays spread sideways, and four-way rays expand in both directions to the edges of the grid.
When a Sun Ray strikes a wild symbol, it adds a x2 multiplier, which increases by x2 each subsequent time a Sun Ray hits the wild. If more than one multiplier contributes to a winning combination, the values are first added together before being applied. Only a single Sun Ray frame can appear at the start of a spin. However, if it spreads across a matching pay symbol or wild, it triggers a Chain Reaction that places a new frame on that symbol, potentially continuing until the entire grid is covered.
Landing three FS scatter symbols in the base game will trigger a round of 10 Solaris Grove free spins. During this round of free spins, there is a higher likelihood of landing Sun Ray frames. If you trigger free spins with four FS scatter symbols, you’ll receive a round of ten Sunfire Palace free spins. In addition to an increased likelihood of Sun Ray frames, during this round of free spins, there will also be sticky wilds that will remain on the reels, collecting multiplier values for the duration of your round.
Five FS scatter symbols will trigger a round of Golden Eclipse Hidden Epic free spins. During this round of free spins, you’ll have all the same features as a round of Sunfire Palace free spins, with at least one Sun Ray frame guaranteed every spin.
The Sun Princess slot’s buy bonus features give you the option to purchase either a round of Solaris Grove or Sunfire Palace free spins. Golden Eclipse Hidden Epic free spins can only be triggered the old-fashioned way.
Is the Sun Princess slot another hacksaw classic?
Last week, Hacksaw released The Count, a beautiful homage to the rubber hose style of animation. This week, it’s the Sun Princess slot, a fairly generic anime slot with very little personality and even less soul. I do like large 7×7 grid slots, but providers risk the reels looking a little dull if they don’t put in much effort to make the small symbols look interesting. And the Sun Princess slot is an example of those efforts not working.
There is also a surface-level execution of the theme. Anime can be cute and beautiful, but it’s also weird and fun and irreverent and meaningful and contemplative. With the Sun Princess slot, Hacksaw has got the aesthetic right but left out the soul of the medium. What’s really irritating about this is that the provider has already shown it can make a great anime-themed slot with its recent Aiko and the Wind Spirit slot release, which was a beautiful interpretation of Studio Ghibli animation. I give the Sun Princess slot a five out of ten.
If you’re looking for some Hacksaw slots that I do recommend, try out 2 Wild 2 Die and Rise of Ymir.
