Birds give the least amount of fucks. Seagulls steal food straight out of the hands of unsuspecting diners, roosters wake us up at ungodly hours, and they all seem to take great pleasure in shitting on freshly washed cars. Seriously, why do we put up with these feathered dinosaur relics?
And just when you thought these feathered delinquents couldn’t get any more insufferable, Betsoft has gone and given them the starring role in its new Birds in the City slot.
These birds have expensive tastes
The Birds in the City slot features six reels, with wins awarded for landing eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid. Betting starts at $0.20 and tops out at $8 per spin. With a massive maximum win multiplier of 45,000x, betting at the top end of the limit will give you a shot at up to $360,000.
With very high volatility, the slot’s gameplay offers little in the way of small, consistent wins as you chase those larger payouts. Its theoretical RTP is 95.87%.
The slot features a cascading reels mechanic, with symbols involved in winning combinations disappearing, allowing new ones to drop into their place. This continues as long as new winning combinations form.
Multiplier symbols can appear during the base game and free spins, carrying values of up to 500x. When multiple multipliers appear, their values are added together and then applied to your winning amount.
Mystery symbols can also appear during the base game, revealing other symbols that may help form winning combinations.
Landing four or more Scatter symbols triggers a round of 15 free spins. During a round, multipliers that appear on winning spins are added to a global multiplier, which is applied to subsequent winning amounts.
If you want to increase your chances of triggering free spins, the Bet Booster feature doubles the likelihood of triggering a round in exchange for increasing your bet by 50%. Alternatively, you can purchase a free spins round.
Is the Birds in the City slot worth risking an outbreak?
The design of Betsoft’s Birds in the City slot reminded me of that brilliant Pixar short For the Birds. However, while Pixar managed to pack a few minutes of animation with character and humor, the slot feels strangely lifeless. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it. There’s just not much there that makes me want to keep playing.
Its biggest redeeming quality is the enormous maximum win multiplier. At 45,000x, there aren’t many slots offering a bigger potential payout, and even with the very high volatility, that’s enough to make this one worth a look.
All in all, I give the Birds in the City slot a seven out of ten.
