Ultras Slot: Football, Flares, and Felonies
Football ultras are basically theatre kids with flare guns, tribal tattoos, and a worrying belief that away fans are a rival species. They’ll spend all week planning chants, banners, smoke displays, and, occasionally, a light bit of medieval street diplomacy with the other mob, because apparently nothing says “I love my club” like trying to turn a service-station car park into Helm’s Deep.
While Green Street Hooligans showcased the visceral violence of soccer “enthusists,” BGaming opted for the PG version for its Ultras slot.
It doesn’t matter who you support
The Ultras slot features 100 paylines spread across a 5×4 reel grid. Betting starts from just $0.20 and tops out at $60 a spin. With a 5,000x max multiplier, you’ll have a shot at up to $300,000 in winnings when betting at the very top end of the limit.
With medium volatility, the slot’s gameplay will offer a mix of small, consistent wins and the rare larger win. The slot offers a possible RTP rate of 96%.
While splashy, the slot’s scatter symbol is more or less just another symbol in the Ultras slot. With no free spins to trigger, the symbol’s only feature is that three or more of the symbols will pay regardless of their position on the reels.
Expanding wild symbols can land on reels 2, 3, and 4. These symbols will, however, only expand if there is a winning combination to complete by doing so.
The slot’s hold and win feature is triggered with six or more instant-win bonus symbols. Once triggered, there will first be a fight between an Ultra and a cop, which will determine what multipliers are dropped onto the reels. All instant-win symbols and multiplier symbols will then be locked in place, and all other symbols will be removed.
Like all hold and win features, you’re then given three spins to add additional instant-win symbols to the reels. If you manage to do so, your three spins will be reset. If you go three consecutive spins without adding a symbol, your round will be over.
Each instant-win symbol that lands during the hold-and-win feature will move the progress bar up by one place. If 15 instant-win symbols land during your round, your winnings will be doubled. If 20 land, your winnings will be tripled.
In addition to triggering a round the old-fashioned way, you can purchase a round of the slot’s hold and win feature.
The Ultras slot is a little limp
Nolimit City has set the standard for what a disturbing slot can look like. Some of the developer’s slots are truly unhinged. With that context, I expected a lot when BGaming added a warning screen to the start of its Ultras slot advising that it contained “disturbing imagery and graphic content.”
Spoiler alert: the Ultras slot contains no such thing. While maybe slightly edgier than what BGaming normally produces, it’s nowhere close to something actually disturbing. And while the slot’s theme kind of works and the features are okay, this letdown tainted the experience for me. I give it a six out of ten.
