VIP Blackjack 8 Review

You've probably never held a $1,000 bill 💵, and the US Treasury would like to keep it that way. The Treasury stopped printing these notes because hardly anyone used them.

The face on the moolah belonged to Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president. These days, a decent one goes for a few thousand dollars at auction 🔨, which makes spending it at face value the worst deal you'll ever do.

VIP Blackjack 8 from Pragmatic Play Live would still happily take it. The minimum bet is exactly 1 Grover per seat, and the dealer in the bowtie is waiting at the green felt like he's expecting one.

Gameplay

I'm not going to spend time talking about the way this game looks. It's a live game that's being streamed, so that's all we really need to discuss on that point.

The game uses 8 standard 52-card decks, the RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 99.28%
, volatility is low, and the max multiplier is 126x. The max win is $236,500 per seat, with bets running from $1,000 to $21,500 per seat, side bets included.

As for the Japanese yen, it stays in your wallet, because it isn't accepted.

Up to 7 seats can be filled, and the Seat icon lets you grab more than 1 if the Multiseat option is available.

Chips go on the betspots before the betting timer runs out. The dealer deals 1 card face-up to each seat, starting on his left and himself last, then a second face-up card to every seat while his goes face-down.

Decisions run clockwise from the dealer's left. When it's your turn, your seat lights up, a timer counts down, and you pick Hit, Stand, Double or Split.

Your hand's value and your choice's icon show by your seat. An initial two-card 21 (an Ace with a 10, Jack, Queen or King) is Blackjack, and needs no further decisions.

Then the dealer flips his hidden card, draws on 16 or less and always stands on 17. Winning hands pay 1 to 1, Blackjack pays 3 to 2, and a tie is a Push that returns your bet.

Double Down works on any 2 initial cards and gets exactly 1 more card.

Split works on 2 initial cards of equal value, once per hand, Aces included, but split Aces get 1 card each and no Hit. A 10-value card on a split Ace counts as 21, not Blackjack, and a failed Split reverts to Stand.

The new trick is Double Down after a Split, now on all Pragmatic Play Blackjack tables, for any Split except Aces.

Shuffling happens once the cutting card comes out and the round ends, by a shuffler or by the dealer.

The cards get changed every 24 hours, after a period of inactivity, when the stream is unavailable, when a card with a defective barcode turns up, or when more than 3 cards hit the floor in 1 round.

Features

SIDE BETS:

Both side bets are optional and need a main bet down first. They pay whether your main hand wins or loses, and winners show as soon as the 2 initial cards land.

Perfect Pairs

Perfect Pairs gives you the chance to win if your first 2 cards form any pair, with a max bet of $1,000. The dealer's hand has no effect on it.

A Mixed Pair (different suit and color) pays 6 to 1, and a Colored Pair (different suit, same color) pays 12 to 1.

A Perfect Pair, 2 identical cards like 2 Queens of Hearts, pays 25 to 1. That's what 8 decks are good for. is 95.9%.

Twenty-One-Plus-Three

The 21+3 bet gives you the chance to win if your first 2 cards and the dealer's upcard form a poker-style combination, with a max bet of $500.

A Flush (3 non-sequential cards, same suit) pays 5 to 1. A Straight (3 in sequence, different suits) pays 10 to 1, and the Ace works both ends: Ace, 2, 3 or Queen, King, Ace.

Three of a Kind (same value, different suits) pays 30 to 1, and a Straight Flush (3 in sequence, same suit) pays 40 to 1. Suited Trips, 3 identical cards like 3 Aces of Hearts, pays 100 to 1.

Hold 2 winning combinations and only the highest pays. BET BEHIND:

Bet Behind lets you put up to $200 in an activated Bet Behind spot at another player's seat while betting is open. You share that hand's outcome at the main bet's payouts.

The player you’re betting behind makes every decision. You can do it with your own main bet down, but never on your own hand, and an unlimited number of players can Bet Behind anyone.

If that player sits the round out, you're refunded immediately, and the limits are in the Payouts & Limits window.

By default you follow the main player, and their Double Downs and Splits come off your balance too.

Uncheck "Double my bet when the main player Doubles Down" and the 3rd card is offered to you as a Hit, with nothing after it. Uncheck "Double my bet to cover both hands when the main player Splits" and you cover only the first split hand.

Both live in the Bet Behind tab in Settings and apply from the next round.

If your player Cashes Out, you get a proportional share based on your initial bet. Look, you're riding on a stranger's hard 16, so pick your horse carefully.

CASH OUT:

After the initial deal, a Cash Out button appears with the decision buttons, offering a guaranteed payout before the round ends. The amount is calculated on the fly from your hand's value, the dealer's face-up card, and any further decisions on that hand.

Split hands each get their own button, and a Double Down or a bust disables it. Press it and that hand is done, paid to your Balance when the round ends.

It covers the main bet only, and you can toggle it anytime in Settings. based on the Cash Out offer is 98%.

INSURANCE:

When the dealer's 1st card is an Ace, an extra betting timer starts and you can buy Insurance against a dealer Blackjack. It costs half your initial bet and pays 2 to 1 if the dealer's 2nd card is worth 10.

Tap Yes and all your hands are insured, each marked with an icon. Then the dealer checks for Blackjack, and the round either ends or moves on to decisions.

EARLY DECISIONS:

Early Decisions lets you lock in your move before your turn by clicking your preferred option. The scorebox switches to that decision's color, and the dealer acts on it when he gets to you.

HONEST DECISION:

Honest Decision kicks in if your decision timer runs out or you disconnect. The game picks for you: Stand if your hand is worth 12 or more, Hit on 11 or less, and No on any Insurance offer you left hanging.

AUTO-DECISIONS:

Auto-Decisions sits in its own Settings tab, where you switch on Basic or Advanced.

Basic covers Auto-Stand, Auto-Hit and Auto-Insurance, plus rules for when to Split or Double Down. Auto-Stand stands at or above a value you set, Auto-Hit hits at or below one, and the 2 can't overlap.

Neither fires on a soft hand or on cards inside your Split or Double range, since those work as exceptions, and an animated icon shows which one fired. Auto-Insurance is Always or Never across all occupied seats, and Always gets its own icon.

Advanced is a full chart of customizable rules for every scenario: flip the toggle and click the chart to set each action. Basic settings carry over where they apply, and turning Basic on switches Advanced off.

AUTOBET:

Place your bets, click AUTOBET, pick a number of rounds and hit Start.

The count ticks down on the Modify Autobet button, you can add chips during betting time, and unavailable betspots just get skipped. The "Auto Deal Now" toggle there applies only to Autobet main bets.

Hit Stop, or it quits on its own when the rounds hit 0 (with an on-screen message), your balance runs too low, or all your selected bets are no longer available.

WINNING BADGES AND ON FIRE:

Win consecutive rounds and a Winning Badge shows by your seat, numbered with your streak. One losing round wipes it, and the whole table gets to see it.

On Fire is the other new addition: a high win ratio across recent rounds puts a flame by your seat (combined with the badge on a streak) and by your name in chat. It's on by default, and you can disable it in Settings.

Performance

I thought the game had frozen at some point, but it was actually just the dealer sitting as quiet as a stone statue, waiting for players to take their seat.

Maximum Win

The max win here is $236,500 per seat, with up to 7 seats per player, and the max multiplier is 126x, at the top bet of $21,500 per seat with side bets included. The smallest bet you can place is $1,000, so bring a Grover.

Conclusion

The money here lives in the main bet, at 1 to 1 and 3 to 2 on Blackjack, with Doubles and Splits doing the heavy lifting.

Reaching $236,500 takes one seat splitting a $20,000 main bet, doubling both hands and winning both, while the same deal lands a Perfect Pair and Suited Trips. By my arithmetic (not the game's), that returns $236,500 with your bets included.

Perfect Pairs at 95.9% and 21+3 at 96.3% both return less than the main game, so every side-bet dollar carries a bigger house edge. Play them for a crack at 25 to 1 or 100 to 1, not for value.

Cash Out's 98% also sits below 99.28%, so every early exit trades a little return for certainty.

High-limit players who like strategy and long sessions should pull up a chair, and the $1,000 minimum keeps small bettors out anyway.
