War Review

My first experience with the brutal realities of games came at the tender age of 6, courtesy of my grandpa, a man whose cardigan collection rivaled Mr. Rogers and whose poker face could rival a sphinx😐.

He taught me Top Card, a game so simple that even a dead goldfish could grasp the rules. You flip a card, I flip a card, and the highest card wins🃏. Easy, right? Except, I'm pretty sure the old bastard cheated the entire time🤬.

He'd shuffle with the dexterity of a Vegas dealer, his eyes twinkling with what I now recognize as pure, unadulterated malice. And somehow, somehow, he always managed to pull out a higher card. Always!

The experience left me distrusting authority figures and a lifelong aversion to cardigans. Speaking of simple card games and the lingering trauma of childhood… well, here's War from Evolution.

Gameplay

War is set in a literal war room from the Cold War era. There are sonar screens and world maps. It's great. The table where the cards are dealt even has maps with little pins. The dealer even wears a military green uniform.

This fast-paced live tabletop card game is basically top card or simplified baccarat. The dealer deals with 2 cards: the casino's and the player's. You just need to predict and bet from $0.50 up to $5,000 on whether the player's card beats the casino's card.

The game's theoretical RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 92.05% to 96.56%
. The only currencies not accepted are the Australian and Canadian dollars and Dogecoin.

It's as simple as that. The ace is the highest card, and the suit doesn't matter. If the player's card wins, you win 1x your bet. The max is $5,000. If the dealer's card wins, you lose your bet. If you and the dealer tie, it's time to go to war!

You can choose to surrender, in which case you lose half your original bet and are out. But if you decide to go to war, you double your initial bet, and the game continues as follows.

The dealer burns 3 facedown cards before dealing each of you and the casino a face-up card. If your card is higher, you win back your original bet amount; if you lose, you lose your doubled bet.

If another tie occurs during the war, the same process repeats until there is a winner or up to four consecutive ties. The round continues without you needing to double your bet again, but you cannot back out if there are multiple successive ties. It is war, after all.

The game has a text chat function, so you can ask the dealer questions or have a little banter like you would in an actual casino. You can switch views to a split screen with the live feed at the top and a more straightforward graphic display of the cards.

Under settings, you can hide other players' chats and change your screen name. You can switch between HD, high, and low-quality video to suit your bandwidth. And the usual sound settings to turn the sound and sound effects on and off.

You can also check the results from previous rounds, as well as the game information and how to play. There's also live support if you run into any issues.

Features

SIDE BET

You make side bets on whether the player and casino's card will be tied. You can place this side bet at the start of every round. If multiple ties exist in a row, the round continues with your existing bet, and no additional bets are allowed.

There are separate higher payouts for multiple ties:

The 1st tied hand pays 10 to 1.
The 2nd tie pays 25 to 1.
The 3rd tie pays 50 to 1.
The 4th tied hand pays 200 to 1!

So the most you can win from a side bet here is 200x your bet, and if you bet the highest bet permitted, you can win $50,000.

Performance

This game played great on my Android phone and gaming laptop.

Maximum Win

Bets range from $0.50 to $5,000. The most you can win from the main bet is 1x your bet, or $5,000 if you're betting the highest bet allowed. The most you can win from the side bet is 200x your bet, or $50,000.

Conclusion

Well, you don't get a game as simple as this. Since it's a live game, the dealer sets the mood at the table, and some have the personality of a dead fish. Some people in the chat clearly creep when the dealer is a lady. But you can easily ignore them.

When you go to war, you double your bet to win 1.5x your bet. But if you lose, you lose it all. It's a baffling way to gamble if you ask me, but a lot of people like it.

If you're new to tabletop games, this might be a good way to get started. But if you have some experience with poker, black jack, or even normal baccarat, then go play those instead.
