Keno Review

You could play keno in an old Las Vegas coffee shop without putting your mocha down. Keno runners walked the tables collecting tickets and bets, so the game came to you between bites of breakfast 🍳.

The numbers lit up 💡 on boards hung around the room, and you'd check them without ever leaving the booth. Goddamn! I can’t even get a decent toasted sandwich at the hotels I stay at. But at least they have nice pink flamingo statues, so there’s that.

Beterlive cuts out the middleman with Keno. Nobody brings you eggs, sadly, but the drawn numbers still show up, and I think we can agree - that’s the most important part.

Gameplay

Here is another stripped-down, no-nonsense game that focuses on quick load times rather than a bunch of fluff and creative themes.

The board holds 40 numbers, laid out 8 across and 5 down on slate-blue tiles. You mark 1 to 10 numbers, the game draws 10 numbers at random, and the more of yours it hits, the bigger your multiplier. Now that’s what I’m talking about; simplicity. I like!

The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 96%
, volatility is high, and the max multiplier is 1,000x. The max win is $100,000, with bets running from $0.10 to $100, and no currency gets turned away.

The order of play is printed in the rules. Set your bet, choose a Risk Level (Low, Medium, or High), pick your numbers, and press Play.

The panel on the left has Manual and Auto tabs, an Amount field with 2x and 1/2 buttons next to it, the Level dropdown, a row of Auto Pick buttons labeled 1 to 10, a CLEAR TABLE button, a wide blue PLAY button, and an Instant reveal toggle.

Clear Table does what the name says and wipes every number you've picked off the grid.

Once the draw lands, your picks glow bright blue, drawn numbers you didn't pick show red numerals on dark tiles, and a pick that got drawn turns into an orange ball. A row of payout cells under the board shows the multiplier for each hit count.

The rules put it plainly: matches "may" earn a multiplier, depending on how many you hit and which Risk Level you're on. The game also says more number combinations raise your potential winnings.

As for the paytable, it goes like this: Medium, 5 picks. Zero or 1 hit pays 0x, 2 hits pay 1.35x, 3 hits pay 4x, and 4 hits pay 13x. Hit all 5 and it jumps to 380x, which tells you exactly where the game keeps its money.

also moves depending on how many numbers you pick and which Level you're on. A single pick sits at 96.25% on all 3 Levels.

Low stays between 95.93% and 96.35%, Medium swings from 95.19% (3 picks) to 96.53% (6 picks), and High runs from 95.95% (3 picks) to 96.84% (4 picks), the best figure on the table.

Features

RISK LEVELS:

You pick your Risk Level from the Level dropdown on the panel, and it's the one real decision you have to make. Which is good, because I don’t like thinking too much.

If the gods wanted me to think, they’d have made me Elon Musk, and I’d be a trillionaire. Wait… that sounds more like the gods cursed me. Whyyyyyyy???

Low Risk gives you more frequent wins with lower maximum multipliers. Medium Risk balances win frequency against payout size. High Risk offers bigger potential payouts with less frequent wins.

Each Level has its own RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

at each pick count, so the dropdown changes your return as well as your swings.

AUTO PICK:

The Auto Pick buttons pick 1 to 10 random numbers for you. Hit the 7 and the game fills 7 tiles, so you don't have to bother marking your own.

AUTOPLAY:

Autoplay runs multiple rounds automatically using predefined settings. To set it up, choose the number of rounds, select your Risk Level, pick your numbers, and press Autoplay.

Performance

Keno performed better than some of Elon Musk's rockets and armor-plated cars, so take that, you rich genius bastard.

Maximum Win

The max multiplier of 1,000x at the $100 top bet gives you the max win of $100,000. The minimum bet is $0.10.

Conclusion

The money in this game comes from hitting a big share of your picks on a big pick count. On Medium with 5 picks, the payouts crawl along until all 5 land and the 380x shows up. The 1,000x, according to the stats, sits on 10 picks with all 10 hitting.

Here's what that means. Every number you pick has a 1-in-4 chance of getting drawn, since 10 of the 40 come out. By my own calculations, getting all 10 of your 10 picks drawn is 1 combination out of 847,660,528 (see Elon - I can also do math).

points to a game built for longer sessions, but the pick-by-Level table nudges that figure up or down.

Look, the real problem is the pairing. High volatility with a 1,000x max multiplier is frankly quite shocking.

Low-bet players who like a quick pick-and-watch round will get the most out of this game. Anyone chasing a big multiplier to make the swings worth it should pass, coz 1,000x is as good as it gets.

The less volatile the game, the more often it should pay out, but the lower the amount, the less the payout, as this is in keeping with the risk you’re taking. Volatility rate should be considered in conjunction with a game’s RTP.
