Another Arthur in the Golden Avalon Hold & Win Slot

If you’re not in the know, Avalon is a mythical island in Arthurian legend where King Arthur’s sword Excalibur was made. It’s also where he went to be healed after getting his ass handed to him at the Battle of Camlann. Think of it as the medieval version of a luxury rehab clinic, except instead of yoga and green juice, you get sorceresses and a magical sword.

Now that I’ve really sold you on how exciting a setting it is, here’s the Golden Avalon Hold & Win slot from BGaming.

Welcome to the age of heroes

The Golden Avalon Hold & Win slot features up to 262,144 ways to win spread across six reels. The slot offers betting from $0.10 per spin, with the limit capped at $150 per spin.

If you’re betting at the max limit, you’ll have a shot at $450,000 in winnings thanks to a 3,000x maximum multiplier. The slot features medium to high volatility and offers an expected RTP of 96.56%.

Apparent from the wild symbol, the slot’s bonus features all revolve around the coin symbols, which will carry instant win values of 1x, 2x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 20x, or 50x your bet. When six or more Coin symbols land on the reels, you will trigger the Golden Respin feature.

The Golden Respin feature is a Hold & Win mechanic that freezes all triggering instant win coin symbols in place and removes all other symbols from the reels. You then get three spins to add additional instant win coin symbols to the reels. If you do, your three spins will be reset. If you don’t add another coin symbol to the reels after three consecutive wins, your round will be over.

Before the round begins, you must choose between two feature paths: Arthur’s Sword or Merlin’s Staff.

If you select Arthur’s Sword, filling an entire reel will cause its coins to split into two smaller coins unless they have already reached their smallest size. In addition, each coin can gain a random multiplier ranging from 2x to 10x.

If you choose Merlin’s Staff, filling a reel instead applies a 2x to 10x random multiplier to each coin on that reel, while coins also have the potential to split into two smaller ones.

Filling three reels during a round of Golden Respin will award the Mini prize (20x), four reels will award the Minor prize (50x), and five reels will award the Major prize (100x). Filling all six reels will award the Mega prize, which pays 1000x your bet. A progress bar displayed above the reels tracks how close you are to unlocking each of these prizes.

Is the Golden Avalon Hold & Win slot worthy of the Knights of the Round Table?

Some of the first slots I ever reviewed were the Avalon slots from Microgaming. The original came out in 2006, with a sequel following in 2014, when I started my career. I give this background because the Golden Avalon Hold & Win slot gave me some serious deja vu with its art style, and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Despite the modern feature set, the slot feels dated, and as an entry into the over saturated Aurthurian legend genre, I’m not sure this one is going to stand out. I give the Golden Avalon Hold & Win slot a six out of ten.

If you’re looking for a few BGaming slots I recommend, try Snoop Dogg Dollars or OOF The Goldmine Planet.
