Ice Fishing Slot Review

The coldest place on Earth is in Antarctica, specifically between Dome Argus and Dome Fuji. The temperature there gets as cold as -136 to -144 degrees Fahrenheit ❄️. Goddamn!

The coldest place where people actively fish is Yakutia in Siberia. There, you’ll have to face temperatures of -58 degrees Fahrenheit to -96 degrees Fahrenheit (a record low). Compared to Antarctica, that seems positively balmy! 🌴

Lucky for us, we get to sit at home and watch some other person do the dirty work for us, and possibly make a fortune of his/her effort. That sounds like my kinda fishing! 😉

This is Ice Fishing from Evolution.

Gameplay

In a world saturated with the never-ending Big Bass series, it’s good to know that there are other options. And by that, I don’t just mean alternative studios or games, but genres, too!

Allow me to present to you, Ice Fishing, which has sweet bugger-all to do with fish, and everything to do with a 53-segment Wheel of Fortune.

When you enter the game, which is live, by the way, you’ll see a presenter in a little window to the bottom left of the screen.

The main view is filled with the Wheel, and on it, you’ll see Lil’ Blues, Big Oranges, and Huge Reds represented – these are the 3 fishes you wanna catch.

Between the wedges representing the fish are wedges of light blue and darker blue (called Leaf 1 and 2, respectively). Leaf wins pay 1:1.

Don’t worry, I’ll explain how this game works in a sec, but let’s jump into the stats real quick.

The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 97.10%
, the volatility rate is medium, the max multiplier is 500x, but the max win is… holy shit snacks… $500,000! The only currencies you can’t play with are the Australian dollar and Dogecoin.

How to Play:

Right, so this is what you’ve been waiting for if you’re not familiar with the game already. The object here is to catch the largest multiplier.

Multipliers are randomly distributed across the Wheel, and they reset with each spin. Multipliers boost your bet.

You can bet on fish (which leads to the Bonus game), or Leaf 1 or 2, which are the light and dark blue (respectively) segments on the Wheel.

Betting Phase:

Place your bets on any of the following:

  • Leaf 1 covers 23 segments of the same color
  • Leaf 2 also covers 23 segments of the same color
  • Lil’ Blues covers 4 segments
  • Big Oranges cover 2 segments
  • Huge Reds cover 1 segment

If you fancy betting on all of the fish options (so, not Leaf 1 or 2), hit the ALL BONUSES tab.

What does this mean in practice?

Leaf 1 and 2 can end up with multipliers of 3x to 10x. Let’s use actual examples to explain precisely how things work. If a 10x multiplier lands on a Leaf 1 segment, which usually pays 1:1, then the new payout is 9:1.

Bonus segments can have random multipliers of 2x to 10x. If a 10x multiplier lands on a Lil’ Blues segment, all fish multipliers (that’s any type) are multiplied by 10 prior to the Bonus game starting.

As for the mobile version of this game, it’s surprisingly attractive to look at and easy to interact with.

Features

BONUS GAME:

When this game starts, you’ll see the host fishing under the ice. Beneath the frozen surface swim fish with multipliers – depending on which fish triggers the Bonus game, the multipliers (and fish colors) will align with the triggering fish.

Lil’ Blues can have multipliers of up to 100x, Big Oranges can have up to 200x, while Huge Reds can have up to 500x multipliers.

If there was a multiplier applied to all fish (during the Wheel spin), the fish’s multiplier is multiplied by that multiplier.

Performance

I played this game on my iPhone and Mac Mini, with no issues.

Maximum Win

The game’s max multiplier is 500x and the max win is $500,000.

Betting is as follows:

  • Leaf 1: $0.10 to $5,000
  • Leaf 2: $0.10 to $5,000
  • Lil’ Blues: $0.10 to $1,000
  • Big Oranges: $0.10 to $500
  • Huge Reds: $0.10 to $250

Conclusion

OK, so clearly the 86.80% Leaf segmentation across the Wheel limits access to the Bonus round, which is understandable. Looked at another way, it translates into a 13.21% fish bonus segment allocation (that’s 1 in 7.6 spins).

How does this compare against the average medium volatility slot game? If we compare against the Bonus game hit rates of, say, Nolimit City or Pragmatic games (also medium volatility), we find that Ice Fishing’s fish bonus could be 25x to 30x more frequent.

Of course, these are just averages and generalizations, but you get the picture; the possibility of nailing a fish bonus is not bad.

Using “simple” probability math based on the 53-segment Wheel, it appears that Lil’ Blues have a 7.55% hit rate, Big Oranges have a 3.77% hit rate, while Huge Reds have a 1.89% hit rate. Leaf 1 and 2 have a 43.40% hit rate.

But Leaf segments provide near constant multiplier access (up to 9:1 odds), so there is that. It means frequent organic access without an extended, crazy grind like in slot games.

My evaluation (and this is just a guess) is that Lil’ Blues would be good for conservative players to focus on. Aggressive players should go after the Huge Reds or the All Bonus option (the latter covers the 13.21% bonus/fish segments).
