Lightning Storm Review

Dudes and Dudettes: this is going to be a long-ass review, so I’m seriously not going to add to your misery by asking that you read some long-winded intro (which you’ll probably gloss over anyway, so that would be a wasted effort). 😭

Instead, I’m going to tell you that the song Rock You Like a Hurricane by the Scorpions can be heard while playing Lightning Storm from Evolution. 🦂🤘

Interesting fact aside, let’s see if the game is any good, jahwol?

Gameplay

Released in 2024, this live game featuring a DigiWheel (I’ll explain what that is, don’t worry) offers 5 bonus games to keep things interesting.

And the game certainly looks like nothing else. When you fire it up, you’ll see a virtual studio that has transformed into a Frankensteinian lab. The live dealer interacts with the elements and keeps the vibe going, and he also chats to players (who can chat to each other, too).

A quick rundown of the stats reveals that the RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
tops out at 97.44%
(Leaf bets) from 95.12% (other bets). The max multiplier is 10,000x, and the max win is capped at $500,000, despite the fact that you can bet from $0.10 to $10,000.

As for the currencies you can’t play with, that’s the Ozzie dollar and Dogecoin. Every other form of currency is good to go, but no, you can’t put your wife up as collateral.

Interestingly, the game translates beautifully to a mobile phone (portrait mode only). But I guess that shouldn’t surprise me; Evolution is the master of live games, after all.

HOW TO PLAY:

OK, we need a separate section for this, as we’ve not seen a game exactly like this before. The main thing is that the game starts on a 39-segment Wheel.

You need to guess which segment the Wheel comes to rest on, and the flapper will show the Wheel segment that has won. If you bet on that segment, your bet will be multiplied accordingly.

If you land on a Leaf segment, you’ll get an instant payout based on the “Payouts” table.

The Wheel has 20 Bonus symbols distributed across it and these cover numbers 1 to 20. Land on a Bonus symbol and you’ll play that specific Bonus round.

Now that we know the basics, let’s get down to brass tacks. The first thing you need to do is place a bet on where you think the Wheel will stop – and you can place multiple bets at the same time.

You can bet on the following:

  • Numbered positions (1 to 20)
  • Leaf positions (19 segments of the Wheel)
  • Odd numbers
  • Even numbers
  • Storm Chaser: a bet will be placed on each spot with a Lightning Bonus symbol
  • X Chaser: a bet will be placed on each spot that gets a multiplier on the initial spin

PS: Storm Chaser costs 2.7x and X Chaser costs 7.8x.

Features

LIGHTNING FEATURE:

This refers to the Lightning bolt symbols that are covered by the Storm Chaser bet, as well as the X Chaser bets (you can also bet on these manually and selectively). Lightning bolts are randomly assigned to 20 segments with each spin.

Segments with Bonus symbols can also get a random multiplier assigned to them – a minimum of one random multiplier will be assigned per spin.

HOT SPOT:

You’ll now see a massive screen filled with multipliers grouped by value – this is the Hot Spot. If the Hot Spot segment of the Wheel received a random multiplier initially, all multipliers on the screen are multiplied by this multiplier before the Bonus game pops off.

Now, the multipliers will be shuffled. You must choose a tile on the screen where you think the biggest multiplier will land. The multipliers will then be revealed and a 3x3 area travels around the screen.

When it stops, it’ll double all multipliers in the area. If your bet falls within this area, your selected multiplier is doubled.

MONSTER MASH:

The aim of this feature is to create a monster. You’ll see three horizontal reels – each representing a body part (head, torso, and legs) – and these parts all have random multiplier values assigned to them.

Regular Multipliers (1x to 50x) are additive, and attached to blue Monster parts, and Global Multipliers (4x to 6x) are multiplicative, and are attached to golden body parts.

When the game show host pulls the lever, the reels will start spinning. They’ll land on a combo of body parts and that’s how you’ll assemble your Monster with its total multiplier.

If this Bonus segment gets a multiplier on the initial spin, all Regular Multipliers on the belt are multiplied before the game starts. The maximum multiplier is capped at 10,000x.

BATTERY CHARGER:

The host rotates a set of gears which activates a conveyor belt with 10 batteries. Nine of these have Regular Multipliers attached to each of them, while one battery has a Global Multiplier which doubles the values of all of the batteries on the belt.

If this Bonus segment gets a multiplier on the initial spin, all Regular Multipliers on the belt are multiplied before the game starts.

OK, so once the party starts, the batteries will fall onto a battery charger, and a mini-wheel determines the outcome of each drop: if the wheel stops on red, the battery explodes (the next battery will then fall); if the wheel stops on green, then two things can happen:

  • If there’s a Regular Multiplier, you’ll score the multiplier attached to the battery
  • If there’s a Global Multiplier, all batteries still on the conveyor belt are doubled

FIREBALL:

In this round, a ball is launched into an enclosure that has multipliers lining the floor. There are 149 of these pockets with Regular and Double Multipliers.

If the ball falls on a regular Multiplier, that multiplier will be the total round multiplier. If the ball falls on the Double, all Regular Multipliers on the grid get doubled and the ball is launched again.

If this Bonus segment gets a multiplier on the initial spin, all Regular Multipliers on the belt are multiplied before the game starts. The maximum multiplier is capped at 10,000x.

LIGHTNING STORM:

In this round, you’ll see a massive billboard with a grid of 8 Regular (additive) and three Global (multiplicative) multipliers.

You’ll need to choose which of the three lightning strikes you think will create the biggest multiplier – the max multiplier is capped at 20,000x!

Lightning will strike three times and you’ll get the multiplier value you chose at the start of the round.

Performance

I had no problems with loading times or gameplay on any of my devices.

Maximum Win

Betting ranges from $0.10 to $10,000. The max multiplier is 10,000x, and the max win is capped at $500,000.

Conclusion

In my humble opinion (and it’s an opinion only, peeps, not advice) it would be best for risk-averse players to focus on Leaf bets to take advantage of the improved RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. If you’re looking for higher variance, the Storm Chaser and X Chaser might be better suited, as you get access to all of the multiplied bonuses, albeit at a lower RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Volatility RateSlot games can have low, medium, high, or extremely high volatility rates (or a combination thereof).

The less volatile the game, the more often it should pay out, but the lower the amount, the less the payout, as this is in keeping with the risk you’re taking. Volatility rate should be considered in conjunction with a game’s RTP.
