Admiral Nelson Slot Review
There are no two ways about – Admiral Horatio Nelson was one cool dude who led a fascinating life. He got to travel the world, make friends and kill plenty of enemies. Joining the navy at age 12, Nelson was Captain by 20 and an Admiral by 39. He may not have been the smartest tool in the shed though because he suffered from terrible sea-sickness, so his career choice was a bit dubious!
He is reputed to have fought off a polar bear with the butt of an empty rifle and become a legend through the success he achieved, often as a result of not following orders. Nelson sacrificed a lot for the navy – including sight in one eye and his right arm. So how friggin awesome was this guy?!
Admiral Nelson, a video slot by Amatic takes place before he lost an arm and eye. In fact, he looks kinda bright eyed and bushy tailed, devoid of the ravages of war. It's designed to work on all platforms and devices and has a timeless elegance. This elegance is evident early on, with a gorgeous rendering of naval ships serving as the backdrop. After my first winning spin, the symbol changed to a dance sequence between Nelson and his beloved. “It's all too lovely for words,” I thought as I sipped my tea with my pinkie finger extended...
Gameplay
Admiral Nelson is a fairly volatile 5 reel, 10 payline slot. The symbols are mostly naval orientated, apart from the romantic interest, a beautiful blonde reminiscent of a young Kim Basinger. She's joined by a fully limbed Nelson, an anchor, badge, face card letters, cannon and a ship icon.
Nelson is the wild, able to substitute for everything except the cannon (scatter) and the ship (bonus symbol).
The Amantic setup is well laid out visually with display panels showing Total Coins, Total win and Bet amounts. Underneath them are Auto Start, Exit, Gamble, Bet, and Start. Up top there's paytable info. It's worth noting that despite the user-friendly interface, there is no QuickSpin and the Autostart has no advanced options.
Features
3 ship symbols in any position win you 10 free spins which can be re-triggered. During the Free spins, the ships change color and act as an extra wild.
There's also a Gamble option after each winning spin where you can win x2 your bet (card color) or x4 (card color and suit). One great thing about Amantic is they allow players to scale down their bets in their Gamble features..
Unique Features
Every time you get 2 scatters and a Nelson (wild) symbol, your win is doubled.
Performance
The graphics and music are stylish, adding to the “upper crust” feel of Admiral Nelson. The sound effects are Amantic standard ones which work well enough, but I'd love to hear some variance one day. Performance wise Admiral Nelson sailed through wonderfully on both the P.C and mobile platforms I tested.
Conclusion
It is said that “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and that certainly applies here. There are slots with better graphics and more features, but Admiral Nelson not only provides great fun, but also gives players an excellent chance to reap decent rewards. This slot is best enjoyed with tea and scones. So if you want a bit of refinement when it comes to your choice of slot, join the Admiral on the high seas!
