Area Link Dragon Slot Review

We humans eat billions of eggs🥚. Chicken eggs are the most obvious.

But we also eat quail eggs, which, if I think about it, sums up all the bird eggs we eat. Although we could eat ostrich, duck🦆, and turkey eggs🦃, I don’t think that is very common at all. We never eat sparrow or parrot🦜 eggs for some reason.

We eat fish🐟eggs, or roe too. However, we only consume specific types of fish eggs. No sharks or anything like that.

The only other animal I can think of that lays eggs are reptiles🐍. Reptile egg shells are rubbery. And having seen what goes on in there with a hatching light behind it, I don’t want to try them.

Dragon eggs are supposed to be made of rock. The Area Link Dragon slot from Quickfire looks like it made stone-shelled dragon eggs as well, but I guess these have more profitable contents than an aborted mythical monster.

Gameplay

These days, Area Link titles are essentially a staple in slots, coming out in various themes from bank heists to leprechauns.

This time we’re in more of a high-fantasy medieval setting with a gnarly-looking dragon to the right of the reels that looks like it got resurrected from an early 2010’s game and a set of static Jackpots displayed on the right.

We’re playing on a 5x3 game matrix with 20 paylines and a green, purple, red, and blue dragon egg sitting on top of reels 1 to 5, respectively. They collect color-matching Fireball symbols, which trigger features during the bonus game.

There are also gold fireballs that carry instant cash prizes, but these only payout in the Bonus Game. If you’ve played any Area Link or Area Cash titles before, you’ll know all about them. But I won’t get ahead of myself!

There are more pertinent details you need to know before we get into the different features you can trigger for the Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too). Bonus Game. The major symbols include a chest of rubies, a cluster of crystals, a ruby-topped staff, a pendant, and a ring.

There’s also a Wild symbol, a dragon head image, which can land stacked on the reels. It stands in for any paying symbols, with the exception of the Fireball symbols.

This is a high-volatility slot with a theoretical RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
of 96.5%
. Regrettably, this slot only accepts fiat currency, but it does not accept the Russian ruble or the Japanese yen.

There is a decent maximum multiplier of 5,000x, which, if you’re playing at the top of the betting range ($0.20 to $50), will net you the game’s top prize of $250,000 if you can hit it.

And now, on to the features!

Features

AREA LINK FEATURE

The Area Link feature isn’t quite like your standard Hold & Win Bonus Game.

Any colored Fireball symbols that land on the reels and collect into their color-matched eggs above the reels randomly trigger this Bonus Game.

The triggering symbols are carried over to the Bonus Game where you start with 3 Re-spins. Landing any new Fireball symbol resets the Re-spins counter back to 3.

The combination of Fireball symbols determines the Dragon Upgrades you have during your Bonus Game.

  • Green Dragon Upgrade: Multiplier: Each Re-spin awards a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, or 5x to the total win of that spin.
  • Purple Dragon Upgrade: Double Array: For the duration of the round, this feature adds a second 5x3 set of independent reels.
  • Red Dragon Upgrade: Collect All: During the feature, Red Fireball symbols can land on the reels and collect all Gold Fireball symbols from the top left position to the bottom values, sum them up, and add the total to your winnings, then transform into a Golden Fireball with a random value.
  • Blue Dragon Upgrade: Blast: With this feature, Blue Fireballs appear on the reels and apply their multiplier to a random number of Gold Fireball symbols present on the reels, after which they turn into a Gold Fireball with a random value.

You can also trigger multiple Dragon Upgrades simultaneously.

When you activate the Green Dragon upgrade alongside the Purple Dragon upgrade, both sets of reels receive the awarded multiplier.

The multiplier appears after the Red Fireball feature if you activate the Green Dragon upgrade with the Red Dragon upgrade.

If you trigger the Green Dragon upgrade with the Blue Dragon upgrade, the multiplier is awarded before the Blue Fireball feature.

If you trigger the Red Dragon upgrade with the Purple Dragon upgrade, the Red Fireball only collects values within its own set of reels.

If you trigger the Red Dragon upgrade with a Blue Dragon upgrade, all Blue Fireball features occur before any Red Fireball features.

If you trigger the Blue Dragon upgrade with a Purple Dragon upgrade, the Blue Fireball only adds to the Gold Fireballs within its set of reels.

JACKPOTS

Except for the Grand Jackpot, which requires you to fill all 15 positions during the Bonus Game to win, there are four static Jackpot prizes available here.

  • Grand Jackpot = 5,000x your bet.
  • Major Jackpot = 100x your bet.
  • Minor Jackpot = 20x your bet.
  • Mini Jackpot = 10x your bet.

Performance

During my play-through on my laptop and phone, I had no complaints across multiple browsers.

Maximum Win

You can win as much as $250,000 on Area Link Dragon slot, but only if you wager $50 per spin and reach the game’s best possible multiplier of 5,000x. However, the betting range starts as low as $0.20.

Conclusion

Area Link titles know how to ramp up the intensity of their base games through random feature symbols.

My only gripe about this particular game is that there is no Buy Bonus that lets you trigger the Bonus Game and which Area Link features you would like.

We’ve seen features like the Dragon Upgrades many times. So I can’t say they’re novel, but they are exciting. My personal favorites are the Red Dragon and Purple Dragon upgrades, and when they trigger together, they make a heart-pumping Bonus Game.

The maximum win and all other aspects are identical to previous Area Link titles, indicating that this is merely a reskin. Do I care? Not really. The Area Link Bonus Game feature mechanic is a solid one.

Ignore the base game and its paltry paylines; enter the Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too). Bonus Game, and you will profit if luck is on your side.

Volatility RateSlot games can have low, medium, high, or extremely high volatility rates (or a combination thereof).

The less volatile the game, the more often it should pay out, but the lower the amount, the less the payout, as this is in keeping with the risk you’re taking. Volatility rate should be considered in conjunction with a game’s RTP.
