Arena of Gold Slot Review

Imagine being so in debt, or thirsty for glory that you’d give up your freedom to fight to the death. While the threat of (even grave) injury always hovers around sports such as boxing and UFC, agreeing to kill or be killed is a different animal altogether.

It’s usually assumed that all gladiators in ancient Rome were slaves, but that’s not true at all. It wasn’t unheard of for ex-soldiers, ordinary men, and even senators to take to the sands.

Maybe there was even a slew of male models who decided they were done with manscaping. This manicured lot could’ve been the inspiration for Quickfire’s characters in Arena of Gold slot.

Gameplay

We’re in a Roman arena, where crowds are baying for blood to be spilled. The gladiators that we see on the 5x3 reel grid don’t look the part at all.

They seem to be posing for an Olde Men’s Health feature – something about how to get a ripped six pack for summer. Only in this context, that means something entirely different!

The sponsor of the event, the purple-clad emperor, is also the Wild symbol. Frankly, he looks like he just left the set of Days of our Lives…

What I do like is how clean the play area is; it’s not cluttered with controls. Having said that, they’ve sacrificed the Turbo setting and even the AutoSpin doesn’t allow you to customize it further than the number of spins.

The grid has enough real estate, as does the background, to give the game the gladiatorial feel the studio was going for.

This game has got a medium volatility coupled with an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
of 96.20%.

Features

Land 6 gold coins and you’ll trigger the Golden Re-spins feature which, by the way, can also happen during the Free Spins round.

All of the normal symbols will be removed from the grid, with only golden coins taking their place. Each of these coins will have a value and they do vary.

You’ll be gifted 3 spins as you start this feature, but every time a new gold coin lands, that will reset the number back to 3 spins.

Golden Re-spins are what you want because these can award you a Jackpot. If you manage to fill all the positions on the grid with coins, you’ll clinch the Maxi Jackpot.

Taking a step back, let’s chat about the Scatters. These symbols – which only appear on reels 1, 3, and 5 – get you wins which are added to your payline wins.

Landing 3 Scatters gets you 5 Free Spins, and you can even witness reels 2, 3, and 4 merging into a single reel with Big symbols. These Big symbols count as 9 separate symbols, while Big Scatters count as 1.

Performance

The game performed seamlessly on all the devices I tested it on.

Max Win

It’s not what I would have imagined a gladiator would have fought for, but nonetheless. Clinch the 2,500x multiplier and you could be looking at a max win of €125,000.

Conclusion

I must admit I was expecting more for a game based on a Roman arena, where gladiators fought for their very lives.

More from the max win (a brave gladiator could win his freedom, after all), more from the features, and more edginess from the graphics.

The Golden Re-spins feature isn’t bad at all, albeit out of place here coz we tend to see them on Asian-themed games. And they did seem to land reasonably easily, at least in my experience.

Scatters that get you wins and Free Spins are also okay, but it’s not a very exciting game. Arena of Gold slot is a mediocre game, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play it.
