Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways Slot Review

Back when I was in bands playing 🥁 obnoxious punk tunes and old-school psychobilly jams, my band mates and I went on a road trip to acquire a big stand-up bass from a retired small-town doctor.

The drive would take about 4 hours each way, so we decided we’d stay overnight🛌. The only issue was that we could only find a small bed and breakfast that we could afford.

A carload of scruffy punks with mohawks, dreadlocks, and torn clothes turned out to be a bit of a todo in a small town. 🤨

We were pulled over almost immediately as we drove into town. The cop 👮 asked why we were there, what we were doing, and if he needed to be concerned if we had anything illegal in the vehicle.

We were as polite as possible, and we even offered to let him search the car. Thankfully, he didn’t.

The best part was that when we arrived at the B&B, the owner, a middle-aged woman, screamed and locked the door🙅‍♀️ when we got out of the car. The same cop showed up when she called the police.

All that drama trying to buy a big bass just because of the way we were dressed.

If you want to go after Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways slot from Pragmatic Play, you don’t even need pants.

Gameplay

This is one of a long list of Big Bass games from Pragmatic Play. This time the slot borrows the extremely popular Megaways feature from Big Time Gaming to add a new spin on an old favorite.

Just like most of its predecessors, the max win for Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways slot is a staggering €400,000! No surprise given this is a **high-volatility slot **with an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate. of 96.7%.

Wins are awarded for landing matching symbols in any position from left to right on adjacent reels.

Symbols that form part of winning combinations disappear, the remaining symbols drop in, and new symbols replace them. Any new symbols are the same size as the initial symbols.

Symbol drops continue as long as new winning combinations are formed and contribute to that spin prize.

If you’ve played any of Pragmatic Play’s Big Bass titles before, then the game will look very familiar to you. The reels are submerged under water, with fish swimming around in the background.

The differences are that reels 1 and 6 can have from 2 to 6 symbols land on a spin. Above reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 are 3 horizontal rows that spin from left to right.

The 3 horizontal reels lock and unlock at random on every spin, and only unlocked reels can participate in winning combinations. The topmost reel contains only Wild and blank symbols.

When all the reels are active, there are up to 147,456 pay ways.

High-paying symbols include a fishing bobber, a fishing rod, a dragonfly, a tackle box, and a school of bass. Pretty much identical to previous Big Bass slots.

You can bet as low as €0.20 or as high as €20. You can play with any crypto or fiat currency you want, with the exception of the Japanese yen.

There is a win ceiling of €400,000 if you manage to hit the 20,000x max multiplier and are betting at the top of the betting range.

Despite the oddly shaped game grid and multiple symbol sizes, Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways slot looks and plays surprisingly well on a phone.

Granted, I am playing on an Android phone with a sizable screen, but I expect it plays just as well on any phone, so you can play on the couch or on the go.

Features

WILDS

The Wild symbol is a fishing net with WILD in big, bold letters. It substitutes for all symbols except for the Scatter, Fisherman, and Coin symbols.

Wilds only appear on the topmost horizontal reel.

SCATTERS

The Scatter is a bass breaching the water, and you need to hit 3 or more to trigger Free Spins.

  • 3 Scatter symbols = 10 Free Spins.
  • 4 Scatter symbols = 15 Free Spins.
  • 5 Scatter symbols = 20 Free Spins.
  • 6 Scatter symbols = 25 Free Spins.

Scatters land on any reel in the base game and Free Spins.

FISH MONEY SYMBOLS

Fish Money symbols carry a 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, or 5,000x your current bet prize. They appear in the base game, Bonus game, and Free Spins.

Their prize is only awarded when they’re collected by a Fisherman symbol. If they appear on the reels in the base game on a winning pay way they act like regular symbols regardless of their cash award.

  • 3 symbols = 4x your current bet.
  • 4 symbols = 8x your current bet.
  • 5 symbols = 12x your current bet.
  • 6 symbols = 30x your current bet.

Winning Fish symbols will disappear, and new symbols will take their place in the base game.

During Free Spins, however, they don’t disappear and will simply drop to the bottom of the reel until symbols finish cascading and a new spin occurs.

MYSTERY SYMBOLS

Old oil lanterns are Mystery symbols that land randomly in the base game, Bonus Game and Free Spins.

In the base game, all Mystery symbols transform into the same paying symbol.

During Free Spins, however, if a Fisherman symbol is present on the reels and no Fish Money symbols are present, it will transform into any random paying symbol.

COIN SYMBOLS

Coin symbols appear in any position, with the exception of the topmost horizontal reel.

Coin symbols can carry a random value of 1x to 12x, 14x, 16x, 18x, 20x, 22x, 25x, or 30x your current bet.

If three or more Coin symbols hit anywhere on the reels, they trigger the Bonus Game.

FREE SPINS

The Fisherman symbol is the same bearded fish killer we’ve seen in every other Big Bass title. It only appears during Free Spins and can hit on any reel except the topmost horizontal reel.

The Fisherman symbol collects all the values from the Fish Money symbols present on the reels.

If more than one Fisherman symbol hits, it collects every Fish Money symbol and any subsequent Fish Money symbol that lands as a result of cascading and awards their total at the end of a spin.

Also, every Fisherman symbol that lands, regardless of collecting any prizes, is collected in a meter to the right of the reels.

Every 4th Fisherman symbol retriggers 10 additional Free Spins that are played after your current Free Spins with the Fisherman symbol multiplier.

  • On the first retrigger, the Fisherman symbol multiplier is 2x.
  • Second retrigger: the Fisherman symbol multiplier is 3x.
  • On the third retrigger, the Fisherman symbol multiplier jumps to 10x.
  • Every retrigger from 4th on jumps up 10x.

You can also retrigger Free Spins until you reach the game’s max payout, at which point you’re awarded your prize and sent back to the base game, but €400,000 is added to your bank balance.

If a Fisherman symbol lands and no Fish Money symbols are on the reels, the game may place random Fish Money symbols to be collected.

BONUS GAME

When the Bonus Game starts, the triggering Coin symbols are sticky until the end of the feature and contribute to your final prize.

You start the Bonus Game with 3 Re-spins. Every subsequent Coin symbol that hits resets the Re-spins to 3 and contributes to the final prize, but it is not sticky, and the positions spin every Re-spin.

During the Bonus Game, Diamond Money symbols are added to the reels, which award 50x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 500x, 1,000x, or 2,000x your current bet.

You’re guaranteed at least 20x your current bet during the Bonus Game. So if you don’t achieve this payout amount, the game will automatically award 3 additional Re-spins.

The Bonus Game ends when you run out of Re-spins and are awarded the collected prize amount.

BUY BONUS

If you’re anything like me, then you’ll want to skip that base game rigmarole and get down to business.

You can trigger between 3 and 6 Scatter symbols to land on your next spin and be awarded the corresponding number of Free Spins for 100x your current bet.

Or if you’re feeling especially lucky, you can instantly trigger the Bonus Game for 120x your current bet, and between 3 and 6 Coin symbols will land on the next spin.

Performance

I tested Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways slot thoroughly on my Windows laptop and Android phone and found no bugs or glitches.

Maximum Win

Bets range from €0.20 to €20. This slot offers a maximum multiplier of 20,000x, potentially awarding €400,000.

Conclusion

Pragmatic Play has added another Big Bass title to their long list of fishing-themed games with Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways slot.

The graphics haven’t changed, but the gameplay certainly has. Symbols vary in size, and there are payways instead of paylines.

There are Fish symbols that carry prizes throughout the game, but they payout more often during Free Spins.

You can trigger between 10 and 25 Free Spins, depending on how many Scatter symbols you land.

During Free Spins Fisherman symbols are collected, and for every 3 collected, you’re awarded 10 additional Free Spins and up to a 10x win multiplier!

There’s also a Bonus Game this time around, which is triggered by Coin symbols. The triggering symbols are the only sticky symbols for the duration of the feature.

During the Bonus Game, you’ll also find Diamond Money symbols that reward massive prizes when they hit.

And best of all, the Free Spins and Bonus Game are both offered as Buy Bonuses.

If you were a fan of the previous Big Bass titles, then you’re going to love Big Bass Hold & Spinner Megaways slot. And if you didn’t like them, give this one a spin. I suspect it will convert any player.
