Book of Magic Slot Review
Full disclosure, this review might be a bit biased. Not for any other reason than that, I am completely and utterly obsessed with magic. I remember the first time I learned about magic - I was six years old, sitting in my fluffy onesie pajamas and watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch for the very first time. It all seemed too good to be true. I had so many ideas about what I was going to do once my powers came in at age 13 - the right age for any aspiring young witch. I’d magic away my homework, my frizzy hair, and my peers' memory of the time I wet myself in front of my kindergarten class. No more problems for me! However, as I grew older I realized that magic actually seemed kind of dangerous - I can thank JK Rowling and the Harry Potter novels for that. You mean magic comes with responsibilities? No thanks! I just wanted to be a high-flying witch with good hair and a bad attitude.
Gameplay
Book of Magic is a 5-reel, 20-payline video slot powered by software from Amusnet Games. This game has a seriously magical touch to it. Everything from the symbols, to the graphics, to the soundtrack seem to have been shaped by something supernatural. It really is that good. I also have to commend EGT for sticking to the theme when it comes to Book of Magic’s gameplay - this wannabe witch found that all the symbols really enhanced the overall feel of the game. Much like many other slots, Book of Magic features a wild symbol, represented by a thick, magical, leather book. Other supernatural artifacts, such as the Scatter symbol - represented by a crystal ball, make up the rest of the symbols which include a wizard, a witch, a wand, a crystal butterfly, an enchanted trunk, a yellow ‘A,’ an orange ‘K,’ and a blue ‘J.’ The controls are fairly simple, but I’ll run through them just in case you’ve had a memory loss spell put on you. To spin the reels, all you have to do is click on your desired bet which will act as a ‘start’ button. Alternatively, you can click on the ‘spin’ control on the far right of the reels or access Auto Play by going into settings. On the bottom left of the reels, you’ll find your balance, while on the bottom right you’ll see your wins. To set your coin value and your bet, you”ll have to click on the buttons below the reels. The minimum coin value is 1, while the maximum is 3, with bets ranging from 100 - 1500.
Features
I’m not going to lie, the Scatter feature for this slot is pretty magical. If you land three or more Scatters, you’ll trigger 15 Free Spins at a x3 multiplier. They can also be re-triggered, which will award you with an additional 15 spins on top of your current number of Free Spins. Not too shabby in my humble opinion. The Wild feature can also release some otherworldly rewards. Landing 5 Wilds on an active payline will win you a massive, 10 000 coin Jackpot - enough to run away and pursue your passion as a magician's assistant.
Unique Features
Book of Magic has a Jackpot Cards Mystery feature, which is randomly triggered when any Jackpot Cards stamped game is played. There are four magical mystery jackpots which are represented by clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades. It’s up to you to divine 3 matching suits from the pack of 12 face-down cards to win the respective jackpot. Bring out your crystal ball for this one folks, you’re going to need it. Book of Magic also has a Gamble featureThis feature allows you to gamble your current winnings. It usually takes the form of guessing what color and/or suit a facedown card will reveal itself to be. A correct guess on the color pays 2x, while a correct guess of the color and suit pays 4x your bet. which will allow you to increase your playing sum. All you have to do is guess whether the next card in the card flip will be red or black. Answer correctly, and you’ll have a few more coins and your disposal, but get it wrong, and you’ll be sent back to the base game empty-handed.
Performance
EGT must have waved their wand over Book of Magic because its performance is something supernatural. The graphics are incredible, with colors so bright the magic artifacts look like they’re about to jump out of the screen curse you. The sound is simple, but fitting, with music I can really only describe as ‘sparkly’ (don’t ask) being used to signal the landing of a Wild. It performed well on all of my devices, but was slightly shaky on my mobile phone - probably because I was riding my broomstick at the time. Remember everybody, don’t text and fly!
Conclusion
EGT managed to bring back some of the youthful joy I used to feel about magic, and that’s no small feat. Maybe you’re a witchy-wannabe like me, or perhaps you just like playing slots - not matter the theme - either way you’re sure to be put in a trance by Book of Magic so just surrender yourself to it.
