If you’ve read any of the other reviews for buffalo-themed slots on our site, you’re probably aware of my esteemed colleague's gripe with our game providers.

See, buffalo aren’t technically indigenous to the continental United States – those are bison. You’ll only find buffalo in Africa and Asia unless they’ve been imported (for whatever reason).

And while I’ll admit that it’s a little frustrating that game studios can’t get this right (come on now), I couldn’t really give a rat’s ass about buffaloes. Like, they’re fine, but I’m not particularly invested in their life story.

So did GameArt get it right with their new Buffaloes Duel slot? Obviously not, but we’re going to give it a shot anyway.

Gameplay

I had some hope that this slot would be set in Africa, but we’re definitely in the US. If the wildlife on the reels didn’t give it away, then the honky tonk Western music did.

Talk about a shock to the system – that’s one hell of a loud soundtrack! It blasted out of my MacBook’s speakers with force, making me practically fall out of my chair.

Anyway, it’s less affronting if you play on mobile (or if you just turn the volume down, that’s an option too). Buffaloes Duel slot is totally optimized for mobile gameplay, and the reels look pretty solid on a smaller screen.

Looking at the stats, Buffaloes Duel slot has a 96% RTP and a very high volatility rate (hang on tight). The maximum win is generous, sitting at €174,075 – although I would typically expect more from a slot with very high volatility.

Features

WILD

The Wild symbol is represented by the buffalo (which should be a bison), and it can substitute for all symbols except the coin Scatter.

FREE SPINS

Landing 6, 8, or 10 Scatters will trigger 10, 15, or 25 Free Spins, respectively. Free Spins play out on a different set of reels, and this feature can be re-triggered an unlimited number of times.

MIRRORED REELS

Each column has two reels with 2 visible positions, with both containing exactly the same symbol, in the opposite order, and spinning in the opposite direction.

The top symbol on the top reel will always mirror the bottom symbol on the bottom reel (that’s quite the mouthful).

CLASH

When the Wild lands on the bottom position of the top reel, it’ll also appear on the top position of the bottom reel. This creates a “Clash,” triggering a multiplier.

There can be more than one Clash in one round, which will determine the multiplier you receive:

One Clash: 2x
Two Clashes: 4x
Three Clashes: 6x
Four Clashes: 8x
Five Clashes: 10x

Buffaloes Duel slot delivered a mighty fine performance on both my mobile and desktop devices. It’s also compatible with any browser, so go wild.

To clinch the top payout of €174,075, you need to set your bet to the max and land the 2,321x multiplier.

Conclusion

Bison-buffalo conflict aside, Buffaloes Duel slot is actually pretty fun. There are some nice extra features here, and although they’re not particularly complex they do make the slot entertaining.

Still, I feel like the trade-off between a high volatility rate and the disarmingly low max win makes things tricky. Is it worth it? You be the judge.
