Candy Roll Slot Review

There have been some monumental marketing failures in recent times. One of these was the Pepsi-Black Lives Matter-Kendall Jenner campaign, which was ridiculed to such a degree that PepsiCo president Brad Jakeman later stepped down. 📉

Here’s an example of something that could have been a disaster but was narrowly averted. Candy Corn 🌽, that much-loved Halloween 🎃 favorite, was originally called “Chicken Feed.” I’m sure that would’ve sold like hotcakes. 🐓

Next up, we have a game called Candy Roll slot. Let’s see if Playtech can reel us in and keep us interested. 🎰🍭

Gameplay

The candy theme must be a favorite among studios because it doesn’t take much to design. A few sweets scattered around and some lollipop trees and you’re good to go. And that’s pretty much the case here.

Above the 5-reel grid are some Jackpots – the Mini pays 10x, the Minor pays 25x, the Major pays 100x, and the Grand pays 500x your bet. Keep reading to find out how you can win these.

There’s a lot to get through so I’ll try to focus, for once, and not write a whole bunch of drivel that you have to wade through to get to the tasty information. Here goes.

PaylinesPaylines are preset lines that run across the reels, and when you land matching symbols on them, that will result in a payout. The more paylines, the more ways you can win, but also the higher your bet per spin. – there are 30 of them. The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 95.43%
, the volatility rate hovers between medium and high, and the potential payout is $206,560. As for the max multiplier, that’s 10,328x.

The only currency the game allows is fiat moolah (boo!).

Now it’s symbol time. The Card symbol (it has a question mark on it) reveals a random symbol during the Bonus game (they stay unrevealed during the base game). You’ll also need them to trigger the Sweet Road bonus feature.

Wilds replace all symbols other than Free Spin Scatters, Bonus, and Card symbols. You’ll see Wilds on reels 2 to 5.

Features

SWEET ROAD BONUS ROUND:

Candy Roll Bonus symbols on reels 1 and/or 5 are what you’ll need, along with 1 or more Card symbols, to kick-start this round.

And by the way, if a Bonus symbol lands on reel 5 but doesn’t quite make it perfectly onto the reels, it could nudge back and by doing so, it’ll activate the Sweet Road Bonus.

Every Bonus symbol will collect all of the visible Cards at the start of the round, and the Cards will reveal their symbols.

You’ll play on a grid with 24 positions and there are 4 special spots with a question mark. Landing on one of these means you’ll get a new Card.

And by “landing,” I mean that you’ll be throwing dice and moving the same number of spots as you throw. If you land on a position with a multiplier, that value will be collected in a meter. However, the round will end if you land on a Red X.

If you roll the dice and hit a double (1+1, 2+2, etc), 4 things could happen:

  • If you land on a position with a multiplier, its value will be collected twice
  • If you land on a position with a “?”, its value will also be collected twice
  • If you land on a position with a candy prize, the value will only be collected once
  • If you land on a position with a Red X, the feature ends, as usual

The Sweet Road round has a bunch of modifiers:

This Life Card can be used when you land on a Red X. Instead of being exited from the round, it will grant you an extra life.

The Collect Remover Card will transform a random Red X position into a 1x multiplier.

The Cash Spreader Card will distribute multipliers across some random positions (as long as they already have a multiplier).

The Double Win Card doubles the multipliers that have been collected.

The Candy Prize Card adds a Candy symbol to some random positions that already have multipliers. It can also trigger a spin that grants one of the Jackpots.

When collected, the Trail Collect Card allows you to grab all multiplier prizes on your next die roll. Only the last position you land on will turn into a Red X.

Advance to Super Sweet Road Card: this one will do what it says on the tin when you collect it.

The Sweet Cash Card grants a random number of multipliers, which will be collected.

The Doubler Card picks a random position on the board and doubles its multipliers.

The Fairy Walk Card allows you to not transform positions into Red X’s for the next 3 rolls of the die. Landing on a position with a multiplier of Candy Prize means you can collect them and their positions will transform into a 1x multiplier.

Candy prizes can award one of these lesser Jackpot prizes: the Mini pays up to 5x, the Minor pays up to 3x, the Major pays up to 3x, and the Grand... well, the game doesn’t list it and I couldn’t trigger that one, so who knows?

Super Sweet Road:

You’ll see a Donut during the Bonus round I just described. That position is locked but landing on it will unlock it. land on it a second time and you’ll enter the Super Sweet Road feature.

The Road has 8 positions and once again you’ll roll a die to advance based on your results.

Landing on any standard position will transform it into a Red X, and if you land on a Red X, you’ll be kicked out of this round (but straight back into the Sweet Road Bonus round). You will be able to re-enter this round, though, by doing what I described at the start.

Any collected prizes will transform into a 1x multiplier, and you’ll be paid the sum of all the multipliers x your bet.

FREE SPINS:

Trigger this round – and be awarded 8 spins – by landing 3 Scatters across reels 2 to 4. Wild symbols that land on reels 2 to 4 will now stack across an entire reel.

Performance

I had some issues during testing. The game wouldn’t load at all – on either my desktop or phone – when I tried to play the game on Safari. Chrome sometimes worked fine, but I still got the “Connection Lost” error on occasion.

It might have been my WiFi or something on my end, but check to make sure that it plays OK for you.

Maximum Win

You can bet from $0.10 to $20, and combining the latter with the 10,328x multiplier results in a win worth $206,560.

Conclusion

I’ll try to keep my horrendous connection issues out of my assessment of the game, so here goes. Goddamn, that’s a complicated game with a lot of elements! Newbies: stay away.

If you’re well versed in the way of slots, and you’re drawn by the challenge that Candy Roll slot presents, along with the solid stats, then I say have at it.

Playtech doesn’t venture much into the sweet-themed game territory, but there’s a horde of other providers that have come up with options if the current game doesn’t do it for you.

Sweetopia Royale slot springs to mind. It offers a bit more cash (almost 50 grand more, but with less than half the multiplier), and it’s also got a lot of moving parts – Free Spins, Cluster Wins, Random Features, re-spins, levels that you can upgrade to, and a Buy Bonus.

So, if you’re into complications and a sweet theme, you’ve got options.
