Cultist Slot Review
H.P. Lovecraft invented an entire cosmology of ancient, unknowable horrors 🧟♂️ and wrote about them obsessively from a rented room in Providence, Rhode Island. He died broke, largely unrecognized, and convinced the universe was indifferent to human suffering.
Dark libraries, tentacled gods, rituals that end badly for everyone involved is fertile ground for a slot theme. This is Cultist slot by Popiplay.
Gameplay
A barely candlelit library straight out of a gothic horror novel, with a Cthulhu statuette on the desk and a portrait of some stern Victorian gentleman watching from the wall. Whether that's Lovecraft himself or just a disapproving ancestor is unclear, but the atmosphere fits the bill.
The game plays out on a 5-reel, 5-row grid without frames. High-paying symbols are a glowing Tentacle, a red Cthulhu Tome, followed by a Multi-Mouthed Creature, a Purple Flower, and a Green Lizard. Card royals (A, K, Q, J, 10) fill the lower end.
A Buy Bonus is located in the bottom-left corner, ready to be clicked.
The stats behind all of this: 15 paylines, a 97.14% RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate., high volatility, a 10,000x max multiplier, and a $400,000 max win. All currencies are accepted.
Features
WILD MULTIPLIER
The Wild carries a 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x multiplier, and substitutes for everything except Scatters. Nothing complicated about it, but a 10x Wild landing on the right payline can make a big difference.
FREE SPINS
Three Scatters kick off the Free Spins round, which actually runs as a Hold and WinThis feature plays out on a new screen. Typically, you get 3 re-spins (which could be re-triggered), and the triggering symbols usually stick to the position on which they land. Your objective is to land as many symbols as possible on the grid (you could land blank tiles, too). rather than a fixed spin count. You start with 3 spins, and any time a Tentacle symbol or an Opening Reel symbol lands, the counter resets back to 3.
The round continues until 3 consecutive non-winning spins occur.

Each row on the grid has its own Bonus Counter displayed to the left. These counters are what determine your final payout. At the end of the round, every counter is added together and the total is multiplied by your bet.
Focus on what symbols land, since the feed those counters:
- Blue Tentacle (values +1, +2, +5, +10, or +20) - Adds its value to the counter of the row it landed on.
- Green Tentacle (+1, +2, +5, +10, or +20) - adds its value to every row's counter simultaneously.
- Purple Tentacle (2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, or 20x) - Applies the multiplier to the current counter of the row it landed on.
- Red Tentacle (2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, or 20x) - Multiplies every row's counter at once.
Symbols are applied in order from left to right, top to bottom, and the sequencing actually matters. A Green Tentacle adding value before a Red Tentacle multiplies is a very different outcome to those arriving in reverse order.

OPENING REEL
The Opening Reel symbol only appears during the Free Spins round and can land up to twice per game. Every time it does, one reel is added to both the left and right sides of the grid, expanding it from 5x5 all the way to 5x7.
More reels means more positions for Tentacle symbols to land, and more counters to fill.
BUY BONUS
Players can pay 125x in the Buy Bonus and head straight to Free Spins.
Performance
I didn’t experience any issues while playing the game.
Max Win
Players can bet anywhere from $0.20 to $40. Make sure to hit the 10,000x max multiplier while betting the full $40 to score the $400,000 max win.
Conclusion
This game doesn't really get going until the Free Spins. The base game has enough in it to stay interesting, Wild Multipliers landing with 10x attached to a decent line win will keep you from falling asleep, but the Bonus Counters are where the math actually opens up.
Once you're in the Bonus round, what you're really watching is a numbers game playing out row by row. Every Blue or Green Tentacle that lands is money going into a pot. Every Purple or Red Tentacle is that pot getting bigger, sometimes much bigger.
The order things arrive in genuinely changes the outcome, which is a bit unusual for a slot and makes the feature feel less like watching a fruit machine and more like watching someone do maths at speed.
The sequencing angle is worth sitting with for a second. A Green Tentacle showing up before a Red one means the multiplier hits a higher base. The same symbols in reverse order and the result is noticeably smaller.
It's the kind of detail that most players won't think about consciously but will feel in the numbers.
The Opening Reel expansion is the feature's other lever. Two expansions, the grid goes from 5x5 to 5x7, and suddenly there are 14 more positions for Tentacles to land on. A round that gets both early is a very different animal to one that gets neither.
The Buy Bonus at 125x sits in reasonable territory. You're paying a fair price to skip the queue, and the math behind the game isn't working against you as hard as it does in most high-volatility slots.
