Cygnus 6 Slot Review
I was actually into star ⭐ constellations for a while as a kid. I’m talking library books and deep dives into Greek mythology and how gods, monsters, and tragic heroes somehow ended up immortalized in the night sky. Yes, this was pre-YouTube, which officially dates me.
Those stories stuck, though. So when Cygnus 6 Slot from ELK Studios popped up, it immediately poked that part of my brain that still remembers flipping through constellation charts and pretending I knew what I was looking at. 🤓
Whether this trip back to the stars lives up to those memories is another question entirely. 🤷🏻
Gameplay
We’re heading to Machu Picchu for the latest installment of Cygnus and as always with games in this series, the graphics are at an elite level.
Under the starlit sky, two massive pillars (one showing multipliers, the other star constellations) anchor the 6-reel, 4-row grid, while multiple Inca structures can be seen in the area. It’s the kind of mysterious location you’d expect to see in the next Uncharted.
Three different colored gems are low-paying symbols, while the high-paying versions are a bird, a snake, a jaguar, and a sun. The Wild substitutes for all of the above-mentioned symbols.
This game uses CascadeOtherwise known as a Tumble, Avalanche, or whatever a studio sees fit to name it. The idea is the same, though; winning symbols get removed, and new ones take their place. This action could result in additional wins, in which case the action continues. mechanics, replacing all symbols involved in a win with new ones. Each new drop also adds an additional row, up to a maximum of 8. This increases the number of paylines, which starts at 4,096 ways for the default 4 rows.
- 5 Rows - 15,625 ways
- 6 Rows - 46,656 ways
- 7 Rows - 117,649 ways
- 8 Rows - 262,144 ways
All symbols are round, which allows them to roll and shift left depending on the grid structure.
As always with ELK Studios, the X-iter feature is available and located to the left on your screen.
The stats are as follows: a 94% RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate., a high volatility rate, a 5,000x max multiplier, and a $20,000 max win. Please note that only fiat currency is accepted.
Features
SPECIAL SYMBOLS
There are a few more symbols to pay extra attention to:
- Multiplier - The white X symbol is the multiplier. Once it reaches the bottom (via cascades) or lands on the first reel, it increases your active multiplier (1x-10x) by one step before transforming into a Wild.
- Star Charger - The Star Charger is a blue orb which is activated when it reaches the bottom. This activates 1-3 stars in the star constellation before turning into a Wild.
- Max Win - When it reaches, or lands, on the first reel, it immediately pays the remaining amount required to reach the max win. If it gets to the bottom of reels 2-6, it’s removed and dropped again, but in one reel closer to the left.
STAR CONSTELLATIONS
The game begins with star constellation 1, which is represented by a Butterfly with 3 stars.
Successfully triggering the Starlight feature, Cygnus Realm, or the Bonus game, advances you to the next constellation on the grid. You can see the switch on the right pillar.
- Constellation 2 - Hummingbird (5 stars)
- Constellation 3 - Jaguar (7 stars)
- Constellation 4 - Llama (9 stars)
Once you’ve made your way through them all, your progression resets back to the beginning with the Butterfly.
Each star in a constellation has 3 states: inactive, active, and consumed. Starting as inactive, a star transitions into active state after a symbol in front of it has been part of a winning combination.
Once it’s been part of a Starlight feature, it moves to the Consumed state.
STARLIGHT
When two or more stars within the current constellation are in the active state at the end of a cascade, the Starlight feature is triggered. All symbols along one or more constellation lines are then transformed into the same symbol.
Upon activation, all active stars immediately transition to consumed state, and the involved stars can no longer contribute to a new Starlight feature in the same round.
CYGNUS REALM
Once all constellation stars are activated or consumed, it triggers the Cygnus Realm feature, which is played on a 6x8 grid.
The Cygnus Realm has 3 symbols: Blocker, Mystery, and the Premium Mystery symbol.
You’re awarded 3 Cygnus drops, and all symbols in front of stars of a constellation are transformed into Mystery symbols. Landing a Premium Mystery symbol resets your count to 3.
In each drop, every Blocker symbol is removed and replaced with either another Blocker, a Mystery, or a Premium Mystery symbol. When there are no more drops left, all Mystery and Premium Mystery symbols become the same random symbol. This is the end of the feature.
BONUS GAME
When a Bonus symbol reaches the first reel the Bonus game is triggered and you’re awarded 7 Bonus drops. Any active multiplier you may have will come along and doesn’t reset.
The feature is re-triggered and you’re given another 3 drops if a Bonus symbol makes it to the first reel.
Each Bonus drop starts with a number of rows corresponding to the current safety level, with the first drop set at 4 rows. With each drop, the level increases by 1 row up to a maximum of 8 in total.
X-ITER BUY BONUS
Clicking the X-iter button gives you the following options:
- Bonus Hunt (2.5x) - Gives you a 3x higher chance of triggering the Bonus game
- Mega Bonus Hunt (5x) - Play with a 6x higher chance of triggering the Bonus game
- Cosmic Spins (50x) - Your spin has a random multiplier (1x-10x) and is played on a full 8-row grid
- Bonus Game (100x) - Trigger the regular Bonus game
- Shooting Stars (500x) - Guarantees triggering the Cygnus Realm feature with a random multiplier and constellations. All collected constellation stars are mystery symbols.
Performance
Sticking to the theme, I can say that all the stars aligned while playing the game.
Max Win
Players can bet anywhere from $0.20 to $4. To secure the $20,000 max win, hit the 5,000x max multiplier on a $4 bet.
Conclusion
Clearly ELK Studios expects you to work for the wins with this one. The hit rate sits around 29%, and don’t expect wins to be thrown your way just to keep you entertained.
Like with any other game, there will be dry spells, and sometimes they feel long, but that’s the price of admission for a slot built around buildup and payoff rather than instant gratification.
When things start lining up, though, the game actually feels pretty clever. Starlight triggers can completely flip a spin, Cygnus Realm is a solid momentum boost, and carrying multipliers into the Bonus game gives you a real shot at something meaningful instead of just noise.
As for the X-iter buys, the best bang for your buck is the Bonus Hunt or Mega Bonus Hunt. They’re ideal for players who want better odds at seeing features without lighting their bankroll on fire.
The Bonus Game buy is the cleanest option overall. Straight into the main feature, reasonable risk, and probably the best choice for most players.
The Shooting Stars is pure chaos. Guaranteed Cygnus Realm with random multipliers sounds great, and it can absolutely slap, but it’s only worth touching if you’re comfortable with brutal swings and the very real chance of getting nothing back.
Cygnus 6 slot rewards patience more than luck. It’s great if you enjoy watching systems build and waiting for that one spin where everything finally clicks. If you’re just looking to spin, relax, and collect steady wins, this one will probably test your nerves pretty quickly.
