Dark Queen Slot Review
Cersei Lannister, Catherine the Great, and the Red Queen from Lewis Carrol’s Alice in Wonderland are all excellent examples of queens that have gone over to the dark side. Granted, only one out of those three ever actually existed, but she wore a dried out foreskin as a ring so she may have even been the worst out of the lot. Blood hungry, money-grubbing felons these women were, but they all had exquisite taste in clothes. I don’t think it’s necessarily a good idea to idolize these admittedly insane matriarchs, but you kind of have to admire their tenacity and their staunch push for power in what would have been a very male-dominated world. Nowadays, I don’t think any of us would be thrilled to hear about old Queen Liz, wearing a ring made of somebody else’s crown jewels, so those nasty ladies are probably best left where they belong, in the past.
Gameplay
Dark Queen is a Snow White-themed, 5-reel and 20-payline slot powered by software from EGT Interactive. This is a fun one kids, so let’s get into it. As you’d expect, the symbols are all based on the story of Snow White and her adventures with her evil step-mother and some friendly dwarves. The game’s Wilds are symbolized by a Magic Mirror (“mirror, mirror on the wall, will I ever beat this game and win it all?”), with the other being represented by a poison apple, Delish! Other symbols include Snow White, the Dark Queen - her step-mother, a Dwarf, a squirrel, what looks like Robin Hood’s hat (slightly off-brand), a big ol’ bag of gems, and playing cards ranging from Ace to King. The controls are pretty simple, but I’ll go through them because I don’t want Snow White’s step-mom chasing after me with a poison apple if I don’t. Ranging from left to right, they are: Balance, Coin Value, Total Bet and Wins Display. To the right of the reels, in the middle of the page, is the Spin control which will get the reels moving. Simply hold it down if you want to access the Auto Play feature.
Features
Dark Queen is a pretty simple slot. However, it does feature a nice Gamble round which is triggered after a win. Just click on the “Gamble” button and guess whether the next card to be drawn on a card flip will be red or black. Choose correctly, and your win is doubled. However should you get it wrong, the round will end, and you’ll be shipped off back to the base game having lost the originally won sum. Still, you can collect your winnings at any point during the bonus round so if you feel like your luck is running out, simply click the “Collect” button and you’ll be taken back to the base game.
Unique Features
This game also features a randomly triggered bonus, made up of four mystery Jackpots represented by each of the four card suits - clubs, spades, hearts, and diamonds. All you have to do to win is pick from 12 face-down cards until you find 3 from the same suit. You’ll then be awarded accordingly.
Performance
Dark Queen is a beautifully illustrated game, with superb graphics and fairy-tale like symbols that make you want to escape into a fictional world. It performs well on every device, with no lags or delays. The music is reminiscent of the songs you would hear in old Disney movies, triggering a sense of childlike nostalgia.
Conclusion
So, should you play Dark Queen? Well, in my opinion, EGT has crafted something unusual here. If you’re worried that the symbols will jump out of the screen and relieve you of your foreskin, I’d just play with the lights on. Nasty fictional characters tend to conduct their worst business in the dark.
