Devil’s Crossroad Slot Review

It would be impossible to write an intro for this next game – Devil’s Crossroad slot from Nolimit City – without mentioning blues guitarist Robert Johnson. 🎵🎶 I might have mentioned him before, so please excuse any repetition but he is relevant, given the theme of this game.

Legend has it that Johnson met the Devil at a crossroads and swapped his soul in exchange for mastery of the guitar. If we’re following that train of logic, then guitar prodigy Max Ostro certainly followed in Johnson’s famed footsteps – have you seen that dude shred??? 🎸

Johnson also has the questionable honor of being the first person to join the 27 Club – a list of musicians, actors, and celebrities who shuffled off this mortal coil at a very tender age. 🪦

But I digress. It’s time we make our way to the crossroads to meet the charismatic, cloven-hoofed dude who always gets blamed for everything. 😈

Gameplay

There was no way I was passing this game up! Nolimit City is notorious for creating slots with disturbing themes, so I was gagging like an adult actress at the prospect of seeing what they’ve come up with, given the theme of the current game.

I’m not going to waffle on too much in this section but one thing we need to discuss is the unique layout of the grid.

So, while it appears that there are 5 reels, the grid has been divided into 4 quadrants – each of which has 4 symbols. And you’ll notice that old Louie Cypher takes pride of place in the middle.

The payline system is called Crosslink Wins, and winning symbols are removed so that new symbols can fill their position. Any paying symbol that happens to be next to the Devil can randomly transform into a Wild.

The high-paying symbols represent factions of society that Nolimit City deems destined for the eternal fires: businessmen-slash-evangelists, pop singers, meatheads on ’roids, gamers, and selfie-loving narcissists. These characters represent some of the Deadly Sins.

Stats-wise, there’s a 96.06% RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
, and unsurprisingly, the game boasts an extreme volatility rate. The largest multiplier is 13,180x, while the top payout is a trouser-tent inducing $316,320!

Features

SINFUL SCATTERS:

The goat’s head star Scatters can appear in the center row of a cross-section. When Scatters hit adjacent to the center position, the other symbols in the quadrant become inactive. Symbols of the same type will also be removed – I’ll discuss the upshot of this action below.

UPSIDE-DOWN CROSS-SECTION MULTIPLIERS:

When wins occur, then similar symbols will be removed from the other quadrants if they themselves aren’t part of the winning combo. Each one that gets removed increases the cross-section multiplier by 1x. Wins are boosted by these cross-section multipliers.

REDEMPTION SPINS:

Land 4 Scatters, and you’ll have summoned the Redemption Spins feature, where the grid formation is made up of 5 reels, and there are 5 rows. In addition, there is a special reel above and to the right of the grid – I’ll discuss what these do below the bullet points.

This is a Hold&Win feature – a rarity for Nolimit City, although it does come with a twist – that starts with 3 spins (a heart icon shows you how many you have left) and the spins reset whenever you land a new Coin symbol.

Coins carry a multiplier value and whenever you fill a reel with Coins, you’ll be awarded a modifier for that reel on the subsequent spin. The modifiers are:

  • Gluttony: Adds its value to all landed Coins
  • Wrath: Multiplies a random Coin’s value on the same reel
  • Lust: Upgrades the values you can score in the feature
  • Greed: Selects a random Coin from its reel that will collect all Coin values from that reel
  • Envy: Transforms the value of a random Coin into the highest value you’ll find already on the grid
  • Pride: A random Coin’s value will be added to all other Coins on its reel

I mentioned upgrading values under Lust. You can upgrade the feature by landing 4 Scatters next to the center position in the base game, or by filling the 4 levels in the meter to the right of the grid. The meter is boosted by a level for each Lust modifier you trigger.

Now, during Upgraded Redemption Spins, filling a reel or a row will initiate a modifier. You might also see a Devil Coin land, which will unlock a modifier.

BONUS BUY:

Pay money, get features.

  • Redemption Spins: 80x your bet
  • Upgraded Redemption Spins: 500x your bet
  • 50/50 Lucky Draw: 250x your bet which might get you either of the aforementioned features

Performance

The only issue I had with Devil’s Crossroad slot is that it times out really fast.

Maximum Win

You can bet from $0.20 to $24. A max bet coupled with the largest multiplier in the game – a hefty 13,180x – will reward you with the Devil’s bounty of $316,320.

Conclusion

I make no bones about the fact that I’m a Nolimit City fanboy. But even I have to admit that most of their games have been super complex, which doesn’t make them easy to play.

Devil’s Crossroad slot is an impressive deviation from their regular approach. With only a Hold&Win feature and a smattering of other elements, this is undoubtedly the most user-friendly offering from the contentious studio.

What hasn’t changed is the extreme volatility and the Leviathan-sized top payout. The max multiplier is lower than one tends to see but it’ll still do the job.

You won’t need to sell your soul to the Devil if money’s what you’re after. Simply cross his infernal palm with $24-worth of silver to be in contention for some mega moolah. Hail Lucy! 🤘
