Dragon Reels Slot Review
Ancient China: The land of silk, tea, and lanterns. Dragons: Big lizard things that allegedly breath fire (the jury’s still out). How do those two go together? Well, dragons are a symbol of luck in China, featuring heavily over important cultural occasions. What does that have to do with slots? Not much, usually. However, EGT Interactive has designed a slot, Dragon Reels, specifically based on this tradition. So, I hope you’re a fan of dragons and/or Ancient Chinese culture because this slot is packed full of both of those things.
Gameplay
Dragon Reels is a 5-reel, 25-payline slot powered by software from EGT Interactive. Its theme is based around the symbol of luck in Chinese culture, the Dragon and both of those things feature heavily across the reels. The Scatter is represented by a yellow dragon layered over a Yin Yang, and a rather scary looking Lucky Dragon mask represents the Wild. Other symbols include a lantern, ceremonial drums, a stern-looking Chinese emperor and his female counterpart, incense, and basic playing cards from 9 to King. Controls are easy to grasp, but I’ll run through them quickly. Directly under the reels, you’ll find the Balance, Coin Credit Level, and total bet, while on the right of the reels is the Spin button. In order to change your bet, coin credit level or to access any of the other controls you’ll have to click on ‘settings” located in the top left of the screen. You can choose to play on 1, 5, 10, 20 or 25 lines and the bets range from 1 to 20. Not too Confucius - I mean, confusing!
Features
Like most EGT slots, Dragon Reels comes with a number of funky features including the well-loved Gamble featureThis feature allows you to gamble your current winnings. It usually takes the form of guessing what color and/or suit a facedown card will reveal itself to be. A correct guess on the color pays 2x, while a correct guess of the color and suit pays 4x your bet.. Triggered after a win, the gamble feature offers you the chance to double your winnings. All you have to do is guess whether the next card to be drawn will be red or black. Get it right, and you’ll double your winnings, but guess wrong, and you’ll be sent back to the base game with nothing to show for your efforts. Bad luck! Also, watch out for the Wilds because although they can increase your chances of winning during gameplay, they can only substitute for other symbols when in base game mode. As soon as you enter a Free Spins round, their hands are pretty much tied.
Unique Features
Dragon Reels offers a pretty powerful Scatter symbol, which can trigger Free Spins. Three or more Scatters trigger 10 Free Spins at a x2 multiplier, which can also be re-triggered. During Free Spins mode, an alternate set of reels is used - don’t ask me why. Watch out for the Jackpot Cards Mystery round. Triggered at random, it is a four-level jackpot with each sum represented by a different card suit, hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds. All you have to do is find three cards from the same suit out of a pick-field of 12. You’ll then be awarded the corresponding jackpot. Pretty damn neat, if I do say so myself.
Performance
There’s nothing particularly special going on here, but I do have to commend EGT for always making a slot that works. The graphics are good, the soundtrack is suitably stereotypical given the theme, and the game performs well on any device. Two thumbs up all around, I’d say.
Conclusion
Dragon Reels achieves what it was made to do - it shows people a good time. It’s nothing fancy but has great gameplay and an all around good feeling. Would I play it again? Hell yeah! I got lucky this time, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll get lucky again.
