Drill that Gold Slot Review

Back in the 1990s, it was thought that the Russians had drilled all the way down to Hell. The Kola Superdeep Borehole is still the deepest hole we’ve ever dug, and it hit a mind-numbing depth of 7.58 miles and registered temperatures of around 356 degrees Fahrenheit!

Now that’s all fair and well, but my kinda digging involves shiny stuff that can make you rich! Luckily, Pragmatic Play thinks along the same lines. Their latest offering is Drill that Gold slot – let’s check it out.

Gameplay

We’re deep in the bowels of the Earth this time as we attempt to dig up a bunch of the shiny stuff. Drill that Gold slot is a stunning place to spend some time as Pragmatic Play has put a lot of effort into making it a feast for the eyes.

For the ears, maybe not so much. It’s the weird choice of soundtrack / ambiance that I’m referring to now – it’s just a little bizarre. Not that I’d know what to choose instead but at least they’ve included some “mining sound effects” to set the scene.

And on the topic of questionable choices, the designers have added a buzzsaw-type thing to the scaffold that frames the grid. A drill I’d understand, but this ain’t that.

Let’s drill down to the stat then, shall we? Starting us off are the bet limits which begin at an easy-on-the-pocket €0.20 and max out at €80. The volatility is high, and that choice will make sense to you when you find out what the max win is: €400,000! I kid you not!

And the last bit of good news is that the RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
comes in at 96.49%. That’s a whole lotta goodness if you ask me!
I wonder if the features will keep the awesomeness train on the rails. One way to find out, I guess…

Features

The Bonus symbol takes the form of a drill, and you’ll can find it on any of the reels. Pull in 3 - 5 of these and you’ll set off the Gold Spins bonus feature.

GOLD SPINS:
3 Bonus symbols = 6 Free Spins
4 Bonus symbols = 8 Free Spins
5 Bonus symbols = 10 Free Spins

During the Free Spins, you’ll see 2 types of drills – a silver and a golden one, respectively. When they appear, you’ll notice that both have dudes climbing up them (that can’t be gonad-friendly) and our digger dude to the right of the grid animates to put the contacts of two electrical wires together.

Again, these design choices are weird for my practical brain to get to grips with but I’m gonna move swiftly along.

Both drills expand but the gold one brings with it a guaranteed cash prize that could be 5x, 10x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x, or even 1,000x your bet!

If you bring in a miner symbol during this Free Spins round, it will nudge up or down to reveal a full stack of miners. After that, the stack will transform into either a silver or gold drill.

Land 2 – 5 Bonus symbols during the Gold Spins feature and score an extra 4, 6, 8, or 10 Free Spins.

DRILL FEATURE:

This happens during the base game whenever there’s a full stack of miners. The upshot is that the miners will turn into a silver drill, which will then expand and turn into a Wild symbol.

That action could see you rewarded with a cash prize worth 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 75x, or 100x of your total bet.

The Wild is one of those cartoonish dynamite things with the plunger. It replaces all symbols other than the Bonus and can also appear on any of the reels.

SPIN MODIFIERS:

Don’t be disappointed if you spin and don’t win – you could still have a chance at triggering a random modifier. That could transform your spin to a win worth at least 10x your total bet.

Failing which, it could also give you enough Bonus symbols to set off the fabled Gold Spins bonus round.

ANTE BET:

See that thing to the left of the grid? With it, you can increase your bet multiplier by 25%. Also, the drills that appear will always be golden ones, with its guaranteed cash prize.

Performance

I tested Drill that Gold slot mercilessly on all my devices and happily, there was nothing to complain about.

Maximum Win

Pragmatic Play weren’t kidding when they based this game on drilling for gold. It offers one of the largest max wins I’ve seen in a while: €400,000!

Conclusion

Drill that Gold slot finds itself competing with mining stalwart Fire in the Hole xBomb slot. Pragmatic’s version is more “traditional” in terms of looks, structure and features, but offers a slightly bigger max win and a not-so-crazy volatility.

It’s a solid game – strange design choices aside – that offers surprisingly good mobile compatibility. If mining games are your thing, then this is definitely one you should take a closer look at.
