Granny vs Zombies Slot Review

I have an older friend whose mom reminds me of the heroine in this next game, Granny vs Zombies slot from Quickfire She’s a firecracker and doesn’t tolerate fools easily. She also drives her Honda Jazz like a maniac, so I can easily imagine her taking a frying pan to a zombie. 🧟‍

In fact, the old girl likes her tipple, too. I’d pay money to see the zombie apocalypse happen, and for that first brain-eater to scratch at her door. The old dear would probably appear, whiskey bottle in hand, swaying ever so slightly, and peering through her bifocals. 👵

And you can be sure she’d bash that “annoying stranger” in the head. I can almost hear her say:

“I kept asking him what he wanted and he wouldn’t answer me. He was making these strange noises so he was either a sexual pervert or a Jehovah’s Witness – either way, he got what was coming to him.”

Gameplay

Just because people get wrinkly, doesn’t mean you can count them out. Some oldies are still full of fire and brimstone, so watch your step or you’ll get a knuckle sandwich.

Granny vs Zombies slot is a colorful affair, with cartoon characters splashed across its 5x4-reel grid. You’ll notice immediately that there are Jackpots up for grabs, but I’ll get into that in the Features section below.

The soundtrack is so not what I was expecting. It’s this electronic, ambient kinda thing that doesn’t match up with the visuals or theme. Not that I care; I mute the sounds anyway but it did seem worth a mention.

Granny vs Zombies slot looks okay on a phone in portrait mode (the Jackpots take us some of the space, along with the game’s title) but landscape mode is definitely preferable.

There are a whole slew of Wilds in this game. The first is a golden one that substitutes for all symbols except the Locknwin Coins and Scatters. Also, when a winning line starts with a Wild, all Wilds will substitute to create the highest-paying combo possible.

Another Wild is our granny, and when she lands, she’ll toss a Molotov cocktail at the nearest Zombie Wild. This results in more Wilds being awarded.

Then there’s the Walking Wild. These can land on reels 3 to 5 and when that happens, the Walking Wild will move one reel to the left on the next spin.

Next up are the weapon symbols, which are also Wilds. These take the form of frying pans, roller pins, meat cleavers, and Molotov cocktails. You’ll only see these during the Free Spins round.

Coin symbols take the form of skulls and award cash prizes ranging from 1x to 12x your bet. Then there’s a Multiplier Coin (it’s a pink “X”), which increases all landed Coins – except Star Coins – by up to 5x, while also awarding a cash prize up to 5x your bet.

The Key Coin unlocks additional rows in the Locknwin feature and awards cash prizes ranging from 1x to 5x your bet. Last up is the Star Coin. This bad boy triggers the Jackpot round at the end of the Locknwin feature.

I’ll bet you’re wondering if this granny-themed game should be steeped in mothballs or if it actually has some balls. It turns out it’s rocking a pendulous pair!

There are 20 paylines, an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
of 96%
, a high volatility rate, and a max win worth €250,000! You’ll need to play using fiat currency; just not Japanese yen, m’kay?

Features

There are 3 Jackpots you can grab – two ways into the Loacknwin jackpot are via the Locknwin feature and the Free Spins round. The third is by triggering the Jackpot Wheel.

LOCKNWIN:

This is the big guns feature of the game and it takes 6 skull Coin symbols in the base game to trigger. At the start, you’ll be awarded 3 re-spins and all symbols will be removed from the grid, except newly-landed Coins. These will become sticky when they land.

The objective is to collect Star Coins, which award Jackpots. When the round begins, you’ll notice that some of the top rows are locked. Landing Key Coins will unlock them and the symbols will nudge up or down if they’re only partially landed.

Landing Coins in the unlocked area results in the re-spin counter being reset. The feature ends either when you run out of re-spins or the reels are full of Coin symbols.

If you’ve unlocked the entire grid and filled it with Coins, that’s when the Mega Jackpot is awarded. As you’ll see from the below, the Mega jackpot pays out 5,000x but that’s not all. After that, you’ll see a disco ball and then you’ll be whisked away to another screen.

Now, you’ll see the various jackpots listed. Next to them are 3 empty Star symbols and the first one you fill will award its respective Jackpot. You can only win one Jackpot per Locknwin Jackpot round.

Jackpots:

  • Mega: 5,000x your bet
  • Major: 500x your bet
  • Minor: 100x your bet
  • Mini: 25x your bet
  • Micro: 15x your bet

FREE SPINS:

Besides getting Free Spins – and who doesn’t like free stuff? – your other objective is to defeat the Disco Zombie. This is the alternative way to trigger the Jackpot round (the other way was mentioned above).

Coming back to the spins, landing 3 Scatters on reels 2, 3, and 4 in the base game kicks this round off. You’ll be faced with a choice:

  • Option 1: 10 Free Spins with a frying pan attack and 1 damage point
  • Option 2: 8 Free Spins with a rolling pin attack and 2 damage points
  • Option 3: 7 Free Spins with a butcher knife attack and 3 damage points
  • Option 4: 6 Free Spins and a Molotov cocktail attack and 4 damage points
And what are those damage points, you ask. Each line win multiplier starts at 1x and is increased by the damage Granny does to the zombies.

Granny will pass to a new level when she reaches 5x, 10x, and 20x, which means more spins for you – the amount will depend on the weapon you’ve chosen.

  • The frying pan awards 5 more spins
  • The rolling pin awards 4 more spins
  • The cleaver awards 3 more spins
  • The Molotov cocktail awards 2 more spins
The funky DISCO ZOMBIE dude will appear from level 2 and he’s defeated after taking 5 damage points. When you’ve bested him, it’ll initiate the Locknwin Jackpot round.

JACKPOT WHEEL:

Filling the progress bar – which happens each time a Coin symbol lands –sets off the Jackpot Wheel. You’ll notice that there are segments on the wheel and that the wheel is divided into 3.

Your objective is to line up the double and triple arrows and get them to point to a Jackpot on the outer rim.

BUY FEATURE;

There are 4 options you can pay for:

  • Option 1 (62.90x your bet): This buys you the Locknwin feature
  • Option 2 (125.02x your bet): This buys you the Free Spins round
  • Option 3 (150x your bet): Buys you a spin on the Jackpot Wheel
  • Option 4 (299.98x your bet): Buys you the Locknwin Jackpot feature
  • ## Performance
In the interests of keeping the rest of this review as short and sweet as possible, I’ll just say that the performance of Granny vs Zombie slot was flawless.

Maximum Win

The max win is €250,000 – courtesy of the 5,000x max multiplier at a bet of €50 (the cap). You can bet from as little as €0.10 if you prefer.

Conclusion

This is an incredible package from Quickfire. It offers 3 ways to get into a Jackpot round, Free Spins and a Buy Bonus option. What more could you ask for?

Look, this is a serious, challenging, and complex game, no matter what the cartoony visuals might have you think. The complexity isn’t overwhelming, there’s just a lot to keep in mind, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be OK.

I definitely wouldn’t recommend Granny vs Zombies slot for newbies – this is a game for pros and semi-pros only. It’s entertaining, rewarding, and innovative and gets a big thumbs up from me.
