Hot Star Slot Review

Amatic is one of the few casino game providers to stake claim to “veteran” status, having been producing games since 1993. The production line for this developer appears to be almost never ending, with Amatic being a high-roller favorite across the board. Joining the mix of Amatic that players can rip through the reels of is Hot Star, which is a game that proves to be old-school through and through.

Hot Star isn’t like other Amatic games, as it isn’t backed by the big bucks, while it still falls into the high volatility bracket. That’s not the only issue facing Hot Star either, as it appears to suffer from all the usual issues that most Amatic games suffer from. As the following review explains, Hot Star never really gets going.

Gameplay

Hot Star doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary with its base game, so if you’ve played other Amatic games like Lucky Zodiac you’ll find the setup to be exactly the same. 10 paylines can be activated across the 5 reels, with the bet scale ranging between 10 coins and 500 coins as per the norm. Hot Star’s biggest issue probably comes about through the fact that it’s the exact same game as other Amatic titles, so while it’s high roller friendly, it isn’t all that exciting to be honest.

Amatic games are usually driven by big-time paytables, with Hot Star not quite living up to what we expected. Covering a small range of symbols, the lowest payout in the game – with a max bet in place – is 1,000 coins for the humble looking cherry. From there, it’s a case of fruit, fruit, and more fruit, lemons payout 2,000 coins, plums and grapes payout 3,000 coins, and melons payout 4,000 coins. The biggest payout comes about through the retro-styled 7s, as they can lead you to a tasty 12,500 coins.

Features

Hot Star has a pretty bland base game, with the bonus features following the same track. The wild symbol is the Wild Star, with it functioning in the exact same fashion as in other Amatic titles. When a Wild Star lands on the reels. it will instantly transform each neighboring symbol into an additional wild. Plus, if it takes up either a corner spot or a center spot on the reels, it’ll give you a block of wilds to work with, which can light a fire under Hot Star for sure.

There are no free spins in Hot Star, while the game is missing a bonus round as well. The only added extra – if we can call it that – is the gamble feature. No explanation needed, this simple game of guess the card can double or quadruple your payout, but it isn’t likely to win any awards for originality.

Max Win

Whenever we play an Amatic game, we expect it to serve up a bank-busting max win. Hot Star doesn’t even come close to living up to what we expected, as the top prize – especially when compared to other Amatic releases – is woeful. Standing at just 12,500 coins, it’s a top prize that really compounds Hot Star as a poor-quality outing from this game provider.

Performance

Amatic is never-going to win any prizes for “best dressed” in the world of online slots, as most its games look poorly thrown together. We didn’t exactly expect Hot Star to change that reputation and it hasn’t done. Through basic graphics, bland symbols, and stock animations, Hot Star looks highly forgettable. One can wonder what Amatic would be capable if they actually hired a decent game design team, as anything good within Hot Star is underdone by its poor-quality visuals.

Conclusion

Hot Star doesn’t have much going for it, as it probably represents one of Amatic’s worst games to date. Copying practically every other low-level Amatic game with its base game and bonus features, this game doesn’t even have a stacked jackpot to fall back on. Amatic like to follow a pretty basic formula with the games they release, but this approach has truly come unstuck in Hot Star. In our opinion, Hot Star represents a game to avoid, as it doesn’t deliver anywhere near enough action to make it worth playing.
