Howling Wolves Megaways Slot Review

You’re expecting that this intro will be all about real wolves, or werewolves, but no! I’m going to talk about a Blues man named Chester Arthur Burnett – better known to his fans as Howlin’ Wolf.

This was a man with heart and a deep love for music. Even though he was suffering from kidney disease and had had several heart attacks, he wasn’t going to let that get in the way of his final concert.

The Wolf was so into his gig that he even crawled around the stage during the song Crawling King Snake! When he was done, and after his 5-minute ovation, a team of paramedics had to be called in to revive Burnett.

Now that’s what you call commitment.

Let’s see if Booming Games has invested the same amount of passion and dedication in their latest offering, Howling Wolves Megaways slot.

Gameplay

I’m going to get this out of the way so I can move on: I’m not a big fan of the design. It looks like the stuff you’d see on a Harley-Davidson T-shirt. And not in a good way.

And, if my eagle-eye hasn’t failed me, that looks like a Strelitzia flower. South Africa is the only place you’ll find these plants and we ain’t got no wolves here or Indigenous people of the Americas.

The soundtrack just doesn’t seem right to me either. It’s trying to tie in with the teepees and drums and other elements on the reels, but it’s too much pan pipes, I reckon.

Look, there is a nice intro segment, with the forest and the twin howling wolves, but that’s all I’m prepared to give.

I suppose it looks marginally better on a mobile phone, but that’s only because the graphics are smaller. What I don’t like when looking at this game on a phone is that the SPIN button is on the right of the screen in vertical mode – what if you’re left-handed? It just looks wrong.

On the plus side though, we have a 96% RTP and a high volatility – which might be good or bad, depending on your proclivities. Another nice element is that the bet limits are broad, starting at €0.10 and going up to €100.

Features

I started the betting at 10 credits and this is how it went. Ten spins in and I was down by 49 credits, and I took a further hit of 40 credits over the next 10 spins.

The third set of 10 spins saw me hemorrhage a further 90. So I lost a total of 179 over the course of 30 spins. The next 20 or so spins saw my luck turn, but only slightly.

The biggest win I landed was 87 credits, and I also nailed an Alpha Wolf spin. This converts all of the major symbols into the highest-paying wolf one after the reels have come to rest.

As you play this game, you’ll see that it has a Cascade feature, meaning that winning symbols are removed to make space for new ones (and new win combos).

This game offers Free Spins and you’ll grab 8 of these once you land 4 Scatters. For each additional Scatter, you’ll be awarded another 2 Free Spins with a cap of 30 Free Spins possible.

Next up is what’s known as the Howling Wilds. With this, a random number of Wilds make their appearance while the reels are spinning.

Wolf Pack Multipliers multiply your initial win by 3x to 5x, depending on how many wolves appear during the feature. And after a cascade, the multiplier will increase by 1.

Lastly, the Max Megaways mechanism brings in the 117,649 ways to win.

Performance

Booming Games are produced using HTML5 technology. That means they should work seamlessly across all platforms and devices. And I can confirm that this is the case; there were no problems during testing.

Max Win

Howling Wolves Megaways slot offers a healthy €216,800 max win. Strangely, it only comes with a 2,168x multiplier which is low for a Megaways game.

Conclusion

Booming Games took an older game – Howling Wolves slot – and tweaked the design ever so slightly, while adding a Megaways mechanism that they licensed from Big Time Gaming.

Even the features are pretty much the same, so it’s not the greatest way to get into the Megaways arena.

The features themselves aren’t particularly thrilling, and as far as Megaways slots go, there are others that do the job better.

So sadly, it doesn’t exhibit the same kinda passion and all-in commitment of the other Howlin’ Wolf. This one is more on the mediocre side.
