Jane Hunter and the Mask of Montezuma Slot Review
Some historical figures have cool names that don’t have any deeper meaning, but then you get the likes of Montezuma – his name translates into “Angry Like a Lord.”
Considered a god by his people, Montezuma certainly lived the high life. His crib boasted hanging gardens, a 10-room aviary, and even a zoo with jaguars, eagles, pumas, foxes, and snakes as captives.
Monty, as I like to call him, was waited on by 3,000 attendants and had a thing for little people, people with albinism, and hunchbacks. He kept some of these poor folk in special chambers in his palace. Oh, and Monty rocked golden sandals; how badass is that?
Now that we know a little about the man whose name is included in the title of Pragmatic Play’s latest offering – Jane Hunter and the Mask of Montezuma slot – let’s get down to business, shall we?
Gameplay
Pyramids, vine-choked jungles, treasures, and adventure are the stock in trade of our redheaded adventurer, Jane Hunter. She’s on a mission to make us wealthy so who are we to stand in her way?
The high-paying symbols you’ll see on the 5x3-reel grid are binoculars, pickaxes and spades, satchels, and of course, Jane.
The Scatter is a pyramid; you’ll see this symbol on all the reels. Landing 2 Scatters pays 1x your total bet. The Wild is a mask that replaces all symbols other than the Scatter and Bonus ones. Wilds can also appear anywhere.
If you’re someone who prefers playing on your phone, then I’d suggest flipping your device onto landscape mode for this game. Viewing it in portrait mode sees the reels shrink in size and it’s not the best experience.
The stats are astonishingly good. This high volatility game boasts a max win of €400,000 and an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate. of 96.02%. There are 10 paylines and the only currencies you won’t be able to play with are the Japanese yen and Tether.
Features
PICK A BONUS GAME:
The Bonus symbol is a dude with an impressive feathery headpiece, and you’ll see him land on reel 5 during the base game.
When the Bonus symbol hits, you’ll be presented with 5 treasure chests and your job is to pick one of them.
Your reward could either be a cash prize – ranging from 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 30x, or 40x your total bet – or you could trigger the Free Spins round with 10, 15, or 20 spins.
FREE SPINS:
Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters triggers the Free Spins round with 10, 15, or 20 spins respectively. The top 4 most valuable symbols – namely Jane, the satchel, pickaxe and shovel, and the binoculars – also function as Money symbols. You’ll see these above the reels.
Each of these Money symbols will be assigned a starting value. If you land a Wild along with a Money symbol, the total value of all visible Money symbols will be awarded.
All Money symbols that hit have their values collected in their respective meters. These values increase by a specific amount. Here’s a breakdown:
- Jane: The initial value is 10x your total bet. The value is increased by 5x whenever the symbol levels up. For that to happen, you’ll need to land 13 Janes initially, and then an extra 3 from that point on
- Satchel: The initial value is 5x and leveling up sees the value increase by 3x. It’ll take 11 symbols to get to the next level initially, and then 3 more symbols after that
- Pickaxe and shovel: The initial value is 3x and leveling up increases this by 2x. You’ll need 9 symbols initially, followed by 2 more afterward
- Binoculars: The initial value is 2x and a level-up increases this by 1x. You’ll need 7 symbols initially and then 2 more to get to the next levels
BUY BONUS:
You can instantly trigger the Free Spins round for only 60x your bet. You’ll get a random number of Scatters which will determine how many spins you end up with.
Performance
I thankfully experienced no performance anxiety, even though Jane is an accomplished adventurer and could probably kick my ass in pretty much anything. The action was seamless and glitch-free across all devices and browsers.
Maximum Win
Despite the 5,000x max multiplier not being the best I’ve ever seen, it’s still possible to clinch an astonishing €400,000 max win while playing Jane Hunter and the Mask of Montezuma slot.
Betting starts at €0.10 and is capped at €80.
Conclusion
I enjoyed a few things about Jane Hunter and the Mask of Montezuma slot. The first was that the game looked good (just not in portrait mode on a phone). Second was that Free Spins are for sale at a very reasonable price.
Having said that, I seemed to be able to trigger Free Spins fairly frequently so either way, you’ll be swimming in Free Spins. Then there’s the max win potential, of course. As I see it, the only real downside is the lackluster max multiplier. But it’s not a dealbreaker by a long shot.
