Joker Open'Em! Slot Review
I’m a terrible gift receiver. Always have been. I don’t know if it’s the forced enthusiasm, the spotlight, or the sheer volume of disappointing socks I’ve unwrapped over the years — but I just can’t fake excitement. 🙄
Some people light up 🤩 like it’s Christmas morning, but not me. I panic and become awkward, mumble “thanks,” and start praying there’s a gift receipt.
Birthdays? Forget it. I’d rather fake my own disappearance than sit through people singing at me. 🙈
But thankfully, Joker Open’Em! slot from Quickfire lets me open boxes I actually enjoy — mystery gifts packed with Free Spins, multipliers, and the potential for real money. 💰 No awkward eye contact. No fake smiles. Just a bunch of boxes I won’t mind tearing into.
Gameplay
Jokers paired with a magic show vibe make for a strong tandem. With a red and gold backdrop and this soundtrack, that’s where my mind goes. A female Joker stands to the left of the 5-reel, 4-row grid, and she commands the stage, occasionally wiggling her hips to keep things lively.
The reels are filled with card suits and clovers, which are the ones paying the least, while the highest-paying symbols are dice, horseshoes, bells, 7s, and Wilds. Naturally, the role of the Scatter goes to the Joker.
We’re nowhere near Christmas, but above each reel is a giftbox. These are part of the Joker Bonus feature, which I’ll cover down below.
The game is built on the following stats: 20 paylines, a 96.25% RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate., a medium volatility rate, a 6,000x max multiplier, and a $240,000 max win.
Only fiat currency is allowed, with the exception of the yen and ruble.
Features
JOKER BONUS
When a Joker lands, it may randomly open the box above that reel. The boxes on reels 1, 2, 4, and 5 have separate symbol modifiers that can be combined if multiple boxes are triggered at the same time.
The box on reel 3 awards 19 Free Spins with all modifiers available, and a shot at further increasing their values before you start spinning.
Opening one or more boxes (except for the one on reel 3) in a single spin awards 10 Free Spins for the first box, and adds 3 extra spins for each additional box opened.
During Free Spins, symbols can carry values ranging from 0.2x to 1,000x. Whenever a Joker is present, it collects all values, except during the re-spins where it collects the values at the end of the session.
Your winnings are determined by the total collected symbol values at the end of each Free Spin.
In the Joker Bonus feature, any of the non-active boxes, except for reel number 3, can also be opened, giving you an extra 3 Free Spins. Once a box has been opened, it can’t be re-triggered.
Once the feature has ended, all boxes will be reset. To hit the feature’s 6,000x max, you'll need to land 5 Jokers during the bonus round.
So what are the modifiers hiding inside the boxes above each reel?
Reel 1 - Multiplier
Starting a 2x, this multiplier increases by 1x for every Special X symbol you land. This helper multiplies symbols with values or upgraded symbols during a Joker collection. The maximum value for the multiplier is 5x.
Reel 2 - Adder
Begins on 1x, and every landed Special + symbol gets another 1x up to a maximum of 5x. The Adder adds its value to symbols.
Reel 3 - All Modifiers
All modifiers are active and before the feature starts, there’s a chance to increase the values.
Reel 4 - Symbol Upgrade
Starting with the lowest-paying symbols, which is automatically awarded when the Symbol Upgrade feature is triggered, a cash value is added to the next lowest-paying symbol for each Arrow Up symbol that lands.
Each Arrow Up symbol highlights one more low-paying symbol (up to 5), turning them into cash-value symbols. The Cash value added is valid until the end of the feature and is collected during each Joker Collection.
Reel 5 - Respin Upgrade
Each Heart symbol that lands lights up 1 of 3 displayed Hearts, each of them representing a chance. The first is automatically awarded when you trigger the feature. Whenever a Joker lands, it becomes sticky, and so does any upgraded symbol and those with values.
For every spin that doesn’t bring any new symbols with values or an upgraded version, you’ll lose one Heart. The Respin ends either when all Hearts are used up, or when all symbol positions are filled.
Performance
I didn’t experience any issues while playing, and everything worked as it should.
Max Win
All bets ranging from $0.20 to $40 are accepted. For players having their eyes on the $240,000 max win, you need to land the 6,000x max multiplier on a $40 bet.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for something different, look no further. Here’s a game that sticks out when it comes to both gameplay and overall mechanics. The hit rate sits around 25–30%, which is fine, but this thing is all about the bonus game.
The standout is clearly the Joker Bonus, where unlocking multiple boxes and stacking modifiers—especially with the Reel 3 “All Modifiers” combo—gives you the best shot at pushing toward the game’s 6,000x max win.
While the base game doesn’t offer much beyond symbol matches, the Free Spins feature is where the action heats up, particularly once the multipliers and symbol upgrades kick in.
Strategically, players who budget for longer sessions and aim to unlock multiple boxes in one go will get the most value.
I can’t say it’s entirely beginner-friendly. With five different modifier types, evolving bonus conditions, and collection mechanics that shift between regular spins and respins, it can feel a bit convoluted early on.
I think it does require a few rounds to fully understand how everything fits together. Once you get the hang of what each box does, it becomes more intuitive.
If you're used to Money Train 3 slot or Outlaws Inc. slot etc, you’ll find this easier to digest. But for players coming from simpler 5x3 slots, there’s a learning curve—though it's worth it.
