Munchies Slot Review
Reading the title of the next game – Munchies slot from Nolimit City – made me immediately assume the studio had released a game about a bunch of stoners 🚬😵💫. Nothing could be further from the truth.
You’ll meet a critter that would scare the bejesus 😱 out of the Chupacabra and Sasquatch himself. Of course, even the creature Nolimit has dreamed up would soil itself when faced with my mother-in-law on a whiskey rampage. 🥃
But I’m not going to ramble on because we’ve got a fair bit of ground to cover, so let’s get to it.
Gameplay
It always feels like Christmas when a new Nolimit City game comes along; I can’t wait to unbox the horror that the edgiest studio in the slot industry has come up with.
This one is particularly strange. Instead of a regular grid with paylines, we’ve got… how do I even describe it?... a creature with a board between its teeth that depicts the max multiplier for the number of reels you’re playing on.
But before I explain all this, let your eyes wander a little. You’ll see the creature’s chest and belly have been ripped open, and there’s an X-ray above the gore-filled gap, showing us what’s inside.
The game’s RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate. is 96% and the volatility rate is, unsurprisingly, extreme. The max multiplier is 10,000x for 1 reel, 20,000x for 2 reels, and 40,000x for 4 reels. I’ll explain all of this in the Features section.
Consequently, the payouts are $80,000, $160,000, or $320,000, respectively.
Features
ADDITIONAL REELS:
Below the creature are your options: 1, 2, or 4 reels that you can play on.
For the former, you’ll see a single reel spin across the X-ray. With two reels selected, two reels will spin, and with four… you guessed it.
Spins will reveal a multiplier value, a special symbol, or a blank tile. If the multiplier lands, your bet is boosted by its value. Simple.
The cost is 1x for a single reel, 4x for two reels, and 16x for four reels.
IT’S ALIVE SPINS:
Land a Scatter symbol – an anatomical heart, of course – during the base game to trigger 10 Free Spins.
Devour Spins:
This feature happens when you land a Scatter during the It’s Alive Free Spins round, and you’ll be awarded 5 spins. The highest multiplier value that lands now will be locked in the creature’s mouth and awarded with each spin.
GOD MODE:
This option – which you can select in the Buy Bonus menu – allows you to spin for the 10,000x max multiplier. I scored that on my second spin during testing – I’m not even kidding. Why, oh why wasn’t I using real money??? 😭
BUY BONUS:
- It’s Alive Spins: Pay 55x for 1 reel, 210x for 2 reels, and 550x for 4 reels
- Devour Spins: Pay 260x for 1 reel, 1,000x for 2 reels, and 2,400x for 4 reels
- God Mode: Pay 2,500x for this option
Performance
Be warned: this game will time out faster than… something really fast, so you’ll need to keep paying attention if you don’t want to have to reload.
Maximum Win
The max multiplier is 10,000x for 1 reel, 20,000x for 2 reels, and 40,000x for 4 reels. Consequently, the max win is $80,000, $160,000, or $320,000, respectively.
Betting ranges from $0.20 to $8.
Conclusion
Nolimit City loves to push boundaries, but rather than opting for shock value this time, they’ve limited the gruesomeness to a weird creature and have added innovation to the heady mix.
The innovation takes the form of no traditional paylines but rather the option to select 1, 2, or 4 reels to play on.
Add to this the fact that only multipliers, blank tiles, or Scatters can land and you’ve got yourself a game that’s pretty distinct from the usual fare that we see released regularly.
Unsurprisingly, given the game’s extreme volatility and penchant for serving dead spins, only hardcore players will surely be tempted to try their luck. But the payoffs can be incredible, as highlighted by the fact that I won the 10,000x max multiplier on my second spin of God Mode.
But let’s review the numbers.
- Playing on 1 reel costs 1x your bet and can yield a 10,000x payday
- Playing on 2 reels costs 4x your bet and can yield a 20,000x payday
- Playing on 4 reels costs 16x your bet and can yield a 40,000x payday
If you crunch the numbers, it reveals that playing on 1 reel yields 10,000x, playing on 2 reels yields 5,000x, and playing on 4 reels yields 2,500x.
So, the best value-for-money option is to play on a single reel. However – and here’s the fly in the ointment that’ll make you wonder what the best strategy is – the 40,000x payout can drop at a ratio of 1 in 131,026 rounds. Decisions, decisions.
