Raiders of the Lost Book Slot Review

Bertha Benz isn’t the name of a Mercedes-inspired howitzer, but there is a link there. You see, Bertha was the wife of Karl Benz who went on to start the car company we all know and admire.

Bertha was so proud of her hubby’s invention that she decided to create some publicity by zooming around Germany in 1888. 🇩🇪

Now, while the trip wasn’t that long – 66 miles in total – the car ran on wooden-spoked wheels and Mrs. Benz had to fix an electrical issue by using her garter to insulate a wire. ⚡️

She even fed the beast Ligroin – a cleaning agent she bought at a pharmacy – because petrol stations hadn’t been invented yet. ⛽️

Bertha’s trip garnered much publicity and car sales went through the roof afterward. And according to reports, the intrepid explorer didn’t even get lost – ostensibly because she had no problem asking for directions. 🗺️

This is Raiders of the Lost Book slot from GameArt.

Gameplay

Raiders of the Lost Book slot revolves around two characters: Mr. Johns and the Angeline Jolie-wannabee, Professor Lola. These intrepid explorers are on a mission to find the Golden Egyptian Ankh and Eye of Horus, as well as the Golden Book of Secrets. Alrighty then.

The setting for this game is unimaginative; it looks like the 5x3-reel grid –flanked by twin statues – is caught in a dust storm somewhere.

You’ll find 10 paylines on this game, an RTP of 96.04%, and a very high volatility rate. The largest multiplier you can scoop is 6,235x and the top prize rings the bell at €311,750. There are no currency limitations either, so you can play with whichever moolah you like.

As this is a “Book of” game, the Scatter symbol is also a Wild. Scatter Wilds will replace all symbols other than the Expanding Mystery symbol.

Features

FREE SPINS:

You’ll need to hit 3 or more Scatters to trigger the round for 10 spins. Also, a random symbol will be chosen to act as an Expanding Mystery symbol.

In other words, when a symbol of the same type as the Expanding Mystery symbol hits, it will expand across the reel it’s on.

Free Spins can be re-triggered by landing an additional 3 Scatters for an additional 10 spins.

GAMBLE FEATURE:

You can gamble after any win. It’s the usual fare – choose either red or black to win 2x your bet if you guess correctly, or win 4x your bet if you guess the correct suite of the face-down card.

You can gamble up to 5 times in succession but a single loss means all your current winnings go bye-bye. It’s also possible to turn the Gamble feature off in the Settings menu if gambling within a slot game offends you so profoundly.

BUY BONUS:

Get your ass into the Free Spins round for a fee of 100x – standard stuff.

Performance

So this was strange – while playing the Free Spins round, the game froze after the Expanding Mystery symbol landed. In other words, the symbol had already been selected but the next time it landed, things came to a grinding halt.

The payline would glow and pulsate but absolutely nothing else would happen. Hitting SPIN didn’t remedy the problem, which meant I had to reload the game; effectively losing the Free Spins I had left.

Maximum Win

There’s €311,750 to be won if you nail the 6,235x multiplier at the max bet of €50 (the minimum bet is €0.10).

Conclusion

Raiders of the Lost Book slot is pretty standard stuff but I do enjoy a Gamble feature and a Buy Bonus with my Free Spins, so it’s a recipe I can’t disparage. However, the game was marred by a tendency to freeze during the Free Spins round.

If it happens to you, you’ll likely need to reload the page thereby losing your spins. If you paid for the round via the Buy Bonus, you’ll also kiss your moolah goodbye. For this reason, I’d avoid the game until the studio manages to work out the kinks.
