Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead Slot Review

If you’ve followed any of the Rich Wilde series, you’ll be familiar with the hero who looks like the agent from the Archer animated series on Netflix. Seems he’s been a bit of a dumbass, because in Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead slot (from Play'n Go), he’s broken an ancient seal. 😱

This single act of foolishness has unleashed Ammit (a.k.a. Ammut) onto the world. This demoness with the head of a crocodile 🐊, the forequarters of a lion 🦁, and the hindquarters of a hippo 🦛, is a bad ass.

You see, the Ancient Egyptians believed that when you die, your heart would be weighed against the Feather of Truth. Ammut is the one that devours you, which means you’ll cease to exist eternally if you come up short.

Gameplay

Some game titles make me laugh. Take Rich Wilde and the Tome of Dead slot, for example. I can’t help but say it in an Eastern European accent.

Play’n GO is a Maltese company, but maybe their copywriter comes from Russia, which is why he didn’t go with “Tome of the Dead”. Or maybe there’s been a tariff hike on definite articles, and the studio could only afford one in the title.

Anyway, now I can’t stop hearing Viggo Mortensen’s voice in my head – you know, when he played the mafia dude in Eastern Promises.

The scene is Ancient Egypt, of course, and our hero stands to the right of the 5x5-reel grid. The square shape speaks to the fact that this is a Cluster PaysUnlike traditional paylines, Cluster Pays can award wins when a minimum number of matching symbols land adjacent to each other (vertically or horizontally), forming a cluster. game and there’s also a CascadeOtherwise known as a Tumble, Avalanche, or whatever a studio sees fit to name it. The idea is the same, though; winning symbols get removed, and new ones take their place. This action could result in additional wins, in which case the action continues. feature.

The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 96.20%
, the volatility rate is medium, the max multiplier is 5,000x, and the max win is $250,000. You’ll need to play with fiat money (no Japanese yen, though).

There are three types of Wilds that you’ll encounter, and they replace all symbols. The Altar Wild can trigger a Ritual feature (more on that below). The Multiplier Wild can land with 2x to 5x values in the base game, or 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x during Free Spins.

The last Wild is Ammit the Devourer; this is a 2x2-sized symbol that walks on the grid for the duration of 3 spins.

Features

ALL-SEEING EYES:

This is where we get to the grid-like representation to the left of the actual grid.

While you’re in the base game, you might see an Eye appear on this small grid, and the same position will be mirrored on the larger playing area. Form a win on that location and you’ll be awarded 2 to 4 Altar Wilds.

During Free Spins, 12 Regular Eyes (red) and 6 Special Eyes (blue) can appear. Opening all Regular Eyes (via a win on those positions) summons Ammit the Devourer. Opening 4, 5, or 6 Special Eyes applies a 2x, 3x, or 4x to your win.

RITUAL:

See that circle thing to the top left of the grid? This is the Ritual Meter, and it gets charged by winning symbols as well as when symbols are affected by these features.

There are 4 types of Rituals that can be triggered:

  • Protection: 8 charges award 2-4 Altar Wilds

  • Devour: 16 charges award 2-4 Alter Wilds, and winning with these Wilds is what triggers the devour feature. All diagonal positions 2 symbols away from the Alter Wild, as well as 3 symbols away in a horizontal or vertical direction, will be destroyed

  • Judgment: 2-4 Altar Wilds are awarded after 30 charges, and a win with these Wilds upgrades one of the Canopic Jar types into the higher-paying falcon symbol

  • Banishment: 48 charges award the Free Spins round

BANISHMENT FREE SPINS:

A Free Spins round can trigger with 3 Ritual features. It’s also possible for the Meter to overcharge, resulting in an extra Ritual feature for every 4 winning symbols (up to a max of 7).

It’s also possible to trigger a random Ritual feature when you don’t score a win. Free Spins end when all Ritual features have been depleted.

Performance

This game times out super easily, so don’t be swapping between tabs or browser windows, else you’ll have to reload. And don’t stop paying attention either – the session will time out if you end up doing something else for too long.

Maximum Win

You can score a max win of $250,000 by combining the 5,000x max multiplier with a $50 bet. The smallest bet you can place is $0.10.

Conclusion

In my experience, I found it super difficult to trigger the Free Spins round. And, of course, that’s where you want to be because you’re guaranteed at least 3 Ritual features, but possibly up to 7. And that’s where the money-making is at its peak.

Not that I’m saying this as a critique of the game; it should be challenging to get into the money. You’ll win in the base game, but the objective is to get to the Free Spins, where the potential is at its highest.

The current game is very similar to the Tome of Insanity version, which has the exact same stats.

That one also has All-Seeing Eyes, Free Spins, and features (known as Portals, this time). So if you like the current game, there’s more in the back catalogue for ya.
