Roadkill Slot Review

I felt like Moses while writing my review of Roadkill slot from Nolimit City. He wrote the bible, didn’t he? No, wait, he was the dude who downloaded tablets from the cloud or something onto his tablet. Never mind.

But the comparison works because muscling through the various features felt like parting the seas. And I’m sure I grew a long, white beard during the time it took me to work through all of this and play until my mouse finger bled.

But I shall ramble no more. Only because we have a lot to get through.

Gameplay

I think Nolimit City is losing its edge – I was expecting to load this game and be greeted by critter innards draped all over the 5x3-reel grid, with some eyeballs dangling like Christmas decorations, and stuff like that.

Nah, I’m happy the studio hasn’t gone that route; instead, they’ve opted to place the grid in the woods somewhere. Even the high-paying characters – some hillbillies, a scheming fox, a cray-cray squirrel, and a raccoon – aren’t offensive.

Low-paying symbols are barrels of moonshine, car tires, bear traps, some acorns loaded with dynamite, and sacks of unmentionable things.

The soundtrack is cars rushing past on the motorway but score a decent win and you’ll be greeted by the hillbillies going apesh*t to some thumping tunes.

There’s a lot to get through, as is always the case with Nolimit City games, so let’s look at the stats and get to the meat and bones.

  • PaylinesPaylines are preset lines that run across the reels, and when you land matching symbols on them, that will result in a payout. The more paylines, the more ways you can win, but also the higher your bet per spin.: Up to 99 ways to win
  • RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
    : 96.05%
  • Max Multiplier: 11,091x
  • Max Win: €354,912
  • Volatility RateSlot games can have low, medium, high, or extremely high volatility rates (or a combination thereof).

The less volatile the game, the more often it should pay out, but the lower the amount, the less the payout, as this is in keeping with the risk you’re taking. Volatility rate should be considered in conjunction with a game’s RTP.
: High (not the usual extremely high we’re accustomed to from the studio)

Features

Roadkill slot revolves around cars crashing into animals within a Battle Area (reels 2, 3, and 4). So, you’ll see trucks zooming across the grid and the ensuing mayhem that follows – which can get lucrative.

CALL TO ARMS:

Landing 2 Scatter symbols (these are “S” symbols) trigger this feature and two regular hearts will be applied – these are your lives, or spins. If you land a third Scatter afterward, it will initiate the Team Assemble Free Spins round, and any heart that has been used up will be restored.

COLLECTORS:

Jumping Wild animals – which I’ll go into more detail below – bring Collectors into play. The Collectors will be seen at the top of the grid and they have different colors and look-wise, they’re also linked to their corresponding Jumping Wild.

You’ll see cars crashing into Jumping Wilds and each time this happens it will be recorded by the Wilds’ Collector. When a Collector reaches 5 crashes, it’ll trigger an upgrade by enhancing its respective Jumping Wild (the type of upgrade is dependent on the animal in question).

Hearts, or lives, change from regular red to armored blue ones, which are hardier and give you more spins. If you’re down to zero hearts, an armored one will be added to the meter.

JUMPING WILDS:

There are animal symbols that get ridden over by cars. Or jump in front of cars… it depends on your perspective and who you ask; the hillbilly or the animal.

All Jumping Wilds move to different positions within the Battle Area. There are various kinds of Jumping Wilds, so let’s get into them and see what they do.

Papa Bear:

Papa Bears come with a general multiplier; his whole thing is to try to move a position in any direction every second spin.

Papa Bears can only take out a car once by damaging it but when a car stops, the general multiplier will increase by 1x to a maximum of 5x. Also, the Collector number will increase by a factor of 1.

When the Collector count hits 5, a permanent 2x multiplier will be carried by this Jumping Wild until the end of the bet.

Deer Joe:

Deer Joe functions as a Split Wild when it’s hit by a car and tries to move 1 position (in any direction) per spin.

And to elaborate, a Split Wild means Deer Joe splits all symbols on the same row and direction that the car came from. When the Collector reaches 5, the Split Wild will slice all of the rows; not just the one the car came from.

Fred the Rabbit:

This bad bunny can block a car multiple times, whereas the Papa Bear and Deer Joe can only do so once.

When hit by a car, the Rabbit leaves a Wild behind in its current position before moving on to a new spot.

When the Collector reaches 5, Fred the Rabbit will lay a trap on its starting position. This trap can only block and damage a car once and turns into a Wild if it stops a car. If it doesn’t succeed, the trap is removed.

HILLY AND BILLY CARS:

There are two types of cars: Hilly’s car (green) and Billy’s (red).

Hilly’s Car:

You get 1 point when a Jumping Wild hits, or is hit by Hilly’s car. The car will come to a halt after it’s hit once, and you’ll see it come in first on each round.

Billy’s Car:

You get 2 points when an animal hits, or is hit by Billy’s car. This car only comes in every fifth round during Team Assemble or on each round during Junkyard Assault. The car needs to be hit twice in order to be stopped.

You’ll see a tally of how many times the cars have been hit by looking at the icons of our Appalachians; the tally is marked by car tires next to their charming faces. Cars go across the reels from right to left and on random rows.

TEAM ASSEMBLE:

The first time I played this round, I was surprised at how long it continued for. It triggers when you collect 3 Scatters in the base game or during the Call to Arms.

You’ll get 3 hearts, or lifelines, or if you already have 1 or 2, the meter will be topped up to 3. The red car comes into play along with the green one, which appears every fifth spin.

If all 3 of the Jumping Wilds get upgraded during this feature, you’ll be whisked off to the Junkyard Assault. The round ends once you run out of hearts.

JUNKYARD ASSAULT:

This feature triggers once all 3 Jumping Wilds have been upgraded. The same thing as before applies to the hearts, and the red and green cars appear on every spin.

The Collector for the Jumping Wilds becomes a single, Total Collector which triggers the Roadblock each time it hits 20.

ROADBLOCK:

All hearts will be restored and Jumping Wilds will cover an entire row each within the Battle Area. The cars each hit a random row and trigger a feature based on the row:

  • Top: Adds 1 random Wild to reel 5
  • Middle: Splits the rows on reel 5
  • Bottom: The 3x3 Wild gets multiplied by 2

You can hit the same row twice but once the cars have been stopped, all 3 rows converge into a big-ass 3x3-sized Wild that covers the Battle Area.

If a car doesn’t get stopped, it will pick a new random row and drive from left to right. The feature ends when you run out of hearts.

BUY BONUS:

You can pay (not in moonshine, mind you) to get your ass to one of the following features without having to wait:

  • Team Assemble: 60x your bet
  • Luck of the Draw: 200x your bet
  • Junkyard Assault: 500x your bet

Performance

Roadkill slot mauled numerous animals during testing but didn’t get clogged up by filth in the process. Cleanliness is next to godliness, after all.

Maximum Win

You know it’s gonna be eye-wateringly large numbers if it’s a Nolimit City game and this one’s no exception: €354,912 for the max win and a 11,091x multiplier. Betting starts at €0.20 and halts at €32.

Conclusion

Goddamn, but working through Roadkill slot is like preparing for the bar exam (no offense, legal peeps; please don’t sue me).

Writing this review entailed reading through reams of info and then testing the game thoroughly to get a handle on all of the nuances but I suffer for you, dear players. Moving on from the self-flagellation and martyr syndrome, here’s what I thought of Nolimit City’s latest.

It’s epic. But if you’ve read any of my reviews on this controversial studio’s games, you would’ve anticipated I’d say that. But it’s true; it’s challenging but not as complex as some of their other games.

Even the theme is tamer than some other doozies that have assaulted our sensitivities, although it still pushes boundaries – and rightly so.

It might be my imagination but this game didn’t feel as cutthroat and viciously unforgiving as many others from the Nolimit City stable and for these reasons, it gets a couple of thumbs up from me. And possibly also a claw and a hoof.

And now, like Moses, I shall go forth and get motherless in the bullrushes.
