Rock Bottom Slot Review

Rock Bottom: the place you go to when you’ve lost all hope and are bereft of opportunity. It’s a seemingly dark and cynical rabbit hole for a studio to fall into, but then again, Rock Bottom slot comes courtesy of Nolimit City – dark and cynical is how they roll.

The theme of their latest offering centers around the downfall of someone who’s lost someone dear to them. Jesus – who comes up with this stuff? It’s sheer genius!

There are 5 characters on the reels, each representing a different stage of grief, which I’ll get to a little later. Now if all of this sounds like a fun time, then take my hand, child. It’s time to get in touch with the dark underbelly of the human condition.

Gameplay

In typical Nolimit City style, we find ourselves in a gritty urban environment with some bizarre characters peering at us from the 5-reel grid.

You’ll see a freaky clown (depression), a Robert De Niro/taxi driver dude (anger), a pimp (bargaining), a hooker (acceptance), and a dude who looks like Freddy Mercury in hotpants and f**k-me pumps (denial).

The reels are shaped in a 3-4-4-4-3 configuration which works well in either portrait or landscape mode on a mobile phone.

I’m not going to waste time in this section, as Nolimit typically packs a sh*t ton of features into their games, and I’m sure you’d rather read about that than my ranting and raving.

So, in closing, the RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is a spot-on 96.04%, and the volatility rate has been set to high. The max win is… wait for it… €354,420! Wa-wa-we-wa! And you can play in any damn currency you choose! How’s that for some good stats?

Features

XSPLIT:

These symbols only land on reels 2 to 4 during the base game and what they do is split themselves, along with character symbols (on the same row, in the middle reels, as well as on adjacent positions to the row in reels 1 and 5), in twain. Or in two, if you prefer modern speak.

When the xSplit divides, it’ll turn into 2 Wilds. Coming back to the splitting of character symbols – this can happen up to 3 times; so they can become 2, 4, or 8 symbols in size. xSplits don’t affect Scatters (which take the form of whiskey and pills), or low-paying symbols.

HEADSHRINKER SPINS:

Land 3 or 4 Scatters to activate this round. There are 5 rounds for you to progress through (you’ll start on stage 1, naturally), and a specific character is linked to each stage. These characters can become fully stacked on the reels.

How do you progress to the next stage? By collecting 5 Scatters (and then you’ll also be gifted 2 more spins).

Those characters that are connected to stages that haven’t been reached yet will increase their win multiplier by 1 each time (when they land but not during their respective stage).

All landed Scatters award an extra spin.

INSANITY SPINS:

You’ll need 5 Scatters to trigger this round, and it also has 5 stages. The characters connected with each stage become expanding Wilds that cover the reels.

As before, characters of stages not yet reached blah blah. If a character forms a win along with others that have turned into Expanded Wilds, then the multipliers of both will be added and applied to the win.

Landed Scatters during this Bonus round bring with them an additional spin, and as before, 5 collected Scatters will take you to the next level (at which point you’ll be gifted another 2 spins).

XCAP: DOWNFALL:

You’ll trigger the xCap if your total win is bigger than 1,969x. Now, you can pick a random multiplier (2x, 3x, 5x, 7x, or 10x), which will be applied to your 1,969x win. So, the rich get richer, eh?

XBET:

This is called a Buy feature in other games. For the price of 50% of your current bet, you’ll be guaranteed a Scatter symbol on reel 2.

Performance

While anger and depression might be two emotions this game centers on, I didn’t experience either during testing. And that’s because things worked perfectly across the few hundred spins on my phone and laptop.

Maximum Win

The 19,690x max multiplier will bring the behemoth of a top prize (€354,420) within your grasp – but only if you’re betting at €70. The lowest you can roll is €0.10.

Conclusion

How could I not gush about Rock Bottom slot? It’s edgy, it looks impressive on a mobile phone, there’s an astonishing €354,420 on the line, and the grungy narrative is wonderfully brought to life in the Bonus rounds.

I also found that the Bonus features weren’t so crazy as to prove difficult to get to grips with (which is something Nolimit City can do on occasion, but not this time). And that means that even newer players can give it a go.
The game gets two thumbs up from me.
