Serpent King Slot Review

Snakes 🐍 have suffered under the weight of superstitious finger-pointing for a while now. At least, they have according to certain religions.

The Ancient Egyptians, however, saw them as protectors, while the Greeks revered snakes as symbols of healing – at least when they weren’t adorning the head of a Gorgon. 😱

The Chinese love them a snake, as they’re seen as symbols of transformation and rebirth. Native American people, and Mesoamericans, are also pro the slithering, legless lizards.

I’ve run into a few snakes during my time in South Africa, and the key is just to avoid them. Generally – black mambas excluded – snakes aren’t malicious, and they’d rather not waste their venom on something they can’t eat. 🍽️

Next up is Serpent King slot from Red Tiger, which I hope doesn’t bite me in the wallet.

Gameplay

Oooh, a Red Tiger game that gets a little dark and sinister? I can’t recall the last time the studio went down this road, so it’s a welcome change.

The high-paying symbols are treasure chests with skulls on em, potion bottles embraced by snakes, skulls with snakes, and tooth-pendant necklaces.

The 5-reel, 4-row grid is huge on a laptop, but on a phone, it’s not that imposing. It’ll look a bit better in portrait mode, and of course, it’s totally playable, but the laptop experience is best.

To the right of the grid is a locked 6th reel that collects Gold Coins – you’ll need these to upgrade the Serpent King Wilds. More on that in a bit. PS: Wilds replace all regular paying symbols.

There are three currencies you won’t be able to play with: the Canadian and Australian dollar, as well as Dogecoin (sorry Elon). All other forms of moolah are good to go.

Wins take place across 30 paylines. The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 95.70%
and the game has a high volatility rate. The max multiplier is a pants-tightening 12,825x, while the top prize is $192,375.

The latter is a little low, but it means you’ll only need to bet $15 per spin to be eligible for the most moolah.

Features

SERPENT UPGRADES:

Remember I said that Gold Coins are needed to upgrade Wilds? They need to land at the same time as a Serpent Wild (the regular one), and then the Gold Coin will be collected in that locked 6th reel , which doubles as a meter.

  • Collect 30 Gold Coins to upgrade to Super Wilds
  • Collect 60 Gold Coins to upgrade to Super Multiplier Wilds
  • Collect 90 Gold Coins to upgrade to Locked Increasing Multiplier Wilds

Super Wilds are fully expanded Wilds that take over the reel they’re on. Super Multiplier Wilds do the same thing but they also get a random multiplier value of 2x to 5x.

As for Locked Increasing Multiplier Wilds, these Wilds stay on the grid until they form part of a win (the Wild’s multiplier increases by 1x for each consecutive win that it’s a part of), and then this must be followed by a non-winning spin.

The symbol lives on the 5th reel while it’s locked, but after that, it can move to any of the first 4 reels.

MULTIPLIER STONE:

When a Serpent Wild with a multiplier is on the grid, but no win takes place, the Wild can store that multiplier in a Multiplier Stone. The next time that the Serpent Wild lands, the multiplier will be transferred back to it (and therefore, it could increase the new multiplier value).

SERPENT RE-SPINS:

If a Serpent Wild lands and there’s no win, a random symbol on the grid may be highlighted. All of the same type of symbols in view will be locked in place, and a re-spin is issued.

If new versions of that chosen symbol keep landing, re-spins will keep happening. However, only winning paylines that include this chosen symbol will pay when the feature ends.

Performance

Playing this game on a phone, laptop, or tablet made no difference to the performance. Neither did swapping between Safari and Chrome.

Maximum Win

Let us rejoice! Combining the 12,825x max multiplier with the largest bet of $15 results in a $192,375 payday. The smallest bet you can place is $0.10.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for excitement, Serpent King slot might not be the game for you. Every now and then you’ll trigger the Serpent Re-spins feature, but upgrading Wilds takes some doing.

The upshot is you’ll need to sit through the often painful process of trying to fill that meter to unlock the 6th reel and upgrade the Wilds. I certainly don’t have the patience for this, but of course, it can be rewarding to stick it out.

The game reminds me of another of Red Tiger’s releases; Primate King slot. You also need to collect Gold Coins and unlock the 6th reel.

The difference is that the older game has Free Spins, but in fairness, it offers less money ($180,000) for the same volatility rate. Having said that, the max multiplier is 30,000x, which is a lot better than the current game’s.

Both of these games are part of a series of linked games that offer Jackpots. There’s a Super Jackpot, which has no theoretical limit, as well as an hourly Jackpot that pays out… well, you’ve guessed it, I’m sure.

So yeah, Serpent King slot doesn’t suit me, as I can’t sit and try to fill a meter with nothing much happening. And I’m most certainly not expecting to trigger a linked progressive Jackpot (much as I’d like to).
