The Golden Duck Slot Review

I’m not much of a sports fan – unless we’re talking MotoGP, boxing, or martial arts – and I especially hate the game of cricket.

I know this will ruffle a few feathers but watching an adult male rub a ball on his crotch just doesn’t do it for me. Yes, yes, I can appreciate the skill it takes to whack a ball that’s coming at you at 95 mph but I don’t care. Cricket sucks.

I bring this up because a golden duck in the game of cricket means that a batsman has been bowled out on the first delivery of an innings.

That’s not a good thing, but today we’re going to take a gander (see what I did there?) at The Golden Duck slot from Casino Technology and hopefully, our duck will bring us luck.

Gameplay

The Golden Duck slot is a 5-reel game with 25 paylines that’s set in a peaceful garden with pink-blossomed trees and tranquil water. It makes quite the visual statement on a desktop or laptop, but it looks abysmal on a phone in portrait mode.

On a smaller device, you’ll see that the grid is tiny and the background becomes a blur of blue water and sky. It doesn’t look good. Luckily, landscape mode comes to the rescue, so if you wanna play on the go, I’d suggest avoiding portrait mode at all costs.

Another thing that really bothers me is the flashing “PRESS START TO CONTINUE” that you’ll see directly under the grid. I hate it when games try to hard-sell or seem to be putting pressure on players.

But our disappointment isn’t over. There’s also the 95.35% RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
(which is below the industry standard) and the €100,000 max win, which should ideally have been a bit more generous, considering the volatility rate of this game is high.

And then there are the currency limitations. The Golden Duck slot only accepts fiat, as long as it’s not Japanese yen or New Zealand dollar.

Let’s hope the features make up for this poor start.

Features

The Wild is a golden egg, and you’ll only see this symbol on reels 1, 2, or 3 during the Free Spins round.

FREE SPINS:

The Golden Duck is a Scatter and if you land 3, 4, or 5 of them, you’ll be awarded 15 Free Spins. You can even scoop up an additional 15 spins if you land 3 or more Scatters.

When the reels stop during Free Spins, any landed egg Wilds will crack and then move to an adjacent position, as long as a Scatter or Double Duck doesn’t occupy that spot. Now, all of the positions with either an egg symbol or a Wild will turn into a Double Duck.

Double Ducks will only be found during Free Spins on reels 1 to 4, and they replace all symbols other than Scatters or Wilds.

DOUBLE UP:

You’ll be offered the chance to amplify your wins after each game that yields less than 10x your total bet.

Hit the X2 button (which replaces the SETTINGS icon) and you’ll see the double-up screen. Match the face-down card by either choosing red or black for a chance to double your wins, or quadruple your wins if you pick a matching suit.

Oh, and if you want, you can elect to gamble only half your current win by clicking on the HALF GAMBLE button. The round continues until you reach 50x your total bet, or until you tap out or lose. And a single loss means your gambled amount goes bye-bye.

Performance

I played The Golden Duck slot on all of my devices, using Safari and Chrome. Happily, there were no issues during the many, many spins so feel free to play how you like.

Maximum Win

You can start placing bets at just €0.25 or max out at €50. If you’re playing at the €50-mark and the 2,000x multiplier comes in, then you’ve nailed the €100,000 top prize! Yeah, I agree it should be more generous, but I’m open to donations if that prize ain’t enough for ya.

Conclusion

So, I guess you know what I’m gonna say at this point. I don’t like shouty games (PRESS START, PRESS START!), and this one has very few features, a sub-par RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

, and a low max win. It’s not my cup of Jack Daniels but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for you.

It’s a game that could appeal to newbies or seasoned veterans who value simplicity and aren’t worried about an anemic max win.
