The Wild Drifter Slot Review

I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana

Wait, wait, it’s not what you think it is. It’s just a line from Me and Bobby McGee, a song about two drifters by Kris Kristofferson. And considering our next game is The Wild Drifter slot from Relax, I thought it would be approps to discuss this famous song. 🎸🎤

You see, the ditty is relevant to today’s pronoun-focused, easily offended youth because “Bobby” is a gender-neutral name. Which means everyone can get off their high horse and chill.

Me and Bobby McGee was covered by everyone from Janis Joplin to Pink, and the hard-living Joplin played with the genders of the drifters, turning Bobby into a man (the OG Bobby was based on Barbara Eden, a secretary whose maiden name was McKee). 🎶🎶🎼

I’ll leave you with some more inspirational lyrics from the song. Peace out. ✌️☮️

La-da-da, la-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da-da-da
La-da-da-da-da-da-da-da, Bobby McGee, yeah
La-da-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da
La, la-da-da-da-da-da, Bobby McGee, oh yeah

Gameplay

Five reels with 3 rows and 25 paylines – that’s what greets us as we fire up The Wild Drifter slot. You’ll see a Sheriff’s badge, a bandito (or is he The Drifter?), a serving wench, a Stetson, and two six-guns on the grid, as the high-paying symbols. 🤠

The Wild is the mustachioed Sheriff and he replaces all symbols that aren’t Scatters.

Even though this is a medium volatility game, you can score a rootin’-tootin payout of $250,000! That’s due, in part, to the generous 20,000x multiplier. The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

and you’ll need to play with fiat currency, but at least all of them are acceptable.

Features

WIN MULTIPLIER:

See the multiplier at the top right of the screen? It’s increased by 1x every time a non-winning spin occurs (as soon as a win happens, the amount will be boosted by the current multiplier), and then the multiplier will reset. Now that’s an interesting twist.

The win multiplier doubles for each non-winning spin during the Free Spins round, but it doesn’t reset. Yee-haw!

FREE SPINS:

Hit 3 or more money bag Scatters for 5 spins. At the start of the round, a Wild will appear on reel 5 and it’ll expand to cover the entire reel. If any additional Wilds land, they’ll expand across their respective reel and move left with each subsequent spin.

When the Wilds reach reel number 1, they’ll be removed on the next spin. The round ends when all Expanded Wilds have reached the first reel.

BUY BONUS:

This one’s a bit different, too. When you click on the Buy Bonus, you’ll see 9 spheres you can choose from. They all have varying prices but irrespective of this, you still only get 5 spins.

So, what’s the point? Why would you pick any sphere other than the cheapest one? There isn’t much of a point – all it does is change your bet. That’s pretty lame.

The Buy Bonus’s RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

Performance

I went through a few hundred spins while testing The Wild Drifter slot and everything worked according to plan. 👌

Maximum Win

Ladies and gentlemen; place your bets. You can start at $0.25 or head on over to $12.50, or place any amount in between. The max multiplier comes in at 20,000x and you can grab a glorious payout of $250,000 – and remember, this is a medium volatility game!

Conclusion

The Wild Drifter slot tries to do things differently – well, it does and also fails in the attempt (that Buy Bonus idea must’ve come up during a Hangover Monday brainstorming session).

The vibe is a bit cartoony, but that’s not a bad thing for certain players. And who cares if you can make money, right? 🤷‍♂️

According to the stats, you can make a ton of cash. The reality will always boil down to luck, but if you want a shot at some shekels, then the Free Spins round – with its Expanding and Roaming Wilds, non-resetting multipliers that double for each non-win – is where you wanna be.

I have a complaint about the theme; namely that there doesn’t seem to be a drifter character – unless it’s the bandana-wearing high-paying symbol – but even then, the studio hasn’t run with the idea as I’d have liked to have seen.

All told, The Wild Drifter slot is okay. It overpromises with the possible payout, but the gameplay isn’t all that exciting, and I’m still a bit annoyed that we only get 5 Free Spins.
