Treasure-snipes: Christmas Slot Review
I reckoned it was highly doubtful that pirates celebrated Christmas. But, as I should have guessed, hypocrisy is rife when it comes to people and their beliefs.
After some digging, I uncovered an account by Pere Jean-Baptiste Labat of the pirate Daniel (not exactly a fear-evoking name, that) confirming that they did indeed celebrate Xmas.
I was roaring with laughter when I read these lines, though: “They put up an altar on the poop” and “chanted Mass lustily.” I know, I’m a man-child who finds inappropriate, puerile things funny.
What is serious though, despite its Pirates of the Caribbean look, is Treasure-snipes: Christmas slot from Evoplay.
Let’s check it out.
Gameplay
The 5-reel grid is positioned on the rear of a galleon, which is what Yggdrasil did in Cannonade slot, so no points to Evoplay for originality. However, this game is a step up in terms of design.
For starters, it’s bristling with detail and the whole 3-D thing makes the ship seem to jump out at our landlubber asses. The symbols are far more lifelike, and the overall is just streets ahead of Yggdrasil’s offering.
The only downside is that Treasure-snipes: Christmas slot doesn’t offer the best mobile experience in portrait mode. The design is dark, so it’s not easy to see details, and you lose a bunch of screen real estate to the sea and the helm.
I also feel that the controls are too close to each other. People with sausage fingers will be frustrated by this. Landscape mode fixes most of the problems, just not the size and positioning of the controls.
Digging into the stats reveals 20 paylines, an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate. of 96.18%, a high volatility rate, and a max win that would make Bluebear himself blush: €345,000!
As is befitting a pirate-themed game (but that’s still sucky for some of us), the only currency accepted here is fiat.
The pirate Wild replaces all regular symbols except the skull Scatter and the Bonus symbol. You’ll see Wilds on reels 2 to 5 in both the base game and Free Spins round.
Features
FREE SPINS:
Triggering this feature takes place when you bring in 3 or more Scatters anywhere on the reels and you’ll get 8 spins to start things off with.
Only Wilds, Scatters, Bonus symbols, and Pirates (the high-paying symbols) will appear on the reels. Reel number 3 won’t have the latter, though.
Spins can be re-triggered by landing an additional 3 Scatters (you’ll get 8 once again) and the Bonus game can also be won during Free Spins. If that happens, the Bonus game gets priority, and you’ll return to finish the Free Spins afterward.
GRAND REEL BONUS GAME:
This round starts when you land 6 or more (that’s a lot) Bonus symbols on reels 1 to 4 in the base game or during Free Spins. All Bonus symbols will now carry random multiplier values ranging from 1x to 8x, 10x, 12x, or 15x your bet.
In addition, you can also win the Mini (75x), Mega (150x), and Super (500x) Jackpots if you land the corresponding symbols. The Grand (4,000x) Jackpot can only be won thanks to a Grand Reel spin.
When the round starts, you’ll notice that only the triggering Bonus symbols stay on the reels and that reel number 5 turns into the Grand Reel.
The only additional symbols that can appear are other Bonus ones, and all Bonus symbols carry multiplier values as I mentioned above. You’ll get 3 spins to begin with and the counter will reset with each additional landed Bonus.
So, how do we unlock the Grand Reel? That’s easy (OK, not so much); you’ll need to collect 12 Bonus symbols across reels 1 to 4 and this will make the reel spin one time.
You could then win one of the lesser Jackpots or the big daddy, money prizes worth 20x to 50x, or multipliers with a 2x to 5x value.
Performance
Treasure-snipes: Christmas slot rolls more like a nuclear sub than an old pirate galleon. It performed flawlessly on all my devices and on Safari and Chrome.
Maximum Win
The max win that Evoplay’s offering isn’t the kind you wanna bury: it’s €345,000, and that’s a sh*t ton by most anyone’s standards.
The max multiplier ain’t the best, at 4,600x, so you’ll need to sustain your betting at €75 if you want a shot at that top prize. But fear not, you can always bet from as little as €0.10.
Conclusion
Treasure-snipes: Christmas slot is a decent offering. It’s built on a solid math model, and you can play it on the go (preferably in landscape mode).
It ain’t exactly stuffed full of features, but they did come in frequently enough (in my experience) to stave off any serious boredom.
If I had to nitpick, I’d say that the features could’ve been better integrated with the theme as they don’t have much to do with pirates. And the design isn’t innovative at all. But neither of these things is a dealbreaker.
