Undefeated Xerxes Slot Review
Timing is a funny thing. Just this morning, I was watching the non-binary edition of 300 on YouTube, and now I get to review Undefeated Xerxes slot from Play'n Go. 🎰
I kept having flashbacks of Rodrigo Santoro – dressed in, well, not much – climbing down from his ornate pyramid, as soldiers bow to create a platform that he/she can walk on, while saying, “Ladies, some help here” in this gravelly voice. 🤣
And then he/she comes up with this while speaking to King Leonidas:
Have you not noticed the people to my right?
My Saviors
Better known as the Cancel Culture
Ready to silence [sic] anyone who goes against our agenda
Anyway, I thought it was funny. 🤷♂️
But gambling is a serious business, so let’s cut the mirth and get elbow-deep in the entrails of this stunningly animated game.
Gameplay
Daaaaamn, what a killer intro sequence! It’s all about how the Spartans are getting ready to face off against their mortal enemy, the Persians.
The grid is a massive 5-reel affair filled with armor, helmets, and swords, and Undefeated Xerxes slot looks superb on a smaller screen (with landscape mode the better option).
The Scatter symbol is the pierced, codpiece-wearing king, Xerxes. Okay, that’s how he was portrayed in the movie – here, he’s shown as a manly dude with an impressively coiffured beard.
During the base game, the Scatter feature might randomly activate, which sees 2 Scatters land on the first 2 reels. You’ll need 3 Scatters, though, to activate the Free Spins round for 10 spins.
There’s also a Hero symbol, which is King Leonidas, but he’s got a trick up his sleeve which I’ll reveal under Free Spins.
In addition to regular Wilds (red), you can also land Multiplier Wilds (green) with values of 2x to 5x, which will boost your line wins.
Multiplier Wilds can also accumulate. In other words, if 2 or more Multiplier Wilds are involved in a win, their values are added together and applied to the win amount.
Wilds of any kind replace all symbols other than Scatters.
A quick glance at the stats reveals 30 paylines, a high volatility rate, and an RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.
RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate. of 96.20%. The top payout is $200,000 and the max multiplier is 10,000x. As for the accepted currencies, you’ll have to play with fiat (not the Japanese yen, though) or Bitcoin.
Features
WILD FRAMES:
During the base game, you can see 3 to 4 Wild Frames on random positions on the reels. The symbols that they highlight will transform into Wilds or Multiplier Wilds.
FREE SPINS:
The Free Spins round is like the final showdown between mortal enemies Leonidas and Xerxes, with the former taking his position on the left of the grid and the latter on the right.
Sadly, you won’t see Scatters during the round, so you can’t re-trigger Free Spins.
Wilds that land will leave a frame on their position – these will stay put for the duration of the Free Spins. Land a second frame on an initial one and that will upgrade the Wild Frame.
The Wilds are our Spartan heroes who march relentlessly from the left of the screen to the right as they engage with the might of the Persian Empire.
Now, on the final spin of the Free Spins round, all Wild Frames morph into Wilds, and upgraded Wild Frames transform into Multiplier Wilds. The Hero symbol also appears with a 25x multiplier.
Performance
I experienced some issues with Undefeated Xerxes slot while using Safari. The game got stuck but would eventually come right. Chrome didn’t seem to have this problem. Also, be warned that the game times out pretty easily.
Maximum Win
The Persian Empire was renowned for its vast wealth so it would be fitting for us to see some serious numbers being offered by Undefeated Xerxes slot.
Indeed, $200,000 isn’t a bunch of money I’d turn my nose up at, nor is the 10,000x multiplier unwelcomed. Betting starts at $0.10 and is capped at $20.
Conclusion
The action can get a bit tedious while spinning the reels on Undefeated Xerxes slot – unlike the Battle of Thermopylae, but not unlike 99% of all slot games. At least the monotony is broken up by Wild Frames and Wild Multipliers.
But it’s all a build-up to that final spin in the Free Spins round which, much like the famous battle the game tips its hat to, could end in glory or ignominious defeat.
I really enjoyed the battle sequence in the Free Spins round, and the animations – which Play’n GO have put a serious amount of time into – suck you in and get the old juices flowing.
Casting your lot on a final spin is not only an interesting strategy, but it also ties in beautifully with the game’s theme so I must applaud the studio on a job well done.
