Unusual Suspects Slot Review

I had an editor back in the day who used to revel in telling a story about when he traveled overseas after uni.

He ended up in Berlin and was walking around looking for things to do when he saw an art gallery that was having a photographic exhibition. The only problem is, he can’t make out what the pictures are of.

He’s got his face right up against the pics and then stands far away to look again but no dice. Then suddenly, a lanky German dude sidles up to him and says, “Oh ja, don’t you sink it’s beautiful?” To which my editor replied, “Sure” although he was still confused.

The German explains precisely what the pics are of but I’ll spare you the mental anguish and years of psychotherapy – let’s just say that some rusty sheriff's badges were involved and leave it at that.

Luckily, the badges in Unusual Suspects slot from Quickfire are of the po-po variety. Wait, that still sounds bad. Err, they’re detective’s badges.

Uh, let’s just move along swiftly, shall we?

Gameplay

I like a game with an implied backstory, and Unusual Suspects slot has a cops and robbers theme going for it.

The thing is, the 5x4-reel grid is relatively small on a desktop device. You can still see what’s going on, but there’s an element to the left that talks about the Wilds and Scatters, which is informative when you’re starting to play but takes up a lot of real estate.

The game looks funkier on a mobile device in portrait mode. However, the BUY and GAMBLE buttons are tiny and right next to each other so that could cause problems for players with sausage fingers.

Landscape mode makes the grid even smaller than it is, so that’s not the orientation I’d choose to roll with.

And now, let’s check out the stats before moving on to the features:

  • PaylinesPaylines are preset lines that run across the reels, and when you land matching symbols on them, that will result in a payout. The more paylines, the more ways you can win, but also the higher your bet per spin.: 20
  • Reels: 5
  • RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
    : 96.04%
  • Max Multiplier: 12,500x
  • Max Win: €250,000
  • Volatility RateSlot games can have low, medium, high, or extremely high volatility rates (or a combination thereof).

The less volatile the game, the more often it should pay out, but the lower the amount, the less the payout, as this is in keeping with the risk you’re taking. Volatility rate should be considered in conjunction with a game’s RTP.

Features

SCATTERS AND NUDGING SCATTER RE-SPINS:

Police light Scatters can land on any of the reels during the base game. Landing 2 Scatters on the top 3 rows triggers a Nudging Re-spin: Any reel with a Scatter will nudge down a single row while the other reels re-spin.

WILDS:

This game has two types of Wilds: a Golden and Regular Wild. Both appear in the base game and the Free Spins round, and Golden Wilds spawn Regular Wilds or another Golden Wild. Wilds replace all symbols other than Detective symbols or Scatters.

WILD STICKY FRAME:

Whenever a Wild – of any type – lands, it leaves behind a sticky frame with a 1x multiplier that can increase to 5x if additional Wilds land on that frame.

DETECTIVE WILD BONUS:

When this bad boy lands, it populates all of the sticky frames with Wild symbols. The Detective Wild Bonus is available in the base game and the Free Spins round. Sticky frames will endure until the round ends during Free Spins.

FREE SPINS BOOSTER:

You’ll notice that there’s a progress bar above the reels. Landing 2 Scatters simultaneously adds a token to the meter and once you collect 50 of these, you’ll unlock Big Boss 1. That means you’ll get 5 additional spins and a 2x multiplier for your trouble.

BIG BOSS FREE SPINS:

As is the way of Free Spins, you’ll need to land 3, 4, or 5 Scatters to trigger 10, 15, or 20 spins. You’ll collect Detective symbols in the bar above the reels which means additional spins and better multipliers:

  • 3 Detectives = Big Boss 1, which awards 5 more spins and a 2x multiplier
  • 6 Detectives = Big Boss 2, which awards 5 more spins and a 3x multiplier
  • 9 Detectives = Big Boss 3, which awards 5 more spins and a 5x multiplier
  • 12 Detectives = Big Boss 4, which awards 5 more spins and a 10x multiplier

GAMBLE FEATURE:

You can gamble for Free Spins at any time. You’ll be presented with a small wheel with a green and red section. You can increase (or decrease) either – increasing the green, which gives you a better chance of winning the Free Spins round, will cost you more and vice versa.

At a 50-50 ratio, the Gamble featureThis feature allows you to gamble your current winnings. It usually takes the form of guessing what color and/or suit a facedown card will reveal itself to be. A correct guess on the color pays 2x, while a correct guess of the color and suit pays 4x your bet. will set you back 19.30x your bet.

BUY BONUS:

If you’d rather go for a sure thing, head over to the Buy Bonus and spend 38.60x your bet for the Free Spins round. Which is a freakin’ bargain as you could get up to 20 spins!

Performance

I played hundreds of spins while testing Unusual Suspects slot and it never failed me. I tried the game out on my tablet, phone, and laptop and swapped between Safari and Chrome with no issues.

Maximum Win

You can bet from as little as €0.10 or go all-in at €20. Landing the 12,500x multiplier at the max bet means you’ll have scooped the €250,000 top prize.

Conclusion

You know what? I had a blast playing Unusual Suspects slot. Here are a couple of things I liked about the game.

The Buy Bonus is cheap and can award up to 20 spins. The Gamble option is fun and a more affordable way to get into Free Spins, if you’re lucky.

As for the sticky frames, those can pay off handsomely by boosting multipliers and when the Detective symbols populate these with Wilds – especially during Free Spins when they stay for the duration.

Couple this with the Free Spins Booster and you’re looking at a fun time that can also be very lucrative.

As the volatility rate isn’t hectic, that should make the game appealing to non-high rollers but the latter could still stand to win a quarter of a million, so Unusual Suspects slot does have broad appeal.
