As someone who did martial arts for close to a decade, this next game is one I’m super excited to get my hands on. It’s set in a futuristic environment where traditional Japanese warriors kick the tar out of each other for the honor of their clan and control of the city.
I’m not going to prattle on as we have many features to get through. This is Warrior Ways slot from Hacksaw.
Gameplay
Our 5x3-reel grid finds itself in a modern Japanese street scene. Old meets new here, and it’s got a bit of a gritty edge to it which I like.
The reels are ensconced in a Shinto-esque shrine, which works well with the rest of the design.
It looks brilliant on a phone in portrait mode, as the background falls away so all you’re left with are the reels. You can see the symbols perfectly and the buttons and controls are large and easy to use.

Features
There are 4 Clans in this game – Red, Blue, Green, and Orange. Each Clan has a high symbol (Warriors) and a low symbol (Weapons) associated with it.

DUEL
This is the core mechanism of the game. A Duel is triggered when a VS symbol lands between 2 Warriors of opposing Clans. VS symbols only appear on reels 2 – 4.
Each Duel features 2 Duel Multipliers – one for each of the Warriors. During the base game, these can range from 1x to 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, or 100x.
At the end of a Duel, the winning Clan’s high symbol replaces one of the loser’s symbols. There are 3 possible ways in which this can happen: it can either replace the losers’ high, low, or high and low symbols.
Additionally, the winning Warrior’s Duel Multiplier will be applied to any win on a symbol belonging to that Clan.
BONUS GAME
Collect 3 Clash symbols simultaneously on the reels and you’ll start the Clash Bonus game. Land 3 Conquest symbols and… you guessed it.
With CLASH, you get 2 phases – Collect and Clash.
Collect:
There are no paying symbols here.
Your goal is to collect as many VS symbols and Clan Multipliers as possible during your spins.
You’ll start with 3 Free Spins and if at any time you score a VS symbol or a Clan Multiplier, the Free Spins count resets.
VS symbols only appear on reel 3, while Clan Multipliers appear on reels 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Each reel will take on one of the Clan colors and their total multiplier values will be reflected above the corresponding reel.
Clan Multipliers start at 2x and increase to 3x, 4x, 5x,10x,15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, or 100x.
Epic Clan Multipliers appear on reel 3 and these will multiply all the collected Clan Multipliers values above the reels by 2x.
When you run out of spins in the Collect phase, you transition to the next one: Clash.
Clash:
The number of spins you’re allotted here depends on how many VS symbols you scooped during the Collection phase.
Each spin guarantees a Duel.
At this point, the Clan Multiplier values you collected previously will replace the corresponding Duel Multipliers for each Clan Warrior for each of the Duels.
CONQUEST
This phase kicks off with 10 Free Spins and an extra FS will be added for each additional Conquest symbol landed.
During this phase, each Clan has a banner that absorbs 2x damage. Each time a Clan loses a Duel, the banner incurs damage of 1x.
When the banner is destroyed, the respective Clan is eliminated from the feature and its symbols are removed from the reels. You’ll also be awarded 1 Free Spin for each elimination.
Lastly, you can also make use of the BUY FEATURE to fast-track your way into the Bonus Round. However, you won’t transition from the Clash to Conquest phases, you’ll need to choose one or the other.
CLASH offers a high volatility, while the more expensive CONQUEST offers a medium volatility.
Performance
Hacksaw Gaming has seen to it that this game plays well with all your devices. I ran through a few hundred spins and it worked flawlessly throughout.
Maximum Win
The warring Clans can bring in a handsome 10,000x multiplier, which will score you a healthy €250,000 top prize from the max bet.
Conclusion
If you’re into games with elaborate features, then this slot will suit you well. Once you get into the swing of things, it’s a lot easier to keep track of but initially, it can be a bit daunting to understand. For that reason, I’d say this is not a beginner’s game.
Warrior Ways slot is a good option for mobile play, and it will also satisfy those players who like to chase the big dinero.
