Premium European Blackjack Review

I'd have bet good money on Clever Hans, the German horse 🐎 who drew crowds across Europe around 1900 by doing math 🧮. Ask him to add 4 and 3 and he'd tap his hoof 7 times, then stop dead.

Turns out Hans couldn't add a thing. He was reading tiny twitches in the questioner's face and quitting the moment they relaxed.

That's pretty much every blackjack player I know, myself included. We swear we're counting when we're mostly reading the table and hoping, which is why I sat down at Premium European Blackjack from Platipus Gaming to see how far that gets me.

Gameplay

The table is exactly what you picture: green felt, a tidy arc of 5 betting spots, and gold lettering promising. No mascot, no cartoon dealer, no story to sit through. The cards are the entertainment.

The layout looks awesome on a phone in either portrait mode or landscape mode. Everything is clearly laid out, easy to see at a glance, and the controls, while maybe a little bit smaller than I would have liked, still do the job quite happily.

The RTPRTP stands for “Return to Player.” The RTP describes the total bet amount that a game returns to players over millions of spins, and that figure is represented by a percentage. Table games, such as Roulette, typically have higher RTPs than many slots.

RTP needs to be considered in conjunction with a game’s volatility rate.
is 99.58%
(Goddamn!), the volatility is low, and the best single payout on the table is a 101x max multiplier. The max win is $3,600, with bets opening at $0.50 and topping out at $50 before splits, doubles, and side bets pile on.

This is the European build, so the dealer takes 1 card to start and never peeks for blackjack.

Six decks get shuffled after every round, which means anyone hoping to count cards like Hans can pack it in. You can play up to 5 hands at once, each with its own bet.

A natural pays 3:2, insurance pays 2:1, and a regular winning hand pays even money. The dealer stands on soft 17, which keeps the house edge thin.

The no-peek rule has teeth, though. Double or split into a dealer Ace, watch a blackjack turn up, and the extra bet goes down with the original (against a dealer 10, you get that portion back).

There's also a 10-Card Charlie rule, which I love. Draw 10 cards without busting and the hand wins outright, whatever the dealer holds, unless that dealer has blackjack. You'll see it roughly never, but it's a fun bit of folklore baked into the felt.

Features

POKER SIDE BET (21+3):

This side bet grades your first 2 cards plus the dealer's up card like a mini poker hand, and you place it under any hand that already carries a main bet.

A Flush pays 5:1, a Straight 10:1, Three of a Kind 30:1, and a Straight Flush 40:1. Suited Three of a Kind is the big one at 100:1, which is the 101x return that headlines the whole game.

PLAYER'S AND DEALER'S PAIR:

Two pair bets live here. The Player's Pair sits under your hand and pays on a matching first 2 cards, the standard version most tables carry.

The Dealer's Pair is the part you don't see everywhere: the same bet aimed at the dealer's hand, placed up near the dealer.

Both pay the same. A Red/Black pair returns 6:1, a Colored pair (matching rank and color) 12:1, and a Perfect pair (matching rank and suit) 25:1.

Every side bet needs a main bet beneath it, and you can run all of them at once.

Performance

I dealt myself a loooooong run of hands across my desktop device and phone, and nothing stuttered, hung, or misbehaved.

Maximum Win

The max win is capped at $3,600. Reaching it means stacking the top main bet of $50 across split and doubled hands while your side bets all land at the same time.

The single biggest payout the table offers is the 101x max multiplier, from a Suited Three of a Kind on the 21+3 bet. The smallest bet you can place is $0.50.

Conclusion

The game's real selling point is the base game. The rules lean toward the player with a soft-17 stand, full 3:2 naturals, and doubling after splits, so the return sits near the top of anything you'll find at an online table.

The catch is that the stuff making it stand out costs you. The side bets are where the fun is, but they don't pay like the base game.

The 21+3 returns 95.38% and the pair bets 93.38%, which is a substantial step down from the base game. Call it impatience tax.

The no-peek rule means doubling or splitting into a dealer Ace can cost you the extra bet, so don't get greedy against one. And the Dealer's Pair wager is a genuine novelty, but novelty and value aren't the same thing.

So who's the game for? Players who want a clean table and can skip the side bets will do well.

Those who can't walk past a 100:1 ticket will have more fun and a lighter wallet. Either way, the only person counting cards here is you, not as well as you think.
