Hang Out With the Spirits in the Jack & Rose Slot
A great pub is basically church for people who prefer their sermons with foam on top. The floor is sticky, the stories are questionable, and by the third drink, everyone is either your best friend or arguing until they’re red in the face about why they’d definitely survive the end of the world.
Now imagine that same pub experience, except the world is ending and your drinking buddies are four ancient spirits, the ghostly kind rather than the ones behind the bar. That’s essentially the setup behind the Jack & Rose slot from Kitsune.
Welcome to the end of the world
The Jack & Rose slot features 19 paylines across its six reels. It offers betting from $0.10 a spin and tops out at $20 a spin. If you’re maxing out with each spin, you’ll have a shot at up to $300,000 in winnings thanks to a maximum multiplier of 15,000x your bet.
With high volatility, the slot’s gameplay won’t offer the small, consistent wins common in lower-volatility slots. The expected RTP for the Jack & Rose slot is 96.36%.
The main bonus mechanic centers on the Expanding Multiplier Wild feature. Wild symbols appear in four different colors, with each color linked to a specific reel and its own multiplier range. When a qualifying wild lands on its assigned reel and takes part in a winning combination, it may expand to fill the entire reel and apply a multiplier to the winning amount.
Multiplier values increase as you move across the reels from left to right. This means wilds appearing on the right side of the slot can deliver significantly larger multipliers, with the rightmost reel capable of awarding multipliers of up to 200x.
The free spins features are triggered by landing three or more FS scatter symbols. Once triggered, you will enter one of two free spins modes. The standard version is triggered with three FS symbols and increases the frequency of multiplier wilds, giving you more opportunities to benefit from the Expanding Multiplier Wild mechanic.
The enhanced free spins feature is triggered by landing four or more FS symbols. This version adds Spirit Reels, which help matching coloured wilds expand more often when they are part of a win. As a result, the multiplier wilds can feel more reliable during the bonus round.
The slot’s Buy Bonus feature gives you the option to purchase either the standard or enhanced free spins round for 100x or 200x your bet, respectively.
Is the Jack & Rose slot the place to be at the end of the world?
The Jack & Rose slot has a really cool backstory. As the world ends outside, the main character, Jack, keeps the taps flowing for one final night while the Four Spirits gather for one last round. You would never know it, though. The blurb is stuck inside a menu that very few players will ever open. And the slot itself doesn’t attempt to make you aware of it with a splash screen or any subtler framing devices available to the developers. It just feels like a missed opportunity. Without the backstory, the whole thing feels a little bland.
An interesting set of bonus features does manage to pull this one back a little. The multiplier wilds feature, which sees progressively larger multipliers as you move closer to the rightmost reel, is genuinely novel. That said, I don’t think there is enough here to keep me coming back. I give it a seven out of ten.If you’re looking for a few Kitsune slots that I do recommend, try out Evil Dozen and Bonnie’s Buccaneers.
