Is the Shippy D Pop Slot Just One Piece’s Slower Cousin?
If you’re not familiar, One Piece is about a rubber man with the metabolism of a black hole that assembles a pirate crew entirely composed of emotional support weirdos who decide the best way to process trauma is by punching god, the government, and occasionally a dragon.
A thousand episodes in, nobody has found the treasure, the main character still looks like he was drawn during a sugar rush, and every villain dresses like they lost a bet at a fetish convention.
The Shippy D Pop slot from AvatarUX may be one of the latest One Piece knockoffs I have ever seen. Now, since I’m a fan of One Piece, I am just glad to see it in slot form. But, I’m watching you, AvatarUX.
Welcome aboard
Shippy D Pop by AvatarUX features a five-reel layout with 486 ways to win. Betting ranges from $0.10 to $7 per spin. If you’re betting at the max, you’ll have a shot at up to $350,000 thanks to a massive max multiplier of 50,000x your bet.
With high volatility, the gameplay will lean toward limited, consistent small wins while you chase those rare big wins. The slot’s expected RTP is 96.1%.
Positioned above the main reels is an extra three-slot reel called the ZapReel. On every spin, it offers a new set of Feature Rewards that affect the symbols directly beneath them on the reels.
In the base game, these rewards can include multipliers of x2 or x3 that apply to any winning combinations below and to subsequent cascades in the same positions, with multiple multipliers combined multiplicatively.
The ZapReel can also produce a Split Symbol reward, which generates up to five identical symbols in the same position. An Expand Winning Symbol reward enlarges a symbol to fill the entire reel if that symbol forms part of a win. A Synced Reel reward links two adjacent reels so they display identical symbols, synchronising either to the left or to the right.
Free spins are triggered when all reels expand to a height of six symbols. The slot also offers a buy bonus option that can be used to purchase a round of free spins.
Once triggered, you will receive six free spins initially, with the option to gamble for up to 18 free spins using the Pirate Wheel. If the gamble fails, however, you forfeit your round of free spins entirely.
During a round of free spins, the grid begins at six symbols high, and any progress toward unlocking additional reel height carries over between spins. Instead of resetting fully, the grid only drops back to the shortest current reel height, which will remain above six. If all reels reach nine symbols high, you are awarded two extra free spins.
The ZapReel remains active throughout the feature and is always filled with three rewards on each spin. Multiplier values increase to x2, x3, x5, or x10, and these stack multiplicatively when more than one applies to the same win and subsequent cascades beneath the reward positions.
Other rewards are enhanced as well. The Split Symbol can create up to ten identical symbols in one position, while the Expand Winning Symbol continues to stretch a winning symbol across its entire reel.
The Synced Reel reward now links three adjacent reels, synchronising them left, right, or in both directions, with the bidirectional option available only after certain gamble outcomes or in Bonus Max mode. Synced reels can also combine with other ZapReel rewards, allowing multiple effects to apply simultaneously to the same area of the grid.
Does Shippy D Pop slot do One Piece justice?
The name Shippy D Pop is based on One Piece’s main protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. This was my intro to the game, and I was immediately suspicious about the laziness of the name. The slot itself did little to assuage that suspicion. While the illustration definitely takes its cues from One Piece, the colour is muted, and the reels are so small that the characters bring little personality to the gameplay. The weird speech bubble to the left of the reels is also an interesting choice.
If you are unfamiliar with the source material, however, that all will mean nothing to you. If you are that player, the slot offers a lot to like, including the ZapReel feature and a pretty incredible 50,000x max multiplier. For me, though, the Shippy D Pop slot gets a five out of ten.
