Preppers don’t just prepare for disasters, they romanticise them. To them, a societal collapse isn’t a tragedy, it’s a long-awaited opportunity to finally justify owning a crossbow and 200 tins of beans.

And if the world does collapse, sure, they’ll be thriving in a bunker eating freeze-dried lasagne… right up until they realise they spent ten grand preparing for the end of society but forgot to stock anything that doesn’t taste like mildly seasoned regret.

While most of us aren’t as militant as preppers, I think we all enjoy some good post-apocalyptic escapism. And, the latest entry into this genre is the Riot: Urban Wilds slot from Mascot.

Welcome to the wasteland

The Riot: Urban Wilds slot is very simple. It features a single row of three reels that can display a varying number of symbols per reel, resulting in the number of ways to win varying from spin to spin, from just one up to 243.

Betting on the slot starts at just $0.10 a spin and tops out at $50 a spin. If you’re betting at the maximum, hitting the 5,000x max multiplier will score you a $250,000 win.

The slot features medium volatility, giving the gameplay a balance between rare big wins and small, consistent wins. The Riot: Urban Wilds slot offers an RTP of 96.31%. 

Above the reels is the multiplier reel, which spins independently of the other reels. Any multiplier that lands will be applied to any winnings awarded on that spin.

Once you’ve scored a win, you can select to gamble your winnings for a shot at doubling them. During the gamble feature, you will need to select one of three face-down cards in the hopes that it will be of a higher value than the current face-up card. You can continue to gamble up to a maximum value of 1,000x your bet. However, if you lose one round, you lose everything.

Is the Riot: Urban Wilds slot prepped?

The Riot: Urban Wilds slot is the fifth instalment in Mascot’s Riot series. It is, however, something very different. The single-row slot format isn’t shared by any of the other instalments and, apart from maybe the Riot: Brutal Ski’s Revenges slot, the overall aesthetic is quite different too. So, if you’re looking for a sequel to Riot, this one will probably feel a little disconnected. That said, the single-row, variable ways-to-win format offers a lot of appeal in its simplicity. I give this one an eight out of ten.
