Fruit Story: Hold the Spin Slot Review

Four years might seem like a lengthy timespan to work on a single film, but that’s how long it took to create Pixar’s iconic Toy Story. But it was all worth it, considering the movie grossed $373 million on its initial release. In 1995. Goddamn!

But I attribute the studio's success to Steve Jobs buying Pixar in 1986. Because I’m unashamedly an Apple fanboy… except when it comes to their $3,500 VR headset but that’s only because I can’t afford one.

I’m going to jump on the GoFundMe bandwagon, just like many other shameless people have done. So if you score the €249,600 in Fruit Story: Hold the Spin slot from Gamzix, don’t forget about me. Mkay?

Gameplay

We have 5 reels with 40 paylines on this fruity but that’s not all – it boasts an RTP of 96% and a max win worth €249,600. Whoop whoop! Look, the max multiplier isn’t the greatest – it’s 5,200x – but it’s still decent by any standards.

The soundtrack is horrendous; I couldn’t endure even a few seconds, so consider yourself warned. Above the grid are the static Jackpots but I’ll dig into those a little later.

If you were wondering about the mobile-friendliness of Fruit Story: Hold the Spin slot, wonder no more: it’s just peachy. Landscape mode makes things easier because the grid is larger, but it’s easy enough to play in portrait mode because the symbols are super legible.

The star Scatter is only available in the base game but you’ll see it on all of the reels. Oh, and it pays in any position. The diamond Wild replaces all symbols except for the Scatter and Bonus Coins. This symbol is also only available in the base game.

Lastly, you can get fully stacked symbols covering a part of a reel or the whole damn thing. Stacked symbols can be made up of 2 to 6 symbols.

You will see Coins landing in the base game will values on em. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean you’ll be paid their worth – you’ll have to trigger the Bonus round for that.

Features

HOLD AND WIN BONUS ROUND:

The Bonus symbol is a gold Coin and you’ll need to hit 6 of these or more to trigger the Bonus Game. It’s your typical Hold and Win scenario where you get 3 re-spins at the start of the round.

Landed Coins will be sticky (newbies: it means they stay where they are when the reels spin) and each new Coin you land resets the spin count to 3.

As for your payout, that’s determined at the end of the round as each Coin carries a value. These will be added up and paid over to you right away.

STATIC JACKPOT:

There are 4 Jackpots in Fruit Story: Hold the Spin slot: bronze, silver, gold, and platinum, and each is represented by its own Coin. Landing any number of the first three Coins will pay out their corresponding Jackpot.

Fill all 20 positions during the Hold and Win round and you’ll be awarded the platinum Jackpot.

Something to watch out for is the Mystery symbol. This bad boy can turn into a bronze, silver, or gold Coin at any point when it lands during the Bonus round, and its value will be revealed once your spins have been depleted.

GAMBLE FEATURE:

It’s the usual fare; after a win, you’ll be given the option to gamble your earnings for even more moolah. If you accept, you’ll be taken to a screen with a face-up card (the dealer’s) and 4 face-down cards. Your job is to choose a card that’ll beat the dealer.

However, there’s no guarantee that the face-down cards will be higher in value because they are chosen randomly, so that’s another risk you’ll have to take.

Choose correctly and you’ll double your money (there seems to be no limit on how many times you can gamble) but if you lose even once, you lose everything you’ve gained in this round.

Performance

I threw hundreds of spins at Fruit Story: Hold the Spin slot and it gobbled them down and asked for more. I tried to throw a spanner in the works by swapping devices and browsers but that didn’t unsettle the game either.

Maximum Win

Fruit Story: Hold the Spin slot offers a pretty big betting spread – from €0.40 to €48. If you land the 5,200x max multiplier while betting at €48, you’ll walk away with €249,600 in your pocket. Not bad for a day’s work.

Conclusion

As far as fruit slots go, Fruit Story: Hold the Spin slot ain’t bad at all. The stats are solid and the Bonus round triggers fairly frequently.

There’s nothing we haven’t seen here before but that’s OK; many games offer the same features or mechanics. And if you’re into mobile play, this is a decent enough option.

So yeah, if fruit slots and Hold and Win Bonus rounds are your thing, then here’s a combo that’ll do the trick.
