Paper Lanterns Review

Have you ever had one of those days where you wake up and say to yourself: “I need a change. Things have become routine and there’s no joy in my life.” 😢

So you get all pumped up on motivational podcasts and march off to the supermarket to get something to eat – because you need fuel in the system to take on this new adventure, right?

But when you get there, they’ve swapped everything around and you can’t find shit. And that’s when you realize change is fine, as long as no one messes with your lunch. 🍔🍟

So what has this rambling got to do with Paper Lanterns from Mascot? Absolutely nothing, but if Jeremy Clarkson can babble on about some nonsense and then segue into his reviews, then so can I. 🤪

Gameplay

Paper Lanterns is a crash game set in a stunningly rendered Japanese garden scene that’s a little misty with cherry blossoms floating in the breeze. Sounds chilled and tranquil, doesn’t it?

Lining the bottom of the play area are 5 possible bets – you can place 1 to 5 bets at a time. If you click on the three balloons under the hamburger menu, you’ll see that this is where you can bet on all of em at once (and collect on all of the bets, too).

The idea is that when a bet is placed, the respective balloon takes flight. As it does so, the multiplier increases and you’ve got to collect your winnings before the balloon bursts.

As a result, Paper Lantern has no paylines, features, or reels. What it does offer is a medium volatility rate, an RTP of 96.03%, a stupendous 10,000x multiplier, and a top prize of €250,000.

Hit the arrow on the MY BETS box (also next to the hamburger menu) and you’ll see a list of all your bets, their respective multipliers, and the wins or losses.

It’s also possible to set the Autoplay function for any or all of the bets and instruct the game at which point you wanna collect.

Features

This game doesn’t have any features but here’s something kinda feature-ey. In addition to your coin bets, you can also be randomly gifted 1 to 5 free bets at any time.

This will happen while the winning rate is increasing and you’ll need to collect your winnings before the end of the draw.

You can even get additional free bets during your free bets. Sweet!

Performance

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole with this game and spent quite some time with it. At no point did I experience any glitches or issues, though.

Maximum Win

You can bet from the teeny tiny amount of €0.02 up to €25. If you land the 10,000x max multiplier at the largest bet, well then you guessed it: you’ll have won an earth-shaking €250,000.

Conclusion

I’m a fan of crash games and while I’ve seen some where you can have two bets running concurrently, I’ve never seen one like this where you can have 5 bets on the go. Add to this that you can set the Autoplay and Cash Out limits for each and you’re in for a treat!

Paper Lanterns is a glorious game to play on the go, as the format lends itself well to a mobile phone in portrait mode. Changing the settings under your bets is still easy to do.

Maybe the only thing to grumble about is that the BET ALL and COLLECT ALL buttons are right along the bottom of the phone screen and aren’t the easiest to use but it’s also not impossible. Flipping the phone to landscape mode fixes this.

So yeah, as far as crash games go, this is a goodie! And with a quarter of a million up for grabs from a medium volatility rate, what more could you ask for?
