Red Horde Slot Review

If you’re confused as to why there are goblins alongside farm animals and soldiers in Red Horde slot from Mascot, you’re not alone.

I thought I had early-onset Alzheimer’s, but it turns out the backstory is that the red goblin horde is attacking your village and you need to protect it and its occupants. The hint is that secrets are hidden in chests or trunks – whatever you wanna call them.

OK then, let’s beat the tar outta those red b*stards and scoop up as much dough as possible. Attaaaaaaack!

Gameplay

I’m loving how this slot looks. The massive 5x3-reel grid with its bold and beautifully rendered symbols makes it easy on the eye and a joy to play.

Having said that, Red Horde slot looks abysmal on a phone in portrait mode! Three-quarters of the screen is filled with background, and even though you can still make out the symbols on the small grid, it’s a terrible experience. Landscape mode is the better option.

Let’s see what Mascot Gaming has under the hood. For starters, there’s an RTP of 96.5%, and that’s coupled with a low volatility rate – haven’t seen one of those in a while.

The volatility rate means two things here: firstly, the max win ain’t phenomenal (its only €15,000). Secondly, it gives the game a 35.6% hit rate.

Hit rates are a measure of how frequently you’ll win a prize – of any kind – on a particular game. It’s considered good for a hit rate to hover around the 30% mark so Red Horde slot seems to be excelling in that regard.

Features

GROWING MODIFIERS:
Remember I mentioned trunks or chests? Each non-winning spin will open one of these to the right of the grid and reveal a game modifier.

It means that the cow, the knight, or the boy symbol can turn into Wilds or Stacked Wilds. You can also reveal multipliers of either 2x, 3x, or 5x. Any win deactivates the modifiers, as does changing the bet size so do be aware of that.

FREE SPINS:
The Scatter symbol is a blue gemstone pendant, and you’ll find it during the base game as well as in the Free Spins round. You’ll need to land 3 or more to qualify for the 10 Free Spins on offer.

When you trigger this round, you’ll also be awarded any multipliers that were active during the base game at the time of triggering. As a result, you can get up to 7 different types of Free Spins. And it’s possible to re-trigger Free Spins.

Performance

Red Horde slot was created using HTML5 technology and it worked a treat on my laptop (I was using Chrome). I played a few hundred rounds on my phone too, using Safari, and in both cases, it was smooth sailing.

Maximum Win

There’s only a 500x multiplier on this game and the max bet is just €30 (the smallest bet you can place is €0.15). That means your maximum win will be €15,000. It seems like protecting villages from rampaging goblins isn’t as lucrative as it should be.

Conclusion

I’d say that this game is suited to newbies and players who enjoy simple, low-volatility games. It’s all about Free Spins and modifiers, and you can rack up a bunch of each if lady Luck is on your side.
It’s a decent game and isn’t trying to be anything other than what it is. Low volatility and a decent hit rate for regular wins mean you’ll stay engaged – even if the features are threadbare. So, if this sounds like your kinda thing, then I say give it a whirl.
